AWB Request

Hi, don't know much about AWB. Could it be programmed to automatically go through Category:Orphaned articles from February 2009, which has about 9000 articles and remove the orphan tag, including from multiple issues templates, from articles that have at least one incoming link from a mainspace article including lists but not redirects or disambig pages, thanks Atlantic306 (talk) 14:06, 6 May 2018 (UTC)

Atlantic306, I do this periodically (about once/week) for articles with 3 or more incoming mainspace links excluding redirects. 1 is a very low bar that doesn't fulfill the spirit of WP:ORPHAN, that is, building the web. So I think a good compromise/first step is using 2 or more links and seeing what's left, based on WP:ORPHAN "Although a single, relevant incoming link is sufficient to remove the tag, three or more is ideal and will help ensure the article is reachable by readers.[1]", where [1] links to this discussion advocating for at least 1 incoming link.   ~ Tom.Reding (talkdgaf)  15:21, 6 May 2018 (UTC)
Preliminary stats: of the ~8900 pages currently in Category:Orphaned articles from February 2009, there are ~3000 with 1 or more incoming links, and only 83 with 2 or more.
I've notified Wikipedia talk:Orphan & Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Orphanage.   ~ Tom.Reding (talkdgaf)  16:29, 6 May 2018 (UTC)
    • thanks, so do you count disambig pages as a link? Atlantic306 (talk) 16:30, 6 May 2018 (UTC)
      • Disambiguation pages do not count for the purposes of de-orphaning. I don't know if there's a way to automatically exclude them from counting as incoming links, but if there isn't, I would suggest that this not be done. (To be perfectly honest I would suggest this not be done automatically anyway; many orphan-tagged articles are deletion-or-mergeworthy and should be checked out by humans to assess that.) ♠PMC(talk) 18:05, 6 May 2018 (UTC)
        • Thanks thats what I thought about disambig pages, automation would need to discount them, not sure if that is possible, id prefer to reduce the category to 6000 for checking but it needs consensus, thanks Atlantic306 (talk) 11:24, 7 May 2018 (UTC)
          • @Atlantic306 and Premeditated Chaos: I'm able to ignore pages with incoming DABs and SIAs via Category:All disambiguation pages and Category:All set index articles, which brings that ~3000 figure down to ~1500.   ~ Tom.Reding (talkdgaf)  13:50, 7 May 2018 (UTC)
            • Indexes generally count. All that being said, I still think it's not a great idea to do automatically; some of these articles have little other reason to be visible to humans and will survive as non-notable, promotional, or even copyvios for years to come without humans having a reason to check on them. ♠PMC(talk) 14:22, 7 May 2018 (UTC)
              • I want to +1 PMC's reservations on this, its better for someone to go through and delete poor articles from the olden days, or make serious attempts to figure out if they are worth putting in context, rather than machine removal -- otherwise they might drift unseen without any backlog catching them. Sadads (talk) 22:35, 1 June 2018 (UTC)
    • Thanks for your research Tom, and thats interesting that indexes count but there isn't agreement at this time for automation of the early deorphaning. Although perhaps it could be done from the other end starting with the most recent orphans and back a few years where the articles supposedly have been more reviewed, thanks Atlantic306 (talk) 20:16, 8 May 2018 (UTC)

AWB request

Hello, {{Infobox Muslim leader}} has to be merged into {{Infobox religious biography}} per the recent consensus. But that would require adding Islam as |religion= to all the pages using {{Infobox Muslim leader}}. Can anyone please help in the same? Capankajsmilyo(Talk | Infobox assistance) 02:20, 29 April 2018 (UTC) You can use Category:Pages using Infobox Muslim leader without religion parameter (0) for assistance. Capankajsmilyo(Talk | Infobox assistance) 02:26, 29 April 2018 (UTC)

AWB requests belong at Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Tasks. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:11, 29 April 2018 (UTC)
Capankajsmilyo, before I start doing this - let me get this straight. So, with {{Infobox Muslim leader}}, there is no religion parameter - because it is ALWAYS set to Islam. However, with {{Infobox religious biography}}, the religion parameter must be specified. What I don't quite get is, do you want me to replace all pages using {{Infobox Muslim leader}} with {{Infobox religious biography}} or do that later and just add the religion parameter for now? I'm asking this because you didn't specify in the request.--SkyGazer 512 What will you say? / What did I do? 13:18, 29 April 2018 (UTC)
That's not necessary though I'd prefer that. If theres no consensus required for it, go for it please. Otherwise, adding religion will be sufficient. Thanks. Capankajsmilyo(Talk | Infobox assistance) 14:11, 29 April 2018 (UTC)
A consensus would be required, but didn't the community come to a consensus here? I would assume that if the decision was to merge, then it would be okay to replace it with the new infobox template name. Are there any other parameters besides the religon that are present in one infobox but not the other?--SkyGazer 512 What will you say? / What did I do? 14:38, 29 April 2018 (UTC)
None that can delay the merger. Capankajsmilyo(Talk | Infobox assistance) 03:25, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
Details would probably be useful anyway. For example, if one has mosque= but the other has place_of_worship= then this could be changed at the same time. Certes (talk) 15:15, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
No such differences. Capankajsmilyo(Talk | Infobox assistance) 02:16, 2 May 2018 (UTC)

It's been a long time. Is anyone working on this? Thanks Capankajsmilyo(Talk | Infobox assistance) 03:37, 16 May 2018 (UTC)

@Certes, IVORK, PrimeHunter, and SkyGazer 512:? Capankajsmilyo(Talk | Infobox assistance) 02:06, 3 June 2018 (UTC)

Sorry for the late reply - I've kind of been busy with other things (mostly editing other wikis =)) and completely forgot about this.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 02:09, 3 June 2018 (UTC)

Thanks; good catch! I see that you've found and fixed several typos such as Lieutenatn, lieutennat and lieutennat lietuenant and Luietenant. AWB could fix them but it might be hard to do a search for such a variety of spellings. I'll alert the typo team. They already have a fix for some misspellings of Lieutenant and may be able to add your findings to the pattern. Certes (talk) 11:07, 6 August 2018 (UTC)

Replace mention of MiszaBots in Template:Auto archiving notice and other similar templates with lowercase sigmabot III

I'd like somebody with AWB or a bot to go through the pages tagged with {{Auto archiving notice}} (and perhaps its redirects) above their first header and replace "MiszaBot I", MiszaBot II", and "MiszaBot III" with Lowercase sigmabot III. the MiszaBots are so 2013 and lowercase sigmabot III is the current replacement for them. Such a process shouldn't edit beyond the first heading to prevent cases like this. Thanks! Graham87 09:01, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

And I've just realised that {{archives}} and {{archive box}} have a bot parameter. Hmmm. I think {{User:MiszaBot/config}} is one thing, but having names of unused bots prominently displayed on talk pages doesn't give off a good impression. Graham87 09:21, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

Fixing dates in Old prod templates

Can someone go through Template:Old prod/Pages with malformed date and fix the |nomdate= parameter so that it's in a form acceptable to the #time parser function? Most of the time, it's junk markup that would need to removed from the nomdate field. Occasionally, dates of the form "2000 January 1" may need to be converted to some other date-format since that particular format isn't accepted by #time for whatever reason. This would facilitate improvements in the {{Old prod}} template, described here. SD0001 (talk) 03:08, 3 January 2019 (UTC)

@SD0001: I've started going through these but have a couple of questions.
  1. The main cause seems to be a left-to-right mark at the end of the date, which #time doesn't handle. Removing this invisible character fixes things. I can continue to remove them, but it looks as if some tool[a] is adding them automatically. Example (fixed): Talk:Ace Cafe. Do we need to do something to prevent future occurrences, such as fixing a tool (which one?) or having {{Old prod}} strip out that character before passing the string to #time? If the latter, is it worth bothering to fix existing problems?
  2. Several pages such as Talk:Africa Theological Journal use dates complicated with HTML tags or template syntax. What should be done here?
[a] "tool" in the sense of "automated editing gadget" rather than "unhelpful person", I hope!
Certes (talk) 11:37, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
@Certes: Thanks for working on this. Really a strange character, that! This template is always added manually, there are no tools for adding it. But you an interesting suggestion - do you know how to strip out the character from the template code? I guess Module:String could be used but am not sure how. Regarding #2, just remove 'em, leaving only the raw date if present. They are caused due to accidental substitution of {{ISO date}} (back in the days when that template wasn't subst-proof). BTW no need to do anything about condate and declinedate fields, if they are additional trouble - only the nomdate needs to purified. SD0001 (talk) 13:59, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
Something like {{#invoke:String|replace|{{{nomdate}}}|‎}} should work. There is an invisible left-to-right marker after the final |, which I don't like because it will confuse people and get edited out at some point. In theory we should be able to use a visible Lua pattern such as \226\128\142 but I can't get that to work in practice, even setting plain_flag to 0. Certes (talk) 14:24, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
Mostly  Done. I've fixed the obvious date format errors. If I missed a few then they should be easily mended once the change has been made and we have an error list. Certes (talk) 16:48, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
@Certes: It looks as if all timestamps in page history end with the left-to-right marker. So people who copy the date from there would inadvertently leave this character behind. I've incorporated your fix into the template, with a hidden comment to hopefully prevent people from editing it out. SD0001 (talk) 12:18, 6 January 2019 (UTC)
Thank you. I've accidentally introduced invisible characters in other contexts after copying (in the Ctrl-C sense) from Wikipedia, for example pasting names from the subcategory tree when diffusing a category, so they do appear on some report pages. They're also difficult to search for: I don't know a way to reliably find them all. The best solution would be if #time ignored them; next best is what you've done. Add short descriptions

Could someone add

{{short description|local government building in the United States}}

Requesting mass change of links

Hi, I've been working on the Unisound and Unisound Studios pages and currently, albums produced by Unisound Studios link to the Unisound page incorrectly.

Based on Special:WhatLinksHere every page except the following should change from Unisound --> Unisound Studios.

The only ones that link correctly are:

Thanks, Redwards21 (talk) 09:57, 21 January 2019 (UTC)

We may want to wait for the AfD to close before doing that. If it survives then it should probably be renamed to something like Unisound (studio). There may also be a case for making Unisound a dab rather than parachuting a new primary topic onto an existing title. Certes (talk) 12:26, 21 January 2019 (UTC)
Update: Unisound now redirects to Unisound Studios and the voice AI company has moved to Draft:Unisound, but this may change. Except from List of unicorn startup companies, links currently lead to the right article, so it's probably best to leave them until the dust settles. There are also a few dud links to Unisound Records. Certes (talk) 23:14, 21 January 2019 (UTC)
Further update: both company articles have now been removed from mainspace. Unisound, Unisound Studios and Unisound Records now redirect to Dan Swanö. That's probably the best target for all of the wikilinks except the one in List of unicorn startup companies, which I've unlinked. Job done, until Draft:Unisound gets moved into mainspace. Certes (talk) 02:46, 29 January 2019 (UTC)
Thanks, I have made a Technical request regarding moving Draft:Unisound into mainspace. Redwards21 (talk) 08:18, 29 January 2019 (UTC)
I don't think that was an "uncontroversial technical request", as the page has not changed since it was moved to draft as "not ready" last week. The draft has now moved into mainspace but it may be best to wait before changing the links in case it moves back. There is also the issue of deciding the best title, as Wikipedia has information on another topic (the recording studio) which is also called Unisound. Certes (talk) 11:05, 29 January 2019 (UTC)
My understanding was it got moved to draft because of the disambiguation issue hence the technical request to move it back after the AfD. Thanks for helping me work through all this, I've requested a peer review of the article :) Redwards21 (talk) 10:29, 31 January 2019 (UTC)
Done I've changed the links. Certes (talk) 11:21, 31 January 2019 (UTC)

Creating discussion pages a year ahead

Can AWB be used to create CfD pages a year ahead? I created this one manually but I am guessing there should be more efficient ways. The pages used to be created by User:ProveIt who built a special tool for it, but it seems they are currently not active. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:15, 5 February 2019 (UTC)

AnomieBOT should create logs as part of the CFDClerk task. Based on the other clerk tasks, I would guess that it would occur about an hour before it is needed. — JJMC89(T·C) 07:35, 5 February 2019 (UTC)

Fix Wall Street Journal links

Could somebody change Wall Streett Journal links in the form https://www.wsj.com/news/articles/... to https://www.wsj.com/articles/...? There are 1109 of them in all namespaces, but probably only links in the main namespace (and perhaps the draft namespace) need to be fixed. Thanks! Graham87 14:36, 3 January 2019 (UTC)

Also, relevant archive links (e.g. from the Wayback Machine) will probably have to be taken into account or removed. Graham87 14:45, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
@Graham87: just to confirm, it's just the removal of the /news/ structure in the address? I tally 1,080 in the mainspace, insofar as Wayback, I'll queue up IABot after the AWB run. Ping me in your reply and I'll get going! Best, SITH (talk) 20:39, 12 January 2019 (UTC)
@StraussInTheHouse: Thanks very much! Yes, that's correct. Graham87 01:42, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
@Graham87: My bot can also handle this task if you would like. I have time so I can open another BRFA to fix all these links. Pkbwcgs (talk) 11:50, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
@Pkbwcgs: Sure, that sounds good too. I don't mind who fixes the links, just as long as they're fixed. If your bot would be easier, then go ahead if you like. Graham87 11:59, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
@Graham87: BRFA filed. Pkbwcgs (talk) 13:10, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
Pkbwcgs and Graham87, sorry, I went on a wikibreak, FWIW a bot would probably be easier if the framework is already there. SITH (talk) 17:52, 8 February 2019 (UTC)

List of suspect typos

Hi guys, I made a list of suspect typos: User:Uziel302/sandbox

Based on the idea that many typos are a result of double letter, missing letter and switched letter, I took a list of 3000 popular words and made all the doubling, removing and switching possible, then searched for the results on part of Wikipedia I downloaded from dumps.

Words like amd (that should be and) maintennance (maintenance) forrest (Forrest/forest) programm (programme/program) etc. ordered by occurrence in checked part of Wikipedia.

Am I in the right place to ask for help correcting those typos?

Should I make adjustments to the list to be more useful? Uziel302 (talk) 23:24, 13 December 2018 (UTC)

@Uziel302: Hi and thanks for the useful list. The WP:Typo Team do good work fixing spellings. AWB can also mend typos whilst it is doing other work, and WT:AutoWikiBrowser/Typos is a good place to discuss adding common errors. Hope that helps, Certes (talk) 01:38, 14 December 2018 (UTC)
Beware that a few spellings on your list may be legitimate. For example, a search for wwe (eliminating capital WWE, wrestling articles, wwe.com and click.here/for-wwe-news type URLs) doesn't show any obvious errors. But I'm sure there are still lots of genuine problems in there waiting to be fixed. Certes (talk) 01:51, 14 December 2018 (UTC)
Certes, the list is done automatically and many of the reccurring strings appear a lot for a reason. But there are many real typos too and the list can help find them.Uziel302 (talk) 09:18, 14 December 2018 (UTC)
Certes, since the context is crucial to judge whether it's a typo or not, I added some context to the list.Uziel302 (talk) 20:15, 14 December 2018 (UTC)
Yes, context is crucial. The main false positives are foreign words, proper nouns and initialisms. I'd say about 10% of that list are typos, which is still a significant improvement to Wikipedia (as long as we identify the right 10%!) Can you limit the search to mainspace text displayed in articles? It looks as if there is other stuff in there: some of the excerpts read like talk page chat, and entries such as "contol" seem to be edit summaries. Then we may have a useful input for the typo teams but they will still need manual checking. For example, your section for aand looks like six typos for and and one piece of correct Afrikaans. Certes (talk) 22:06, 14 December 2018 (UTC)
Certes, thanks a lot for your feedback. I updated the list to test new settings so it's not a complete list. I narrowed the search for words longer than 3 characters to ignore most initialisms. I limited the search to mainspace text, without edit summaries. Of course correcting typos requires manual checking, but in many cases you can see from the context it is plain English typo and go ahead to fix it.Uziel302 (talk) 08:57, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing these. It's comforting that all of the very few entries with 5+ occurrences look like false positives so, whilst it's a very useful one-off exercise, I don't think we need add any to the automated fix list. Certes (talk) 19:13, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
Certes, I did fix all hundreds of occurrences of "collpase" and haven't found any false positive, how do I add it to automated fix list? Uziel302 (talk) 19:58, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
A good way is to amend the entry for Collapse in Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Typos. An expert such as Smasongarrison‎ may be able to help with writing an efficient regex. Certes (talk) 20:26, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
Added regex by myself.Uziel302 (talk) 12:11, 17 December 2018 (UTC)
@Uziel302: If you want to post an updated list, I'm happy to help work through it. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 19:29, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
GoingBatty, I started working on this list: User:Uziel302/AWB list, you are welcome to join. Most frequent issues are capitalization issues, you can scroll down to find more obvious errors. Thanks. Uziel302 (talk) 09:27, 12 January 2019 (UTC)
GoingBatty, just removed capitalization issues from the list. Any feedback much appreciated. Uziel302 (talk) 21:52, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
@Uziel302: Looks like there are still capitalization issues on the list (e.g. espn, worldcat, itunes, wordpress, pubmed, ncaa) GoingBatty (talk) 21:57, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
@Uziel302: I added a new WP:AWB/T rule to change "sqaud" to "squad" and fixed over 32 articles. GoingBatty (talk) 02:18, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
@Uziel302: Other comments:
  • I cleaned up "whoe" as well - some to "who" and some to "whose". However, many instances are articles quoting older text where this isn't a misspelling.
  • I expanded the WP:AWB/T "Article" rule to also fix "artciles", and I fixed those.
  • There is already a rule to change "burried" to "buried", and I fixed those. GoingBatty (talk) 03:17, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
GoingBatty, thank you very much for your great work. I removed the capitalization issues using Wiktionary list of words and just capitalized first letter and checked if it's there, I understand it doesn't filter all the issues. Is there a reason capitalization issues aren't treated in AWB typo project? Is there a rule of how frequent the typo should be to be added to WP:AWB/T? Thanks again, Uziel302 (talk) 06:28, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
@Uziel302: See Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Typos#Capitalisation and Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Typos#New capitalisation for lots of capitalization rules. There's isn't a rule of how frequent the typo should be to be added, but several discussions about it on the talk page. GoingBatty (talk) 02:03, 15 January 2019 (UTC)
@Uziel302: More work today:
  • Added new rule to change "helding" to "holding" and fixed those.
  • Changed "(Ad/E/Inter/O/…)Mission" to also fix "misson" and fixed those. GoingBatty (talk) 04:06, 16 January 2019 (UTC)

  • Added new rule to change "propsect/propser" to "prospect/prosper", and fixed various tenses. GoingBatty (talk) 05:22, 24 January 2019 (UTC)
@Uziel302: In today's episode:
  • Added new rule to change "enterpreneur" to "entrepreneur", and fixed various tenses.
  • Added new rule to change "prosecuter" to "prosecutor", and fixed various tenses. GoingBatty (talk) 19:56, 26 January 2019 (UTC)
@Uziel302: One more: Added new rule to change "sherriff" to "sheriff", and fixed both singular and plural. GoingBatty (talk) 06:05, 27 January 2019 (UTC)

@Uziel302: - Feedback added to User:Uziel302/AWB cleanup. I'll start working on that list. GoingBatty (talk) 14:25, 16 February 2019 (UTC)
@GoingBatty: I see you added  Already done to many list items, as I have. What I meant by  Already done is that AWB already fixes those typos, but this doesn't appear to be the case for your tags. Perhaps we need to distinguish them to avoid confusion.   ~ Tom.Reding (talkdgaf)  15:21, 16 February 2019 (UTC)
@Tom.Reding: I quickly changed all mine from  Already done to  Done, but that might not be right either. Guess we need to define what the goal is here. I was indicating which typos I had run through AWB and did my best to clean up each article. GoingBatty (talk) 15:34, 16 February 2019 (UTC)
To be less ambiguous, I also changed my instances of  Already done to  AWB typo.   ~ Tom.Reding (talkdgaf)  16:40, 16 February 2019 (UTC)

Goal of the suspected typo list

I thought the goal of this was to determine which typos were suitable for inclusion in AWB. If a particular typo is 1) unambiguous/doesn't produce false positives, 2) is found in the wild several times, and 3) there's already an exiting rule that can get tweaked to include the listed typo, then it should definitely be included in AWB. Whether or not to create a new rule (still assuming no ambiguities, FPs, etc.) I'd leave to the discretion of the evaluator, but I would tend to lean towards creation, unless it was very implausible. What has everyone else been doing?   ~ Tom.Reding (talkdgaf)  16:40, 16 February 2019 (UTC)

I've been working through the top of User:Uziel302/AWB cleanup (non-words occurring 30+ times), fixing articles where feasible and marking those fixes which I think should be considered for AWB. Certes (talk) 00:43, 17 February 2019 (UTC)

Let's use the typo lists for tracking as well?

This is clearly going to take a while, and I think editors (myself included) will be more willing to work on this knowing they won't first have to sort out what has/n't been done. Uziel302, would you mind if these pages be used as a project page of sorts, so that we can all easily see what has been and needs to get done? This has worked well in the past for large to-do lists, for example here & here.   ~ Tom.Reding (talkdgaf)  03:37, 19 January 2019 (UTC)

Tom.Reding, thanks for your offer, I created a shortlist of typos appearing at least 10 times, and updated the items User:GoingBatty done. Everyone is welcome to work on it and add a note on what's done.Uziel302 (talk) 07:58, 19 January 2019 (UTC)
I've had a quick look and marked a few of the top offenders as false positives. Next on the list is womens. My search times out after 12,000 of those, mainly in URLs (smith-wins-womens-final.html) and I'm not sure how to filter this down to the 87 needing attention. Certes (talk) 15:50, 19 January 2019 (UTC)
Certes, thanks a lot for your help. It makes sense the list contains false positives, many words don't appear on Wiktionary. Please add spaces when the query has false positive as part of other words/urls. You can search insource:/ womens / and after you find out its OK in template (Template:Infobox athletic conference) narrow it down like this: insource:/[^\|] womens / Thanks again. Uziel302 (talk) 16:22, 19 January 2019 (UTC)
I've worked through womens. I don't think that fix should be automated: there are a lot of quotes and titles (Gloucestershire County Womens Football League) to leave alone and, whilst most errors are possessive (womens → women's or womens' → women's), some are simple plurals (womens → women). Certes (talk) 18:46, 19 January 2019 (UTC)

Level-1 sections in Talk pages

Talk page sections should be Level-2 ( == vs. = ). Occasionally someone makes a typo and creates a Level-1 section. This causes subsequent Level-2 sections to be 'children' of a higher-up Level-1 section. The below list are talk pages that have Level-1's that (probably) want conversion to Level-2. OR convert the Level-1 to a Level-2 and any legit sub-sections to Level-3. -- GreenC 03:18, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

Removal of all 3 informal references to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Hello there! The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has formally requested that all references to the Mormon Church, LDS Church, and Mormonism be discontinued by all users in all media outlets including Wikipedia. It would be astronomically easier to make this change via AWB rather than manually search out and make every single change.

This request is complicated by two items: (1) no formal replacement for these 3 informal references has been provided by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which will affect how the AWB algorithm needs to work; (2) the name of a volume of this church's scripture is 'The Book of Mormon', and eliminating all references to the 'Mormon Church' or 'Mormonism' without editing all references to 'The Book of Mormon' may be difficult for AWB.

I'm not an AWB user. Would someone please help me address this?

--Dpammma (talk) 07:32, 10 March 2019 (UTC)

I replied to Dpamma at WP:BOTREQ, but for any other AWB users watching this page, be aware of the current discussion at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Latter Day Saints#changes based on recent style request from LDS Church? and that the current consensus does not support such a change --DannyS712 (talk) 07:40, 10 March 2019 (UTC)

Check all members of a category

Category:Mythological Greek characters has been proposed for merger with Category:Characters in Greek mythology, and I'm confident it will happen, as the concepts almost completely overlap. However, the Aeneid is a Roman myth that has a number of unique Greek characters, e.g. Entellus, and such characters would fit in "Mythological Greek characters" but not "Characters in Greek mythology". Could someone go through each article in the "Mythological Greek characters", find the articles with strings aene or virgil (case-insensitive, of course), and dump a list of positives onto the category talk page? No other edits should be made, particularly as a number of articles about characters from Greek mythology will mention their appearances in the Aeneid; the point is to provide a list of articles for human review. Articles with no talk page

Could a hidden category be created to include all articles that are missing their corresponding talk pages? That is excluding redirects and disambiguation pages. Category:Articles with no talk pape --- Coffeeandcrumbs 14:44, 18 April 2019 (UTC)

@Coffeeandcrumbs: creating such a widespread category should probably be done by a bot, but has there been any discussion of this? --DannyS712 (talk) 18:42, 18 April 2019 (UTC)
@DannyS712: Not yet. I agree this needs discussion first. Can you tell how many articles currently meet the criterion? Is it 100? 1,000? 10,000? or 100,000+?
  • In the absence of an RFC with an overwhelming consensus that it would be desirable (which is vanishingly unlikely to happen), I'll instantly block anyone I see trying this, to prevent further disruption. Such a category would be a honeypot for good-faith newbies who would try to "fix" the pages in question by creating talkpages, which in turn would have to be deleted, wasting everyone's time and potentially discouraging all those new editors who thought they were being helpful. ‑ Iridescent 18:49, 18 April 2019 (UTC)
Easy, I was not planning on mass creation of talk pages using a bot. Ok, no category. I just need a list for myself. I was interested in see how many pages currently lack any WikiProject classification? Iridescent, are you against someone going one by one and creating a proper talk page with WikiProject templates? @DannyS712: Nice, I am finetuning it some more. This version excludes a lot more pages that probably don't need a WikiProject template anyway. What is left is a lot stubs (many of them not tagged as stubs and even worse also untagged orphans). A lot of pages just lost in the database.--- Coffeeandcrumbs 08:19, 19 April 2019 (UTC)

After parsing the first 7500 articles, I have a list, User:DannyS712/sandbox#Circular, of 253 articles that would be edited. Extrapolating to the total size of the category, which currently has 71,524 pages, there are around 2412 pages that are labeled as "per WP:CIRCULAR" that should be edited (doesn't account for "reason = ", "reason= ", "reason =", or other variations of spacing). I don't think it should be done manually --DannyS712 (talk) 19:26, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
Agreed, DannyS712. The problem was, after all, introduced by a bot, so it's certainly large enough for one to fix it. – Finnusertop (talk ⋅ contribs) 19:28, 16 May 2019 (UTC)

We should probably confirm that each individual affiliate school is sufficiently notable to merit a page before going ahead. Certes (talk) 09:50, 2 June 2019 (UTC)

Mass page move

Special:Permalink/900852816#Requested move 26 May 2019 has been closed with consensus to move Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Redirects to Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Redirects and categories. However, Anthony Appleyard says The page has 145 subpages, which is so many that I tried 3 times to obey the move request and every time the page move system jammed. Could someone move the subpages in batches? Anthony's an admin and has tried to use the "Move subpages (up to 100)" option, so I think you'll have to move subpages individually, whether 45 of them or all 145. Tagging for CFD (2)

Would someone be willing to add a tag the each of the categories listed in this discussion by means of AWB? I have already tagged the first one, Category:Companies_established_in_the_1st_millennium. Thanks in advance for helping out. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:28, 15 June 2019 (UTC)

Spellcheck

Hi, I just went through the search results for "translated form" and fixed fourteen of them that were typos for "translated from". Could someone go through "translation form" and other variants? Please be careful, since "form" can be right, e.g. "___ in the original, or ___ in translated form". Nyttend (talk) 11:38, 18 June 2019 (UTC)
