Cannabis Ruderalis

Alis was born in April of 198x, a few hours short of Easter, and her earliest memories were of speed. In the early years, the years that later could not be remembered distinctly, she developed an impression of wind, of black German winter night speeding past windows, and confirmed later with her parents that they had carried her around the cities of Western Europe and that she had had at an early age been expected not to disturb musicians, artists, promoters, record people. She carried the gene, from her father, for the need for relentless travel, but before the genetics could express themselves, she was engulfed into the life of the itinerant musical promoter and driver, and then, subsequently into the life of the medical products salesman. The arrival of a formal dependent awoke in Stan a desire to make a more regular income, and this career switch was lucrative. Stan’s earlier incident was never revealed to his wife or daughter. In fact, in the de Sade sense, the existence of the one compromise or sin seemed to ensure a happy and healthy life thereafter. In point of fact, the long hours selling drug-coated stents and educating doctors through “seminars” that really amounted to several hours of boozing and investigating whether there were opportunities for even more direct supply of money or services which would have corroded the soul of a more privileged or less ruthless individual instead served to add up to a nice sized cottage in London SE, as well as a golf club membership, EasyJet and RyanAir vacations to Scandinavia and the Baltic states, and then, later, through an old musician friendship, an opportunity to be a founding member at the North School, an experimental school just south of Luton. Stan and Angel took a 2% share and got free enrollment for the rapidly growing Alis. Alis wore a gray plaid jumper and then earned sufficiently high grades to become both an academic and social force at NS.
