Ray Chi article deletion

Hi, I wrote the article on Ray Chi that you recently deleted. I did not have computer access for a few days and didn't get the message until today. I could have easily sited or referenced various items in the article and wish I would have had more time to do so. Is there any way to get the article back? I was actually going to add to it soon because he's done more work lately that would make him even more noteworthy than he already is. Shatner1 21:17, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Vote at CfD

Hello. I think you have used sound reasoning in saying that some of the generation categories should be deleted and some not - I agree this could be beneficial. However, I was wondering if you would alter your vote to say that the "Wikipedians in their XXs" should be kept and the "Generation XYZ" should be deleted. I say this for two reasons (A) which generation one considers him/herself is POV, and there is even conflict among sociologists about which Generation should be called what and at what ages; (2) The "Wikipedians in their XXs" is not POV and editors are added and updated automatically if they use one of several user age templates, thus requiring less maintenance. I would imagine that these have a stronger chance of surviving and actually being useful in the future. Depending on what you decide, you can change your vote here.--Esprit15d (talk ¤ contribs) 15:08, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Due to the way the SQL query works, it should work more efficiently for a user that has edited sooner. Although this may cause slightly higher edit rates (the query is the bottleneck I am using for timing) it should stay within the limit and it should update happily. Also, to encourage participation/awareness, I have posted a message on WP:VP/M. Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 00:34, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Also, if you have any quotes in particular that you think best qualify your point, either published on-wiki, or sent to me via e-mail, I'd appreciate them. Your deletion of Chaim Dov Keller article

Hello Xaosflux: Could you please explain why you chose to delete the article about Rabbi Chaim Dov Keller as reported: "01:09, 6 August 2007 Xaosflux deleted "Chaim Dov Keller" (content was: 'dated prod|concern = concern|not notable under WP:BIO|month = July|day = 31|year = 2007|time = 02:52)"? Why did you prod this article about a very famous currently living rabbi? Did you consult some editors familair with this topic? Did you place a question at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Judaism or at Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Judaism? Rabbi Chaim Dov Keller is probably one of the best known rabbis in Chicago at the present time. He is not a congregational rabbi, but serves as the rosh yeshiva ("dean") of the largest yeshiva in Chicago. He is mentioned in key articles relating to Haredi Judaism. A Google search for "Chaim Dov Keller" yields over 470 hits (a large number for such a person in the world of Orthodox Judaism) many connected to numerous and significant publications in the world of American Orthodox Judaism and particularly Haredi Judaism for which he is leading spokesman and scholar with Agudath Israel of America. He co-heads the Telshe yeshiva (Chicago) and he has played a major role is speaking out on the issue of the messianic claims concerning Rabbi M.M. A clone of StatusBot would be very difficult - my code to not rely on the toolserver database doesn't work properly, and i'd need to rewrite that. Category change

I was a little surprised to see the change to Category:United States thoroughbred racing Hall of Fame inductees without notice to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Thoroughbred racing. "Thoroughbred" is a proper name that requires a capital as officially recorded by The Jockey Club [1], the breed Registry for Thoroughbred horses in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. Would you please revert this to its proper title. Thanx. (cc-Wikipedia:WikiProject Thoroughbred racing) Handicapper 18:40, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Public Radio Talent Quest (Talk page)

I just started a discussion trying to figure out why my entry was deleted and you deleted my discussion. See my user talk page about how my entry came up for deletion. Then look again at the entry that is in question, that is if you can, I can't read any discussion or anything about my entry as they are all deleted and I can't view anything.

No discussion is a complete offense and not allowing a defense to support my entry is like stealing something that was mine to begin with. I shared the information with you and the whole global community that might be interested in knowing about an item. That is what encyclopedias do isn't it?

Please restore my conversation and point out the error in my writing. If you can restore my conversation and my entry and let's talk about how it doesn't comply with the terms of the site.

I'll bet that if you go back to the beginning you'll find that it was deleted out of a prejudice and not because of content.

But of course you probably know more than anyone else. You don't have to work with people you just delete material and exclude a dialogue and diplomacy.

We could make the world a better place, if you want to, but destroying all will not accomplish your goals. Being destructive never brought about good growth. TheGreatWhiteBuffalo 02:28, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Replied on your talk. — xaosflux Talk 03:27, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Per your request on my userpage, I've undeleted Talk:Public Radio Talent Quest and tagged it to delay for at least 5 days. The Criteria for speedy deletion recognizes that talk pages without associated articles are generally speedily deletable. My deletion was without any bearing related to the deletion of the article (that I did not delete). Thank you, — xaosflux Talk 03:32, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
P.S. A discussion on a talk page of a deleted article is generally not an effective means of having it restored. Better methods would be to contact the deleting admin directly (perhaps asking if they would consider listing on WP:AFD instead) or bringing it up at Deletion Review. Thanks, — xaosflux Talk 03:34, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Thank You :) TheGreatWhiteBuffalo 03:40, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Please have a bit more patience and courtesy in the future. You jumped on my placeholder while I was creating the content, leaving a bad taste in my mouth. --John Navas 04:23, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

(from your talk), No offense meant there, was clearing out the backlog at CAT:CSD after someone else nominated this page for speedy deletion as being empty. Pages speedily deleted under that context are without any prejudice for recreation. Unfortunately, we get tons of empty pages created by others (even well-meaning editors) that never get content added to them beyond a few words, a tag, or something like "coming soon" that deletion is just the best step. I've gone back and restored the history if you are interested in it. Thank you and happy editing. — xaosflux Talk 06:17, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for the explanation and suggestion, which makes sense, and which I'll follow in the future. --John Navas 14:30, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

re:Changing archives

Both of those solutions are uneffective in terms of not being linked to the name anymore. — Moe ε 04:30, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

See User talk:Centrx‎ for a more elaborate answer. Thanks for your concern though. — Moe ε 04:58, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Protection

Please provide a rationale for protection of Help:Modifying and creating policy and Wikipedia:Accountability.

Hello? I've noticed you protected Help:Modifying and creating policy without providing a motivation on the talk poage, and you've declared you will protect Wikipedia:Accountability, but also have not provided further rationale there yet.

Could you please provide a detailed rationale for both these actions?

Thank you. :-)

Old SALT vs New SALT

This is mostly an FYI to you as an admin who still uses the old, templated method for salting pages. That method of salting pages is depricated, and the template is now up for deletion. While things can still change, the current discussion definitely looks headed towards deletion. Assuming that this happens, you will no longer be able to salt pages with the old method, and will need to begin using the newer salting method that involves cascading protection on the title, and allows recreation to be blocked while still having no article at the name, leaving it as a red link. This new method of salting is centered at WP:PT, and the instructions for how to make it work are there as well. - TexasAndroid 13:04, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
