April Fools Day 2024 marked the twenty-first year that the holiday was celebrated on Wikipedia.[a] Wikipedia editors made nearly 250 joke AfD nominations; Operation Radiance alone resulted in the creation of fourteen color themed AfDs and twenty-one AfDs about 2004-2024 Internet phenomena. Due to the vast number of joke AfD nominations, the April Fool's Day deletion log had to be split in two.

From April 2-4, Wikipedians who participated in the festivities held an informal vote to determine the best jokes of 2024. In addition to the by-now standard best joke AfD question, this year's poll included two new questions regarding the best non-AfD joke and the best prankster. The winner of the three categories are as follows:

User page pranks[edit]

A typical platform sign on Metra, located on Flossmoor station
  • In most nominations, AlphaBeta135's signature resembled a Metra platform sign: AlphaBeta135 talk
  • Lovable98158's userpage was slammed by two whales and a trout, and the font was changed to webdings.
  • Melecie's userpage was put under a premium subscription.
  • Misc Practice put the lyrics of The Ballad of the Sneak as a marqueed scroll, rotated his user page and skewed his userboxes.
  • Planetberaure rotated his userpage 5 degrees because he was feeling a bit tilted.
  • The storm of Silver the Hedgehogs returned to User:PrincessPandaWiki and User talk:PrincessPandaWiki and replaced the Whisper the Wolf symbol there because she didn't have time to come up with a new userpage prank.
  • Turns out AlphaBetaGamma's claims of being a Japanese was a lie! He was proud Michigan resident all along!
    • It is unconfirmed whether he was helping Jim Harbaugh's surveillance empire before his suspension.
  • Thebiguglyalien reveals his true intentions in editing Wikipedia as an extraterrestrial.
  • Wesoree's userpage was invaded by penguins.
    • He later parked his ES44AC locomotive to stop the penguins from advancing further.
  • Wesoree's sandbox was filled with sand.
  • ~eltaday eplacedray eirthay userpageway's exttay ithway Igpay Atinlay. (translation: ~delta replaced their userpage's text with Pig Latin.)
  • That Tired Tarantula's user page exploded and was raccoon and Comic Sans-ified.
  • Ryanisgreat4444's opening part of his user page was covered in white.
    • The following day, 8 easter eggs were scattered on his userpage and his sandbox. They contain facts about his involvement in this year's event. Can you find them all?
  • Mod creator has lots of things to read about, and was Tl;dr so there's nothing :)
  • HistoryTheorist got April Fool'd
  • Disoneiscool8745 ich bin nach Deutchland gegangen und spreche jetzt Deutch (Translation: Disoneiscool8745 went to Germany and now speaks German).
  • Azeem1Hadzrie joined the April Fools' day thing again, replacing almost all the text shown with a gullible message about looking for life.
  • Simpleist's talk page was blown up all the way to Sunday.
  • WhoAteMyButter's death ray isn't working.
  • LilianaUwU switched her header picture to an obviously superior bus.
  • Toadette replaced all content from their userpage and replaced to two trouts and an emergency user slap (in case Toadette gets out of control....). Soon, they will disrupt this page with a single key soon...........................
  • Xeroctic revealed himself to be a brachyphage.
  • Qadri223 was sarcastic, thought to have depression, bipolar disorder, and probably, the schizophrenia. He quoted that "[he] loves Revival", although it is critically panned. Maybe he has the point.
  • TidalTreka's userpage was corrupted by ransomware.
  • MemeGod27's userpage was g̵̩̿͐i̴̢̘̎b̵̫̈́̕b̸̨͆e̴̛̞̗͘r̴͔̦̆̉ȉ̸̝̿s̵͖̋̑h̸̝̆̊ified. His PC exploded upon opening his page.
  • QuicoleJR's userpage was set on fire. So was his talk page.
Both were later extinguished by Sebbers10, with the side effect of flooding them.
The flood on the talk page was taken care of, but the water caught on fire on the user page.
  • NasssaNser used unique per-page signatures when participating in deletion discussions.
  • TheTechie left a special message on some user talk pages...
    • ...and they received an appropriate special message for themself.
  • Ipatrol's user page got destroyed by the cabal (permalink). And then the same happened to Ivyclaw33 (permalink). Then to Jimbo Wales, of all people (permalink).
UPDATE: After April Fools jokes on Jimbo's user page got reverted several times, "offending" users were warned with an oddly similar warning template... (1 2)

  • The Criteria for speedy deletion is itself nominated for speedy deletion because inclusionism is the superior philosophy and nothing should ever be deleted from Wikipedia.
  • As if the CSD page didn't get enough, the nutshell section on that page got changed to "Criteria of Speedy Deletion"...very explanatory.
  • WP:SPEEDY was changed to point to Porsche 911. Well, it is a speedy car. Also, WP:101 was changed to point to US 101, and WP:SLOW was changed to point to snail because, well, I guess snails ARE slow. And that's not it: WP:HAHA was changed to point to WP:HAHA, thereby creating an infinite redirect. Well, I guess that is a funny redirect.
    • WP:SPEEDY is now a defendant in a criminal traffic citation per the above statements. [where?]
  • Wikipedia:MAIN_PAGE was created which is a mirror of the Wikipedia homepage from some time in 2002. (Archived version)

  • A nomination for the Russian language was sent to MFD.
  • This year's Earth nomination was sent to MFD due to it being too repetitive annually.

  • Several joke nominations like Twitter (4th nomination) were speedy-deleted for unknown reasons other than "unfunny fools created by [long-term abuser]."

Sandbox[edit]

A certain hedgehog master turned the sandbox into sand.

"Mr. Administrator, Manual of Style is not an actual person, Manual of Style is the Cabal's policy!"

Notes[edit]

  1. ^ Starting with and including April Fools' Day 2004
  2. ^ The actual vote said "Jimbo Wales" but since this is not the name of the article, instead his username, it was deduced that the voter meant to say "Jimmy Wales."
