Great Author[edit]

VP is a great Wiki worker. Just wanted to say that and thank him.

Please read WP:NFCC criterion #8 before posting fair use[edit]

What does that mean ? The purpose of the images in the list of HTF characters is to illustrate the character, not decorate the list. The characters have many details on their bodies such as Cuddles' rabbit slippers, Nutty's candies stuck on his fur, Sniffle's pocket protector, etc. But I'm just wondering if you also remove images because there are too many images in the article ?

So you deleted the Mr. Monk Goes to the Bank page and redirected to the List of Monk episodes. You're right, I suppose. But as a result, the list of episodes now contains a self-referencing link. Should you not clean that up? Ronstew (talk) 04:15, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:BondAndJaws.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:BondAndJaws.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 10:45, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Request to move article Casino Royale (novel) incomplete[edit]

You recently filed a request at Wikipedia:Requested moves to move the page Casino Royale (novel) to a different title - however your proposal is either incomplete or has been contested as being controversial. As a result, it has been moved to the incomplete and contested proposals section. Requests that remain incomplete after five days will be removed.

Please make sure you have completed all three of the following:

  1. Added {{move|NewName}} at the top of the talk page of the page you want moved, replacing "NewName" with the new name for the article. This creates the required template for you there.
  2. Added {{subst:RMtalk|NewName|reason for move}} to the bottom of the talk page of the page you want to be moved, to automatically create a discussion section there.
  3. Added {{subst:RMlink|PageName|NewName|reason for move}} to the top of today's section here.

If you need any further guidance, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Requested moves or contact me on my talk page. - JPG-GR (talk) 05:15, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

re Paul McCartney; warning re editing[edit]

Following a request by User:Andreasegde I have reviewed your contributions to the above article. While the edits can be classified as helpful, I consider that they do not improve the article so much as to negate the disruption that you are evidently causing to the other editors to the article - and I am concerned that you are editing in such a manner to make a WP:POINT. I would ask you to not edit the article further without reaching consensus first on the talkpage; the article was previously stable and had consensus, and you therefore need to change that consensus to alter the article. Please regard this as an official warning, and note that disregarding this notice may result in you being blocked. I notice that you have also been provided with Rollbacker rights. I would further warn you that should you use rollback to revert any edit to the McCartney article that isn't obvious vandalism, and any edit whatsoever by Andreasegde (who is a good faith editor), I shall block you immediately and refer the matter to WP:AN for review of my actions, your editing record, and your Rollbacker rights.

Lastly, my attention has been drawn to this matter which I was previously involved in - and I remember your reluctance to abide by the spirit of the WP ethos. I strongly suggest that you consider your attitude toward consensus and working with your fellow wikipedians, and adjust your editing practices accordingly. Read the comments at the bottom of the reassessment, it will really help you with those citations.

If you can find a source that resolves multiple requests you can just add the one source and remove all the tags within that sentance. Im sure you know that already though. If you think other tags are unnessary you can remove them but leave a GOOD reasoning in the edit summary. Im monitering it, if your reasoning is good it'll be accepted. If your unsure that something honestly needs a source come speak to me or query it at the reassessment. Cheers. --Realist2 (Come Speak To Me) 21:43, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We are using some of the same sources quite frequently, we should do some of that "ref name" formatting to these sources so that we dont have to write the full source out over and over, it will cut down the bytes of the article too. "Synthesizing material occurs when an editor tries to demonstrate the validity of his or her own conclusions by citing sources that when put together serve to advance the editor's position. If the sources cited do not explicitly reach the same conclusion, or if the sources cited are not directly related to the subject of the article, then the editor is engaged in original research" (Wikipedia: No Original Research) - there is no source given that explicitly says the conclusion that "there were many concerns that England was trying to use the Union to dominate Scotland". The examples used CANNOT be used to promote a further conclusion. A Wikipedian CANNOT make that inference themselves. It MUST be sourced. Yeesh! 213.131.125.34 (talk) 11:34, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Madonna[edit]

I didn't say that the word "rock and roll" applies to "any music, I said that any popular, mainstream music (such as Madonna) is often incorrectly referred to as "rock and roll", even though it isn't actually rock music. I'd be willing to reinstate the category provided that you can show me a citation where someone identifies one of her songs as being "rock". Her music is pop, dance and electronica, and I have never heard anything by her to indicate otherwise. Asarelah (talk) 05:30, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Using "number" instead of "#' increases readability and reduces clutter. Its up to you; anyway, it's not a policy. --Efe (talk) 05:58, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AMG[edit]

is a reliable website and pretty mcuh the first place anybody goes to while working on a music article. Honestly, I have never heard anybody bring up reliability issues with AG. The info for the singles listed there are taken directly from the Billboard website, there's a tag at the bottom "Chart information courtesy of Billboard.com © 2006 VNU eMedia, Inc. All rights reserved". As for user submissions, maybe they have a blog or something along with the site (many sites have that even Rolling Stone), but reviews and chart info are not user contributed. The advantage of the using the Allmusic page is that its a one-stop place for the chart positions, and its much easier to just cite that one website. Further, the article size becomes significantly smaller. Also, we avoid the ugly citation after every comma, enhancing readability.. indopug (talk) 14:15, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Madonna[edit]

Madonna's politics deserve it's own section. She has been politically active for three decades now. You shouldn't just hide it in the text. We had the section for a reason. Also, I fixed information like "Up For Grabs" being done in 2002, not 2004, and you removed the mention of the "Sticky and Sweet" tour. You're adding all her political references from the past couple of years, in the 2005-06 bit. It's a mess. Please keep it in its own section like it was before. We also have to add her "Get Out The Vote" ads, her Bill Clinton sketch, and comments, etc. It's been ongoing. In the future, could you please check before you go calling everything vandalism? I did not "vandalize". Maddyfan (talk) 07:31, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yet another editor bugging you about recent edits.[edit]

Hola. I am inclined to undo the redirection of Hero (Quest for Glory) to Quest for Glory, which is somewhat unorthodox so I'm bringing it up with you first in the spirit of universal peace and brotherhood.

The article's plot content is minimal. The Hero is the traditional kind of silent first-person protagonist and generally doesn't even have a name. Instead, the article has vital coverage of the game mechanics of the series; these revolve around the hero. The coverage looks like it can use some tightening, as most things do, but it is descriptive rather than instructive and important to have (i) as a basic element of our coverage of the series, (ii) because Quest for Glory was a very high-profile series and remains one of the most prominent adventure game series, and (iii) because the series was either a unique hybrid or the best-known member of a very small group.

Iff it's all the same to you, answering on this page would be preferable. If you so prefer, then feel free to just smile, nod, and go on your merry way instead. --Kizor 22:18, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Keep aside your three points; does it meet WP:FICTION?
No, because it is predominantly not about an element of fiction. That's what I've been trying to say. It's information about the game, information we should have (re: (i), (ii), (iii)). This may not be the optimal way to organize the info, but it's the one we have and will likely have for some time because of the relative scarcity of experienced retrogaming editors and because yours truly still has that "dangerously erratic" thing going on that I've been trying to kick. It beats not having that information presented to the readers at all, so on that basis, with this not being the kind of fiction article that you've been concerned about, and hoping to not drag out a minor matter, I've undone the redirection. I hope that you agree with this reasoning so that we come to an amiable conclusion. Cheers, Kizor 07:30, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Moonraker-Attack-of-US-astronauts.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Moonraker-Attack-of-US-astronauts.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:13, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alien & Predator video games[edit]

Hi. I really appreciate the work you're doing merging the prop & character articles into Aliens (film). However, I'm going to have to ask you to stop unilaterally removing merge tags from the video game articles. If you disagree that a particular article should be merged, start a discussion on the article's talk page or join in the discussion at Talk:List of Alien and Predator games. The tags shouldn't be removed until the merge is completed or a consensus is reached not to merge. And we can only come to such a consensus through discussion. You removed tags from several articles under the claim that they were notable or that notability was shown. But Wikipedia establishes notability through third-party sources, and none of those articles have any. Just because a game has received an update or has mods doesn't automatically make it notable. Wikiproject Video Games has some good advice on how to establish notability and provide good article content. Out of the 7 articles you removed merge tags from, 6 consist of little more than an infobox, plot summary, and copyrighted screenshots. Most are obvious stubs. Merger into a list article is a perfectly reasonable suggestion in these cases and if you disagree you are welcome to join or start a discussion. But you shouldn't just remove the tags outright, and I find it a bit hypocritical that you would do so when you are in the process of merging the Aliens-related articles that suffer from pretty much the same problems as these video game articles. --IllaZilla (talk) 16:19, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free images in lists[edit]

Unless the individual images pass all parts of WP:NFCC, they're all excessive. This has been heavily debated before - see here and here. In general, unless the actual appearance of the character is being discussed in the article, and the image would greatly add to the reader's understanding because of this, then they fail. Latest Madonna Edits[edit]

I don't think it's a good idea to mention Madonna's views on the Church in the lead. It might outright offend many unnecessarily. Besides, the lead says that Madonna had 3 consecutive number 1 studio albums in the '80s. The lead shall also say her last 4 studio albums reached the number 1 position in order to balance everything, show people she is still as successful.

Is mentionning the divorce from Sean Penn in the lead necessary? I spoke to a fervent Catholic that was very offended by that too... He was fuming! LOL! The lead should not make readers outright dislike her or any artist. It's meant to inform them about the article, its contents and the artist.

The Confessions Tour achievement is quite major. It used to be in the lead for quite awhile. Top-grossing tour by a female artist in history. Thanks for listening. Israell (talk) 02:17, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Do you think Giovanni (Pokémon) should be merged into List of Pokémon anime characters#Giovanni? I don't think it establishes enough notability to maintain an individual article. Artichoker[talk] 22:14, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As I responded on my talk page, he has only made one or two appearances in a couple games (R/B/Y/FR/LG); he is much more prominent in the anime, so if his article was to be merged, it would certainly go to the List of Pokémon anime characters. Moving of Predator (alien)[edit]

I'm a bit ambiguous as to why you changed the name. Predator (alien) was to define between a Predator as a species and the film itself. The article on the Alien was changed because Alien (Alien) sounded bad (even though it should have been Alien (alien), I believe), to differentiate between the numerous Alien articles, but the article on the Predators themselves didn't need to be clarified, in my opinion. This also means fixing links, too, but that isn't a drama. So really I'm asking/saying, is there any real good reason you have to change it? It was perfectly fine before. Keep in mind I'm not accusing you of anything. For now I'm changing it back. My regards, LordJesseD (talk) 14:23, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You redirected American aerial bombardment of Afghanistan to War in Afghanistan (2001–present).

I see User:Buckshot06 had placed a {{prod}} on the article. They did not, however, comply with the advice in WP:PROD, which states:

"Although not required, it is considered courteous to notify the article's creator and other significant contributors that you have proposed an article for deletion."

Just to be clear -- you are not an administrator, correct?

My reading of WP:PROD is that the conclusion of the {{prod}} should be performed by an administrator. My reading of WP:PROD is that the administrator who makes the concluding decision is supposed to record the reason for their conclusion.

GeoSwan, If you disagree with the redirect, revert it and discuss it on the talk page. Anyone may deal with a prodded article in any way, except to delete it. That of course takes an admin. When closing an expired prod and I decide to delete it, I usually do not give a reason of my own if I think the prodding reason sufficient-- which is generally the case, for if I thought otherwise,, i wouldnt be deleting it. Didn't the fall in sales start in 1992? Wouldn't it be more appropriate to amend it? The article implies it started in 1990, which isn't the case. Israell (talk) 06:03, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

question about American aerial bombardment of Afghanistan...[edit]

I see you redirected American aerial bombardment of Afghanistan.

The person who nominated American aerial bombardment of Afghanistan for deletion did not comply with the recommendation in the deletion guidelines that nominators advise those who started articles when then nominate them for deletion.

This is highly annoying, but I realize it should not be regarded as a sign of bad faith.

I left a request for an explanation on their talk page. And they left me a reply. But they do not appear to have looked for my reply.

I went to add to this article again today, and was highly irritated to find it had been {{prod}}ded and redirected before I had an opportunity to dispute that {{prod}}. I continue to disagree very strongly with the reasoning of the nominator.

There is absolutely no question in my mind that the topic of the American aerial bombardment of Afghanistan merits a stand-alone article.

I saw from your user page that it is your policy not to take sides in controversies. So I am going to assume that your redirection was simply administrative, because the {{prod}} was five days old.

As the person who made the decision to redirect the article do you think I have any obligation to take any steps prior to re-instating the article prior to redirection, and then adding the additional material?

With regard to the {{npov}} tag added to this article shortly after I started it -- normally I followup when contributors place an {{npov}} or similar tag on material I have contributed, to make sure I understand their concern. FWIW the contributor who added the {{npov}} is a sometime follower of my edits, who disappoints me, by being unwilling or unable to offer civil responses when I have offered civil counter-arguments to concerns they express. I have had to request that particular contributor to keep their responses to me on a civil plane about half a dozen times.

Proposed deletion of Corinne Dufour[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Corinne Dufour, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. ╟─Treasury§Tag►contribs─╢ 08:07, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Louis_Armstrong_by_Niki_de_Saint_Phalle.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Louis_Armstrong_by_Niki_de_Saint_Phalle.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 02:35, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also has other English (distantly related to the Baronets Beresford, Viscounts of Tyrone, Earls of Tyrone and Marquesses of Waterford, to Barons Decies and to Baron Beresford, and to the Marquess of Campo-Maior Count of Trancoso in Portugal), Irish, German and remote Dutch ancestry.. Replaceable fair use Image:SusanGriffiths.jpg[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:SusanGriffiths.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — neuro(talk) 13:24, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GA Sweeps invitation[edit]

Hello, I hope you are doing well. I am sending you this message since you are listed as a GA reviewer. I would like to invite you to consider helping with the GA sweeps process. Sweeps helps to ensure that the oldest GAs still meet the criteria, and improve the quality of GAs overall. Unfortunately, last month only two articles were reviewed. This is definitely a low point after our peak at the beginning of the process when 163 articles were reviewed in September 2007. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. All exempt and previously reviewed articles have already been removed from the list. Instead of reviewing by topic, you can consider picking and choosing whichever articles interest you.

We are always looking for new members to assist with the remaining articles, so if you are interested or know of anybody that can assist, please visit the GA sweeps page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. If only 14 editors achieve this feat starting now, we would be done with Sweeps! Of course, having more people reviewing less articles would be better for all involved, so please consider asking others to help out. Feel free to stop by and only review a few articles, something's better than nothing! Take a look at the list, and see what articles interest you. Let's work to complete Sweeps so that efforts can be fully focused on the backlog at GAN. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! Bond mistakes[edit]

Hi Ultraviolet --

I'm impressed by your knowledge of Bond, and the thought you've brought to pages concerning 007.

However, as the writer of several of these films, there are inaccuracies on the pages that concern me that I would like to see corrected. The problem is that the attribution for these "facts" leads to fan-based websites that are filled with rumors and hearsay; and I've now encountered at least one major publication who repeated the wrong information, attributing it to Wikipedia, without questioning the validity of the underlying source.

If possible, I'd like to discuss this with you, off-line, via email.

Would it be possible for you to contact me? Editor (at) bruce.feirstein.com.

Thanks, Bruce. 75.5.7.196 (talk) 21:40, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Brosnan and Connery at Madame Tussauds.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. [4], and it was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19, or is not used in any articles. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
  • add the relevant copyright tag.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. — ξxplicit 22:36, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

hey[edit]

Hi Ultra. You probably don't remember me, but you once put three FA medals on my user page ^^ I'm actually trying to get one of my FAs, "Voyage: Inspired by Jules Verne", onto the main page. I have waited three and a half years, and now I have put it on the TFA request page, but response has been quite mixed. So far (including my vote) it is a tie at 3-3 supports and opposes. I'm asking if you could kindly lend your support to this article being on the main page but giving another support. People keep saying "video games shouldn't be on the main page", but I feel after three years I just deserve 24 hours to have my article up there. Well, if you feel my article is not deserving, please don't support it, but if you feel it is deserving, I thank you kindly for a support vote. Madonna at the premiere of I Am Because We Are at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival

Madonna (born 1958) is an American singer, songwriter, actress and entrepreneur. Madonna has sold more than 300 million records worldwide and is recognized as the world's top-selling female recording artist of all time by the Guinness World Records. Considered to be one of the "25 Most Powerful Women of the Past Century" by Time for being an influential figure in contemporary music, Madonna is known for continuously reinventing both her music and image, and for retaining a standard of autonomy within the recording industry. Critics have praised Madonna for her diverse musical productions which have also served as a lightning rod for religious controversy. Throughout her career, many of her songs have hit number one on the record charts, including "Like a Virgin", "Papa Don't Preach", "Like a Prayer", "Vogue", "Frozen", "Music", "Hung Up", and "4 Minutes". According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), she is the best-selling female rock artist of the 20th century and the second top-selling female artist in the United States, with 64 million certified albums. In 2008, Billboard magazine ranked Madonna at number two, behind only The Beatles, on the Billboard Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists, making her the most successful solo artist in the history of the chart. She was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the same year. (more...)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on James Bond fandom requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content or organised event, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. IsaacAA (talk) 10:06, 15 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article James Bond fandom has been proposed for deletion. The proposed deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:10, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New deal for page patrollers[edit]

Hi Ultraviolet scissor flame,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:AVTAK-Moore-Roberts-Jones-promophoto.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:AVTAK-Moore-Roberts-Jones-promophoto.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ytoyoda (talk) 15:00, 18 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:20, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
