Response Speedy deletion of "Oladele Bankole Balogun"[edit]

Hello, Pardon me, as I'm still learning the rudiments of using the Wikipedia Oladele Bankole Balogun is a Nigerian lawyer and current Public Complaints Commission Ombudsman running for the House of Representatives in Nigeria under the current ruling party of the PDP. Candidates for Unites states House of Reps have their own pages, so not understanding why this is a problem? Please clarify.

I probably messed up the format of this response, but I'm learning.

Thanks, Ofunne (talk) 01:55 am, 3 July 2014 (PST)

Candidates don't always have pages - in general, pages are included when they meet these criteria, although politicians can also be evaluated against these criteria. Probably, you should read all of Wikipedia:Your First Article, but the important point here is that Wikipedia summarises information on topics (people, places, ideas, whatever) from sources (books, magazines, TV shows, newspapers, etc) that are independent of the subject that're about; and so we only have articles where there's enough of these sources to write a decent article. In the case of that particle article, I think the Guardian article is a good source, but as a single source, it's unlikely to be enough to justify an article *alone*. Responding to deletion of "Oladele Bankole Balogun"[edit]

No worries. I am not invested in this one way or another. Was having a heated discussion with a group of people about the political situation in Nigeria and he came up as a flamboyant character with ultimate presidential aspirations. I looked him up and he didn't find a page I and felt I should start one especially since it is anticipated that things will get interesting during the elections. I personally would like to contact him directly to get his opinions on topics like corruption, religious fundamentalism and Boko Haram in Nigeria. Trying to acquire permission to include related images to the article. Bottom line, is I feel strongly that this page would interest many Nigerians in Nigeria and the diaspora.

Will research to see if there are more related articles, citations and such...

Thanks for your consideration. Ofunne (talk) 12:55 pm, 3 July 2014 (PST)
