I edited this page a bit. There was no upper Lake(s) commerce during the 18th century [please see Vrana]. The station was built by the USLSS, not the USCG - the Coast Guard wasn't formed until 1915 [Vrana]. South Manitou is the finest natural harbor not only in northern Lake Michigan but probably all the upper Lakes - but Sleeping Bear Bay (Glen Arbor), Betsie Bay, Platte Bay and Good Harbor Bay (go figure!) are also fine natural harbors. Just not as good as South Manitou [Vrana, again]. Finally, the comment stating the South Manitou lighthouse does not mark the harbor seems rather silly to me. Whether or not that is the reason for its construction (and I tend to think that is one of the reasons it was built) it is obvious that today it marks and marks well the southern sweep of the harbor.
Request for Usurpation[edit]
Hello, Old Islander. A request has been made at Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations to usurp, or "take over", your username because another user would like to use it to edit. The changing username guideline allows a username that is not being actively used to be usurped if the user is given an opportunity to object and does not do so.

If you object to being renamed: please log in and make an edit to this page clearly stating that you object to usurpation.
Please note that even if your current username is usurped, you can still edit and your data will not be lost; your preferences, watchlist, and other user settings will be transferred to a new username.
