The article does benefit of mentioning the spotted turtle because it enhances the importance of its conservation status. And if it is not mentioned, it is simply incomplete and contrary to its reference, which BTW still mentions it anyway. Moreover, your edit violates WP:NOTCENSORED. I made a compromise edit to remove the specific reference to where it is found inside the bog. Any further reverts will need to be discussed first at Wikipedia talk:Canadian Wikipedians' notice board or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Protected areas. Firstly, spotted turtle does not need to be mentioned to highlight the importance of its conservation status. This job is adequately done by the other species already mentioned and could be replaced by the equally endangered Blanding's turtle found in the bog (which is not at risk due to human trafficking in the pet trade). Second, not every bit of detail in a reference needs to be mentioned in the article. It does not make it an incomplete article. There are other facts about Mer Bleue in that same reference not included in the article. As a side note, copying and pasting exactly what a reference says is plagiarism (even it it's cited) and does not make it 'contrary to the reference'. Contrary to a reference means it disputes that reference. Simply not included a species on a long list of species does not make it contrary. Third, there is a good chance that reference was taken down (and needs to be accessed with wayback machine) due to its inclusion of spotted turtle, as is the case with many documents that mention locations of this animal. Yes, technically this is censorship, but it's also an exercise in common sense. If a species is endangered, in large part due to illegal collection for the pet trade, is it not preferable to remove specific location information for that species than to be worried about having an incomplete article? Especially when the benefit of mentioning it can be equally achieved by replacing it with another species of turtle. As it stands now the article is mostly plagiarism and made up facts with no source (ex. the talk about black bear, cougar, etc). --vince (talk) 13:52, 23 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

First, the Ramsar info is still readily available, the link just needs to be updated. Second, is there any evidence that pet trade is such a problem in this bog? I just can't help thinking that this approach is nothing more than a form of internet manipulation or misinformation. This isn't some internet conspiracy. Nor is this misinformation. Somehow saying it wasn't there (ie 'these are the only species at Mer Bleue', then not including it) would be misinformation. This is an effort to make the precise whereabouts of this species not as publicly known in order to protect it from the illegal pet trade and preserve it in the bog. Has there been collection of this species in Mer Bleue before? Unsure, but that's hardly the point. Prevention is best. Even if someone was caught, this would not be published information in an attempt to prevent anyone else from getting the idea. --vince (talk) 20:39, 23 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I would also like to point out that the Ramsar information sheet also mentions 'berry picking' as an activity at Mer Bleue, when the owners (NCC) have explicit signage saying it is prohibited and punishable by fine. Just because the information is on an old document does not mean it should be on the Wikipedia page. Keep in mind, when that information was written (a quarter century ago), spotted turtle may not have been considered at risk or a sensitive species (it even predates SARA). --vince (talk) 20:44, 23 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
