Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. —Cryptic 20:25, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Trying to figure out why we were blocked

There was no spammy advertising. I was explaining what my clients history of his job was;

I enter history of the company more about the founders where they were located external links

Please explain to me what happened.

Decline reason:

Your description of the company was glowing and devoid of criticism. Anyway, you need to change your username, so in your next unblock request, you should advise what username you want. Also there are 3 questions below for you to answer. PhilKnight (talk) 21:45, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Here are a few key questions:

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. PhilKnight (talk) 21:46, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sensor_Networks (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)

Request reason:

Yes, we understand that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. I'm not sure what you mean by the page was "glowing." Also, I didn't add criticism "...devoid of criticism" because there was nothing to criticize. We thought Wikipedia was about providing factual information about companies. The site provided informational text about what Sensor Networks does. We're still confused over why we were blocked. We didn't mock anything nor say anything that was false. Furthermore, we didn't promote anything on the site. There external links were mostly other Wikipedia Pages and everything was informative text which is much different from "ambiguous advertising." We can provide sources of information as needed. The page wasn't finalized when it was promptly blocked and labeled as spam. If you can provide specific examples of what was labeled as spam, we'll be more than happy to erase it. Please advise. Thanks

You still haven't provided an appropriate username, which you've been told multiple times that you need to do. Jackmcbarn (talk) 22:24, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Changing username We're not sure if we are doing this right. If not, please explain as the Changing Username page is confusing and did not provide us any help. Sorry for the inconvenience. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sensor Networks (talk • contribs) 15:36, 14 January 2015‎

The instructions at Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple are more straightforward than the main Changing Username page (which has to deal with a lot of contingencies that don't apply in this case). Do they suffice? —Cryptic 16:18, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Cryptic: Absolutely. Thank you for your help. It's much appreciated. Sorry about all the confusion from above. We're new to Wikipedia.

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Sensor Networks. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies. Note that Wikipedia's terms of use require disclosure of your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 16:35, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

(talk) Thank you for this information. Personally, I work for an agency who was hired to create the page for Wikipedia. I just wanted to create an informative page about who they are and what they do. I have only met one out of the two men mentioned. Since Wikipedia was an informative site, I added the external links for more clarification, not meant for advertising but after reading the above, I can assume that's where it may have come from. That was my fault, I apologize. Is it okay to link to the other Wiki pages associated with the types of sensors they use? Thanks for the help.

You should read this [[1]] I would strongly advise you not to create the article if you are unblocked, paid editing is fraught with difficulty and not encouraged. Theroadislong (talk) 17:00, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
