Autopatrolled granted[edit]

Hi Nat965, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Schwede66 19:03, 9 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

See also section[edit]

Hi there. Just so you know, when you put a link to a FISA bio using the FISA template, that generates an external link. External links don't go into the "See also" section as per MOS:SEEALSO, but need to be listed under the "External links" heading. Schwede66 20:03, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Oh my, thanks very much for the reminder, Schwede66. Nat965 06:33, 15 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Placename dab pages[edit]

AWB doesn't seem to recognise that place-name disambiguation pages are disambiguation pages, so it allows you to apply inappropriate genfixes as here and here. You're responsible for all edits you do with AWB so please look out for these and remember that a disambiguation page should be an orphan and isn't a stub, so both those tags are wrong. Thanks. PamD 21:57, 3 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I've already reported this AWB bug at Phabricator, and someone claims to have resolved it - I've reported it again today. PamD 22:11, 3 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request for some quick advice for article improvement[edit]

Hi. You recently reviewed an article I rewrote, Abu Sa'id Mirza and gave it a "C" rating. I'm trying to aim for a "B", so I was wondering what the most obvious issue was? Thank you. Alivardi (talk) 14:28, 8 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Listas=[edit]

I see that you added "Listas=" to Talk:Serena Armstrong-Jones,Countess of Snowdon, and I see other editors doing that addition, too. What does doing that accomplish?--Dthomsen8 (talk) 18:18, 21 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, sorry for the late reply, @Dthomsen8: Listas is a parameter found in the coding of the WikiProject Biography box which operates like {{DEFAULTSORT}}. It is a sortkey for the article talk page (for example, for Serena Armstrong-Jones,Countess of Snowdon, |listas=Armstrong-Jones, Serena, Countess of Snowdon, so that the talk page will show up in the A's and not the S's of the various assessment and administrative categories). You will also see Chinese names for example that don't need sorting, but some editors such as Lepricavark and I are trying to empty Category:Biography articles without listas parameter down to zero. Nat965 (talk) 21:55, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Woohoo[edit]

Hey, Nat965. I'd like to wish you a wonderful First Edit Day on behalf of the Wikipedia Birthday Committee!

A barnstar for you![edit]

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
Thanks for your help on the listas project. It is much appreciated! I'm glad to see the progress you've made at the end of the alphabet. I've long wanted all of V-Z to be on the same page, and I was quite surprised to see that you had made that goal a reality. Lepricavark (talk) 02:44, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hey! Thanks @Lepricavark:! Just out of interest, is there some sort of way you tackle the category, or is it just sort of random? Nat965 (talk) 03:54, 7 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the delay in answering, but for a while there I could edit via AWB but I couldn't load Wikipedia in my web browser. And then, just as I was typing this up, my internet went down. As you may know, this site has had several outages throughout the past 10-12 hours. Getting back to your question, it is somewhat random at times. My preferred approach is to load the Category:Biography articles without listas parameter in AWB and then filter it in various ways (articles with parenthetical disambiguators, articles with periods in the title such as "John A. Doe", or articles that are also part of other categories). I've also spent a lot of time doing the work from the web browser with help from a script that allows me to open a rater window from the article itself instead of going to the talk page. There's a method to my madness, but there is a great deal of variety within that method. I tend to jump around alphabetically because otherwise I get bored. That's sort of a rambling answer, but hopefully it helps. Lepricavark (talk) 17:13, 7 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Constituencies established in 1907 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! Military history article ratings[edit]

You rated a couple of articles I started recently: François Cornil Bart and René de Cornulier-Lucinière. You filled out the checklists for both as meeting none of the criteria for B-Class status. To help improve these articles could you identify, either here or on the article talk pages, which statements (apart from the lead) have no citations, what the obvious omissions and inaccuracies are, how the article structures should be improved, the major grammatical errors and the supporting material that should be added. Thanks, Aymatth2 (talk) 22:13, 8 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sources needed for Days of the Year pages[edit]

You're probably not aware of this change, but Days of the Year pages now require direct sources for additions. For details see the content guideline, the WikiProject Days of the Year style guide or the edit notice on any DOY page. Almost all new additions without references are now being reverted on-sight.

Please do not add new additions to these pages without direct sources as the burden to provide them is on the editor who adds or restores material to these pages.

Thank you. Toddst1 (talk) 21:54, 26 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Norris (surname), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Mark Norris (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:11, 27 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

John Derrick[edit]

Hi,

Re your dab request about John Derrick in the Guildford article. As there only appears to be two things known about him, his mention of cricket and being coroner for Surrey, it is unlikely he will ever get an article to himself so it may be better just to delete the link. If one is necessary then I would suggest John Derrick, which will provide a red link if someone does decide to write an article about him. Hope that helps Murgatroyd49 (talk) 10:49, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Frederick Hamilton (soldier)[edit]

Dear Nat965. Thank you very much for your excellent corrections on the article Frederick Hamilton (soldier). Many of them such as "In 13 June" -> "On 13 June" are very appreciated and obviously improve the readability of the article. My English is 2nd-language and I am still learning English and Wikipedia. I see that you are a native speaker and a Journeyman Editor. However, why is "km2" better than "km²"? Should one really modernise dates in quotations to Wikipedia standards (MOS:DATE) such as you did with "The irruption of Hamilton into Sligo took place on the night of the 1 July, 1642." -> "The irruption of Hamilton into Sligo took place on the night of the 1 July 1642." (O'Rorke, 1890); or "27 March, 1625" -> "27 March 1625" (Smyth, 1839)? Please help me to understand. With many thanks, Johannes Schade (talk) 05:28, 16 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Nat965. I found you were right about "km2" -> "km²" It is explained in MOS:SUPERSCRIPT. Sorry to have bothered you with this. However, it seems that you should not have removed the commas from the dates in the quotations. Please bring them back. With apology and many thanks, Johannes Schade (talk) 07:48, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Nat965. I hope you are well. Please reply and fix the commas as discussed above. You must not change date formats to comply with MOS:DAT when they are inside quotations. With many thanks, Johannes Schade (talk) 07:37, 12 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Nat965. I hope you are well. I am trying to find a solution for this. Could you please tell me what the version of your AWB is? This information is found in the Help Menu, About item. The history of the Jews in Leeds[edit]

Hi - I have been developing this page and was correcting various typos and my stylistic oversights, when I began to realise that someone had edited the text, that these were not my oversights. Thank you for all the spelling corrections and removal of repeat reference etc. Did you only remove repeat references? It would be helpful when making such extensive changes to leave me a message. I find it hard to know what has happened otherwise, as the wikipedia edit history system is baffling to me.

As for replacing e.g. "(1947- )" with "(Born 1947)", I see now that this is in the Wikipedia style guide. This has left many of the list as "John Smith (Born 1947) Born in Leeds ..", which seems very clunky to me; is the only solution for me to rewrite all of these?

Similarly, you have replaced "-" with a longer dash. Is this also a wikipedia rule? As far as I can see we should use en dash not em dash, which seems to mean use the shorter one, or have I misunderstood? Anyway this is the only one I have conveniently on my keyboard. Please advise.
