July 2016[edit]

Information icon Thanks for contributing to the article Little Secret. However, one of Wikipedia's core policies is that material must be verifiable, by being clearly attributed to reliable sources, preferably using inline citations. Please help by adding more sources to the article you edited, and/or by clarifying how the sources already given support the material (see here for how to do inline referencing). Thanks! P.S. If you need any help, you can look at Help:Contents/Editing Wikipedia or ask at Wikipedia:New contributors' help page, or just ask me. Thank you. --Jax 0677 (talk) 23:30, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Nikki Yanofsky - Little Secret Citation Needed[edit]

Hello @Jax 0677: The Solid Gold album in the Little Secret Album Chronology likely only really has one credible citation that can be used until the actual release of the album. However because it's found on Yanofsky's official Instagram, the link becomes invalid any time she changes her profile name or an Instagram update comes around, which happened a lot of times already in the span of a few months. Also I'm not entirely sure if Instagram can be used as a credible source on here but because she's been verified there it's good support.

If you're using the computer you can follow the link below and find the info captioned with the video. Clicking on her profile name will take you to her feed and you'll see Instagram's verified badge by the name so you know it's her official profile.

Let me know what can be worked out. Me00lmeals (talk) 01:33, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please ask before doing things...[edit]

You are walking a very thin line on the assumption of good faith at this point - your edit focus on Nikki Yanofsky and related articles makes it look like you are a single purpose account with a potential conflict of interest, and some of your actions, like redirecting an article at AfD, or adding unverified info] to an article, are against policy. You've got a whole bunch of helpful links in your welcome template; please go through them, read them, and understand them. MSJapan (talk) 23:50, 25 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Reply-@MSJapan: I understand the suspicion, but I'm merely temporarily focused on a subject I'm passionate about that initially drew me to Wikipedia. However, I agree some edits have been against policy (honest mistakes), and will proceed with caution. I would appreciate that you help me as to avoid future problems, so please do so with the following. Redirecting the article was done at a mod's recommendation (alternative to deletion). The most recent edit points to the "crystal ball" rule which seems to be about article topics rather than info box entries, and that particular entry (the newest album with the year of release) is knowledge common to even the least attentive of Nikki fans and thus shouldn't really fall under "speculation" (like the Olympics example per WP:CRYSTAL). Are you arguing from more of a "notability" side? (in which case, I don't really agree but I'll take your word for it.) Would the release itself satisfy that requirement or would an entire article from a secondary source be necessary. I get that we need to keep from writing promotional/news articles but it also seems silly not to include new and easily verifiable information simply because of the medium of the source. Thanks for your patience.

WP:RELIABLESOURCESINSTAGRAM - Discussion I had prior to the edits I began making. Me00lmeals (talk) 04:29, 26 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
When an AfD starts, any alternative to deletion is carried out according to the consensus of the discussion. A single opinion isn't good enough. As far as I am concerned, WP:CRYSTAL applies to everything. I'd also note that a response to your Instagram RS question was that the artist is only reliable to "say that she said" which doesn't sound all that useful or precise for an encyclopedia, does it?
As far as the rest of it goes, existence is not notability. We are not here to be a current events news source, which means trying to write about things right away is half the problem you're running into, because you're starting from the premise and then trying to find evidence that isn't there. The album isn't notable because of the artist - the album is notable because of the album. If it charts, OK, but it's not going to do that immediately on release. If it gets a lot of reviews, great. Again, reviews aren't going to happen right away. Case in point - Detox_(album). There was a lot of hype, it was going to come out, there were giveaways for it, etc. It's now only notable for hype. So what happens if the album doesn't drop when somebody claims it should? What if it's delayed until 2017? You don't know anything for sure until it's out.
