Disambiguation link notification for March 31[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Alberta general election, 2015, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Green Party of Alberta. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Survey Invite[edit]

I'm working on a study of political motivations and how they effect editing. I'd like to ask you to take a survey. The survey should take 5 minutes. Your survey responses will be kept private. Our project is documented at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Research:Wikipedia_%2B_Politics.

Survey Link: http://uchicago.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_80J3UDCpLnKyWTH?Q_DL=6ybvGHdBVVUDi1D_80J3UDCpLnKyWTH_MLRP_9LXOHYUxUoPlRE9&Q_CHL=gl

I am asking you to participate in this study because you are a frequent editor of pages on Wikipedia that are of political interest. We would like to learn about your experiences in dealing with editors of different political orientations.

Sincere thanks for your help! Porteclefs (talk) 15:32, 6 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

April 2018[edit]

Information icon Hello Madg2011. Thanks for patrolling new pages – it's a very important task! I'm just letting you know, however, that there is consensus that we shouldn't tag pages as lacking context (CSD A1) and/or content (CSD A3) moments after they are created, as you did at Molana Ilyas Attar Qadri. It's usually best to wait at least 10–15 minutes for more content to be added if the page is very short, and the articles should not be marked as patrolled. Tagging such pages in a very short space of time may drive away well-meaning contributors, which is not good for Wikipedia. Attack pages (G10), blatant nonsense (G1), copyright violations (G12) and pure vandalism/blatant hoaxes (G3) should of course still be tagged and deleted immediately. In addition, if you see an "article" containing only a single link to another Wikipedia article in the future, the author probably intended to create a redirect but did not know how; if the titles of both articles look similar, fix the redirect rather than tagging it for speedy deletion. VIA Rail 2019 Edits[edit]

Hi there,

I recently noticed you removed many of my edits to VIA Rail Canada's Accidents and Incidents section. You noted that they are becoming to numerous to note specifically. I might recommend creating a new page called "List of VIA Rail Canada Accidents and Incidents," similar to pages that already exist for many airlines and major transportation companies. Considering that over half a dozen have occured in the last month (including several fatal incidents), I would be happy to help maintain such a page. In the future, I would dissuade you from simply removing a large amount of content that is technically relevant to a heading. Please allow for discussion of its relevance. The content had not been marked as inappropriate prior to its deletion.

Please let me know what you think of creating such a page. I would be happy to do so as I have created many pages in the past, but if you feel you have a greater understanding of it feel free to do so. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cjstepney (talk • contribs) 03:14, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Cjstepney, I think such a page would be a good addition. I have no problem with the information being recorded somewhere. However, as I think you've accurately pointed out in your comment, tens of incidents occur every year and even fatal pedestrian collisions are unfortunately common. If we tried to record all of those on the main Via article, it would get far too long (side note - it already is far too long - cutting down History is next on my list). Perhaps there should be a consensus developed that incidents with a certain threshold of fatalities/damage qualify for inclusion on the main page. As for deleting info without discussion, I always do so in the spirit of WP:BOLD and it leading to constructive discussion like this is the perfect outcome. Cheers, Madg2011 (talk) 03:43, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the quick answer. While I can't make a rule out of nowhere, I would recommend a threshold of two fatalities (as it would eliminate almost all pedestrian incidents) or severe derailment (without a good definition). With the history section, VIA Rail does have quite a colourful and diverse history. Though my viewpoint is clearly skewed as I am passionate about it, I feel that its history should be recorded as, to this date, there is no concise central collection of information on VIA Rail's past. The VIA website is horribly deficient (and unwilling to divulge its own collapse), most books are mediocre at best, and a lot of the information out there is available only in bits and pieces. Other transportation companies with long and varied histories do have history pages, notably airlines. Would such a page be justified for VIA Rail Canada in your opinion? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cjstepney (talk • contribs) 00:22, 23 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Twitter isn't an appropriate source for Wikipedia content. What we need to find to source something like that is real media, not a tweet. Bearcat (talk) 04:04, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Candidates of the 2021 Canadian federal election[edit]

@Asclepias: Thanks. When I removed the wikilink previously there was zero information online about his candidacy other than the EC registration - no social media, not on the candidates page, etc. I suspected it was the same person but thought it best to wait to confirm.
