Cannabis Ruderalis

As a result of last year's chaos, new rules were passed prohibiting edit warring on the April Fools Day page; the page was also locked down in mid-March through April 4, meaning only experienced Wikipedians could edit it. Due to these changes, 2021 was much calmer than previous years. However, in the absence of the Great Edit War, Wikipedians played pranks in other mediums. Most notably, there were well over a hundred joke deletion nominations.

As a result of this record number of joke nominations, a consensus was reached to move April Fools' joke nominations onto a separate log page.

Wikipedians participating in the April Fools Day festivities also held an informal poll from the end of the 1st through the 7th to determine the best Articles for Deletion nomination. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ever Given, nominated by Narutolovehinata5 and with major contributions by Aseleste and Panini!, came in first place with eleven votes. More detailed results can be viewed here.

Joke nominations for Robinhood (company) and Mike Soroka were also written, but they were later courtesy blanked.

User page pranks[edit]

  • Spirit of Eagle's user-page was tilted to commemorate April Fools Day
  • Arccosecant's userboxes started bouncing around all over the page.
  • Disoneiscool8745's page was rotated 153 degrees.
    • And now the user's page is now skewed to the right and has changed to symbols. It has also been graced with several slappings of Trouts and a smashing by a whale (which all of those got deepfried) and has been stink bombed.
      • Now it got converted to Wingdings and added the "Whales" bullet.
        • And Disoneiscool8745 has changed it back to symbols, with the Whales bullet gone.
          • The Whales bullet was replaced with "Get your daily fix", which was linked to a rickroll, then was changed to a baby shark livestream.
  • In return, Lovable98158's page was rotated 273 degrees.
    • Later, on the same page, a bullet that read "Whales" was listed, but linking a livestream of "Baby Shark".
      • Which was later changed to Bread, linked to Duckroll.
        • Then changed to Rock, linked to the aforementioned Baby Shark livestream.
          • Then the link changed to the Narwhal song, while still saying rock.
            • The rock link now has summoned the almighty Whale and has smashed User:Lovable98158's page.
              • Then it became whale meat and was removed thereafter.
                • Then the rock link was rebranded as cool, but linked to the TV short "Operation: Cool Quest" from "Baby Shark's Big Show"
                  • Shortly, the word was changed to clue, but linking the Detective short from the same show, not the actual Clue
                    • Just under 5 minutes before the end, the link was changed to countdown, but linking “No time for timeouts” from “Baby Shark’s Big Show”.
  • Pythoncoder did some stuff to his userpage.
  • Panini!'s userpage was changed to that of the Sanskrit grammarian.
  • User:Billionnine filled his own user article with kek, a hard to read april fools, and the first five letters of the russian alphabet.
  • JalenFolf's userpage was translated to Greek.
    • It was reverted before the day was over.
  • User:TuxStrikesBack lists some "proclamations" in the style of "The Big Furry Hat" segment on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
  • User:Cindercat's userpage was rotated 69 degrees.
  • User:Tanker4390's userpage was replaced with the Sans Movie script.
  • ActuallyNeverHappened02's userpage and The Wikipedian Constitution were both translated into French. (Well, not the userboxes, dang it!)
    • Then someone translated it into Russian.
    • Then he makes a very impassioned plea to vandalize the linked page.
      • Then he decides "actually, maybe not".
        • Then someone turns it into CYKA BLYAT.
          • Then that same person turns it into that USSR version of YMCA.
  • JJPMaster did this to their userpage
  • User:TenPoundHammer's talk page was briefly redirected to "Never Gonna Give You Up".
    • It was reverted several hours later because "talk pages are an important communication tool".
  • LightningComplexFire deliberately turned their userpage into patent nonsense.
  • Nhoj609 changed his userpage to read "Fuck Maroon 5" and "All my homies hate Maroon 5", with a giant photo of the band sandwiched between both sentences.
  • Lovable98158 is asking if his foolery package has arrived.
  • User:Awesome Aasim's talk page was turned upside down.
  • NASCARfan0548 turned several userpages upside down.
  • User:OcelotCreeper's user-page was rotated 4.20 degrees, to commemorate the Great April Fools' Day Edit War of 2020.
    • The page was then rotated to 0.420 degrees.
      • However, OcelotCreeper, being on vacation, was completely oblivious to the prank until he came back.

My Wife's Lovers: the Picture of the Day
  • Here is an archive of the Main Page as it appeared on this day.
  • Groundhog Day (film) is the TFA, with a repeating blurb and recently featured section featuring itself.
  • My Wife's Lovers, a painting of forty-two cats, is the Picture of the Day.
  • DYK has the usual assortment of joke entries, with the hooks for Cthulhu for President receiving the most views out of all of the leads and the hook for Rio de Flag receiving the most views for a non-lead hook.

Reception off of Wikipedia[edit]

Social media reaction to the April Fools' Main Page was positive, with several people on Twitter calling it one of the only good April Fools' jokes this year.[1]
