January 2023[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm JayBeeEll. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person on Ronald Castorina, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Blog posts and other self-published content is unacceptable for posting negative content on a biography of a living person -- see WP:SPS. JBL (talk) 18:50, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Very Reliable Source:

Frank Parlato is an investigative journalist.
His work has been cited in hundreds of news outlets, like The New York Times, The Daily Mail, VICE News, CBS News, Fox News, New York Post, New York Daily News, Oxygen, Rolling Stone, People Magazine, The Sun, The Times of London, CBS Inside Edition, among many others in all five continents.
His work to expose and take down NXIVM is featured in books like “Captive” by Catherine Oxenberg, “Scarred” by Sarah Edmonson, “The Program” by Toni Natalie, and “NXIVM. La Secta Que Sedujo al Poder en México” by Juan Alberto Vasquez.
Parlato has been prominently featured on HBO’s docuseries “The Vow” and was the lead investigator and coordinating producer for Investigation Discovery’s “The Lost Women of NXIVM.” In addition, he was credited in the Starz docuseries 'Seduced' for saving 'slave' women from being branded and escaping the sex-slave cult known as DOS.
Parlato appeared on the Nancy Grace Show, Beyond the Headlines with Gretchen Carlson, Dr. Oz, American Greed, Dateline NBC, and NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, where Parlato conducted the first-ever interview with Keith Raniere after his arrest. This was ironic, as many credit Parlato as one of the primary architects of his arrest and the cratering of the cult he founded.
Parlato is a consulting producer and appears in TNT's The Heiress and the Sex Cult, which premieres on May 22, 2022.

Updates to lede without a reliable source[edit]

Warning icon Please stop. If you continue to add unsourced or poorly sourced content, you may be blocked from editing. OhNoitsJamie Talk 19:09, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What is your objection to Frank Parlato's reporting? RALafontaine (talk) 19:12, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Copying/pasting from the section above is not helpful. Please read WP:RS; two editors disagree that the source meets criteria; I suggest taking it to the reliable sources noticeboard if you wish to solicit additional feedback. In any case, it certainly doesn't belong in the WP:LEDE paragraph. OhNoitsJamie Talk 19:13, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You are wrong. Plain and simple. RALafontaine (talk) 19:16, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You are the only person objecting. The other editor backed down once they saw it was Frank Parlato as the source. RALafontaine (talk) 19:17, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You will be blocked if you continue to violate WP:BLP policy. OhNoitsJamie Talk 19:17, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm taking this over your head. Who has authority to say that you are wrong? RALafontaine (talk) 19:18, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Final warning; please take it to WP:RSN[edit]

Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you violate Wikipedia's biographies of living persons policy by inserting unsourced or poorly sourced defamatory or otherwise controversial content into an article or any other Wikipedia page. It is not appropriate to make allegations of perjury in the WP:LEDE of a WP:BLP article based on primary source from a single journalist. OhNoitsJamie Talk 19:18, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This story will probably break BIG in the NY media over the next day or two. RALafontaine (talk) 19:22, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If it does, then we can reconsider whether the material merits inclusion. Wikipedia isn't a breaking news outlet. OhNoitsJamie Talk 19:23, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello RALafontaine! Your additions to Draft:The Lost Women of NXIVM (documentary) have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 15:53, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
