Hoax Article[edit]

{{helpme}} I may be having a bit of trouble with the creator of an article I nominated for a speedy deletion: Brotherhood of the board. Article Quality[edit]

{{helpme}} How do I get an article's quality reassessed (or more specifically, the article for Poptropica)? I tried leaving a note at the responsible project page, but they never replied. Vltava 68 09:29, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Request to participate in University of Washington survey on tool to quickly understand Wikipedians’ reputations[edit]

Hello. I'm part of a research group at the University of Washington. In April, we met with some local Wikipedians to learn what they would like to know about other editors’ history and activities (within Wikipedia) when interacting with them on talk pages. The goal of those sessions was to gather feedback to help design an embedded application that could quickly communicate useful information about other Wikipedians. We have now created a few images that we feel represent some of what our participants thought was important. We would appreciate it if you took a few minutes of your time to complete an online survey that investigates whether or not these images would be useful to you. Your quick contribution would be very valuable to our research group and ultimately to Wikipedia. (When finished, the code for this application will be given over to the Wikipedia community to use and/or adjust as they see fit.)

Willing to spend a few minutes taking our survey? Click this link.

Please feel free to share the link with other Wikipedians. The more feedback, the better! The survey is completely anonymous and takes less than 10 minutes to complete. All data is used for university research purposes only.

Thank you for your time! If you have any questions about our research or research group, please visit our user page. Commprac01 (talk) 01:06, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Message[edit]

Hello, Vltava 68. You have new messages at JamieS93's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

{{helpme}} The table also contains the contents thingy, and I think it would look better if the contents thing was above the table (i.e. in the starting text). Unfortunately, I have no idea whatsoever of how to move the thing, or whether I even can. Vltava 68 06:38, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The table itself didn't have a closing tage ("}"), so I added it. Feel free to cut/paste the table wherever you deem it should go in the article (aka, be bold). :-) Killiondude (talk) 06:50, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

re:Music censorship[edit]

Hi Vltava. You're right, the section is rather underdeveloped and "socialist composers" should be surely mentioned there. Here is a useful book about manipulation and censorship in the music, a part of this book is about music censorship in Eastern Germany, and I'm sure, that one Czech-English book was published also in the Czech Republic. There is a lot of material even for separate article. The Plastic People are one of the clearest examples of communist repression of the Czech popular music, it's already mentioned in the article. You can add their name and short specification to the section "bands". The current version of that article is mainly about American/English artists. --Vejvančický (talk) 07:26, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Vanessa Cavanagh[edit]

why should an article about an actress who had main roles in major childrens tv shows be deleted?

i have provided a reference to her imbd page and a myspace which also lists her involvment with another show in the UK called Pop Idol.

she was an acress initially with credited roles and later decided to persue a career in music, but before she could release music she was killed in an accident. i dont see why she is NOT notable. there are less 'notable' people on here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 13ten (talk • contribs) 04:52, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Notability of music articles[edit]

You're right in that WP:MUSIC basically covers 20/21st century music only, which is the most prevalent on Wikipedia. At this point, the primary criteria to follow for this kind of topic would be the general notability guideline (GNG), which covers all. To determine the notability of a more classic subject, I'd first try to search for significant reliable coverage (the basic premise of "notability"), whether the piece was featured somewhere, or performed by significant musicians at the time – in short, any evidence that it made a notable impact within its arena of music at the time. Web searching might be useful, although it will often turn up random or unhelpful hits. You might want to try Google Books, though, since it's quite useful for finding book sources. By the way, what's the article in question? JamieS93 22:21, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't speak or read German well, so I can't easily interpret the search results here. The question would be whether or not the reliable coverage is "significant" enough. The results may be clouded, too, since that may be a common German phrase, I don't know. de.wp is arguably the second most active and organized Wikipedia, though, and they don't seem to have the article, so I'm not sure about the notability at this point. You might not wish to do this, but if you really are concerned, you could always AfD the article yourself to ask for others' input if you question the article's notability. Proposed deletion of List of Fictional Characters with Unnatural Age[edit]

The article List of Fictional Characters with Unnatural Age has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The list has remained empty since it was created on 5 July 2009. Also, the title should be List of fictional characters with unnatural age.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. LA @ 08:42, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Priya Rai (pornographic actress) needs to become Priya Rai[edit]

I think it is stupid I couldn't change the title as writing under Priya Rai as it has being blocked. I believe Priya Rai (pornographic actress) should become Priya Rai nobody else has the name on wikipedia.

re:poptropica[edit]

Hi there! it was a list of URLS I removed, from what I read in WP:REF this does not constitute a list of references. There were no inline citations to correlate with the ref items listed so to me it just looked like a bunch of URLS, maybe there is a more effective way to utilize them? perhaps in-text linkage? Measles (talk) 09:15, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'll help out when I get a chance. The in-game info should be, in my view, kept to an absolute minimum, unless there are verifiable third party sources to draw upon. This is really not my area, but I see this kind of problem a lot across wikipedia, I suppose the rules that apply to producing a synopsis for a movie article would be applicable here, but again, this is a grey area, because many of those articles never refer to independent sources. I tend to lean towards not including material, of any description, that is not properly sourced. Measles (talk) 09:00, 31 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request[edit]

{{helpme}} The current IP I'm on is blocked from editing, so could someone undo the last two (or the second last only, but the last one was on the stuff added in in the former) edits by Professorbenji in International Christian School (Hong Kong)? It seems that the editor there was trying to divert attention (and make the article biased) from some of the controversy. Vltava 68 02:16, 11 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, you should still be able to edit the article, as long as you are logged in. I would suggest trying again, (making sure that you are logged in) and if you cannot re add the {{helpme}} template, and we will work from there. Tim1357 (talk) 02:35, 11 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If that does not work, try using the secure log-in, which should bypass whatever blocks are on your IP address. Tim1357 (talk) 02:38, 11 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Vltava 68, I was reading the article on ICS (Hong Kong) and noticed the section on "criticism & controversy". The criticism is very awkwardly written (i.e. written primarily from a negative POV) and the link is dead. Please could you provide an updated link and more information on the criticism. I have no direct link to the school - I just heard the name, and thought I would look up information about it. Muchado (talk) 02:44, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Survey[edit]

Hi Vltava!

I have put together a survey for female editors of Wikipedia (and related projects) in order to explore, in greater detail, women's experiences and roles within the Wikimedia movement. It'd be wonderful if you could participate!

It's an independent survey, done by me, as a fellow volunteer Wikimedian. It is not being done on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation. I hope you'll participate!

Just click this link to participate in this survey, via Google!

Any questions or concerns, feel free to email me or stop by my user talk page. Also, feel free to share this any other female Wikimedians you may know. It is in English, but any language Wikimedia participants are encouraged to participate. I appreciate your contributions - to the survey and to Wikipedia! Thank you! Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:10, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New deal for page patrollers[edit]

Hi Vltava 68,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Musical userboxen[edit]

I've been adding userboxen to my user page and noticed that you had several templates for composers that I admire. I'm one of those strange people that consider Dvorak's Symphony # 8 (née # 4) to be even greater than the New World Symphony and who prefers Smetana's Vyšehrad to Má vlast, and was wondering whether you will be adding templates for either of those composers.
