Full-time umpires

Hi, quick question about your change/revert of Template:Major League Baseball Umpires navbox; you noted None of these are full-time MLB umpires – what source provides that info? When I review MLB's list (http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/official_info/umpires/roster.jsp) there's no distinction made.... Thanks. Dmoore5556 (talk) 18:15, 3 September 2017 (UTC)

Close Call Sports provides that information. The umpires are in question are AAA umpires who fill in for the full-time MLB umpires when necessary (e.g. vacation, injury, suspension). Lepricavark (talk) 18:18, 3 September 2017 (UTC)
Got it, thanks. I'll add a note to that effect on the template's Talk page Dmoore5556 (talk) 18:39, 3 September 2017 (UTC)
No problem. And thank you for your hard work in creating these articles. Lepricavark (talk) 18:48, 3 September 2017 (UTC)

Thanks!

Hi Lepricavark, thank you for your comments at my RfA. Your support is much appreciated! Cheers, ansh666 19:16, 22 September 2017 (UTC)

Reverting closures

Please see this edit by an administrator, which reinforces the closure for that sub-discussion. Your disagreement with established policy is not grounds to reopen a conversation or to disrupt. — nihlus kryik  (talk) 06:13, 26 September 2017 (UTC)

Actually till Bish appeared it was a two vs three ( You and Drmies vs. Lepricavark, Green and Mandruss) on the two sides of the court. What made you assume that while your close was perfectly Ok, them undoing it was disruptive?Winged Blades Godric 10:01, 26 September 2017 (UTC)
It was only a matter of time before you threw yourself into another situation to stir the pot. It's not a vote. The only thing that matters is the argument presented, and Drmies' and Bishonen's (i.e. two admins) remarks reaffirm my closure (as does established policy). — nihlus kryik  (talk) 10:13, 26 September 2017 (UTC)
I do not feel that your closure was appropriate (notably, Bishonen referred to it as a non-starter for a non-admin in the current atmosphere, even if Bish did agree with your rationale). I also object to your reinsertion of your own closure after it had been reverted. At any rate, my talk page is not a forum for two editors to hold an argument completely unrelated to me, so please do not make personal comments about Godric here. Lepricavark (talk) 14:27, 26 September 2017 (UTC)
  • I think Nihlus's point is rather that an admin endorsed their closure. So yeah, undoing that is disruptive, Lepricavark, and that is all there is to it. Drmies (talk) 18:16, 26 September 2017 (UTC)
  • Point taken, although I am a little disappointed that you endorsed his out-of-process, ill-advised close. Lepricavark (talk) 18:22, 26 September 2017 (UTC)
  • I don't know if it was so ill-advised, though it certainly raised a few eyebrows. Maybe it was. But I tell you what, next time I'll add a note, with a stamp of approval or something like that. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 18:29, 26 September 2017 (UTC)
  • That's fair. I doubt I would ever revert one of your noticeboard closures, regardless of whether I liked or agreed with it. I don't always agree with your positions, but I still hold you in high regard. Lepricavark (talk) 18:31, 26 September 2017 (UTC)

Thank you for making sense, its refreshing to see. I don't personally want to touch that thread (or really, AN/I) again though. The whole situation is "surreal" -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 14:58, 9 October 2017 (UTC)
Thank you very much. I hope you won't take that thread too personally. You're a fine admin, and I trust that most of the participants realize that fact. Lepricavark (talk) 15:43, 9 October 2017 (UTC)

Information icon Hello. I noticed that you made a comment that didn't seem very civil. Wikipedia is built on collaboration, so it's one of our core principles to interact with one another in a polite and respectful manner. (((User:The Quixotic Potato))) (talk) 06:04, 10 October 2017 (UTC)

@The Quixotic Potato: Explain yourself. Lepricavark (talk) 15:00, 10 October 2017 (UTC)
Which part of the message was unclear to you? (((The Quixotic Potato))) (talk) 15:02, 10 October 2017 (UTC)
All of it. Besides, if you forgave me for my allegedly uncivil comment(s), as you patronizingly informed me at ANI, you should not be templating me on my talk page three days later. Lepricavark (talk) 15:04, 10 October 2017 (UTC)
You may be able to find someone else who can explain to you why you shouldn't leave uncivil comments online. I don't think I can help you. (((The Quixotic Potato))) (talk) 15:22, 10 October 2017 (UTC)
Actually, no. I don't want an explanation, patronizing or otherwise, for why I should not leave uncivil comments online. I want you to actually substantiate the accusation, and I'm going to give you a little while longer to do so if you don't want to end up back at ANI. It's one thing for you to come off your block having learned nothing, which is clearly the case, but it's an entirely different matter when you come on my talk page to harass me. Lepricavark (talk) 15:28, 10 October 2017 (UTC)
  • I've blocked TQP for this unsubstantiated allegation. Coming off a block and continuing the behaviour you were blocked for is always a sign that the initial block should have been longer. Sorry you were bothered by this. --John (talk) 08:28, 11 October 2017 (UTC)
  • Thank you. I was surprised that TQP kept it up after the first block, but hopefully after this one he'll let it go and returning to being a productive editor. Lepricavark (talk) 15:27, 11 October 2017 (UTC)

TBAN Appeal

Lepricavark, the thread Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive966#Repetitive accusations of antisemitism and homophobia, and threats and personal attacks by XIIIfromTokyo was finally closed with only a warning to the other user, and a TBAN, but for both of us, without any consensus mentioned (even if a TBAN requires it). Since it seems you are the only one that took originally the time to actually understand my claim and formulate an opinion on it (I thank you for this), I wonder if you could look at the appeal I wrote and give your opinion there too. Note that it is not about the LTA any more, but about my TBAN. Thanks, --Launebee (talk) 13:39, 22 October 2017 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but I don't really think it would do much good for me to sort through all of the evidence at this point. I'd recommend that you let the issue go for the time being. I know that's not an easy thing to do, but I don't think it is in your best interest to further pursue the matter. Lepricavark (talk) 17:38, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

Your unwanted & insulting Email

Stop harassing me. No more insulting personal Emails that make your weak ego feel better. I want nothing to do with you. Quit badgering me on public boards (RfA, ANI) also. Beat it. --IHTS (talk) 15:28, 28 October 2017 (UTC)

My email was not insulting. On the contrary, "unwanted and insulting" would be a far more accurate description of your attacks on me on Joe's talk page. If you want nothing to do with me, you probably shouldn't discuss me behind my back. That's cowardice. It's also amusing that you come to my page to shout at me and then tell me to beat it. I don't know who you think you are, but you most certainly aren't. I will honor your request and refrain from emailing you or posting anything other than required notifications on your talk page in the future (hopefully that won't ever be necessary). I expect that you will refrain from backstabbing me in the future. Given your failure to refrain from lying about me, you should probably just stop talking about me altogether. Lepricavark (talk) 01:30, 29 October 2017 (UTC)
In the Email you accused me of dishonesty, fucker. --IHTS (talk) 01:32, 29 October 2017 (UTC)
If the shoe fits, wear it instead of throwing it back at me. Lepricavark (talk) 01:38, 29 October 2017 (UTC)
First be polite and please don't use harassing words. Try to seek help from an admin about this matter. Frequent personal attacks may lead to permanent block. Thanks—Big Hero 01:44, 29 October 2017 (UTC)
If I wanted to get an admin involved, I would have done so by now. Much as IHTS and I dislike each other, IHTS is still a good content editor and I'm not going to consume very valuable time litigating this at ANI. Both IHTS and myself are well aware of how things work around here. I also find it extremely odd that you randomly appeared during this argument after an absence of several months. Lepricavark (talk) 01:53, 29 October 2017 (UTC)

J. J. Watt

I restored the "J. J." in the lede for the article; common hypocorism is something like "Bill" for "William" or "Bob" for "Robert". I don't believe initials qualify as a common hypocorism. Regards, Tarl N. (discuss) 05:46, 1 November 2017 (UTC)

The last sentence of Hypocorism#English would indicate otherwise, but I'm not going to revert you. It might have been better to take it to the talk page before reverting me. Lepricavark (talk) 14:36, 1 November 2017 (UTC)
Per WP:BRD, the disputed content should be restored while the discussion takes place. I've self-reverted - I wasn't aware of that last sentence, just the list of names with hypocorisms. It's certainly debatable in this case; the article name itself with his initials does make the quoted initials redundant. The counter argument is that the use of initials is not predictable from the name - a guess at the diminutive used for his name would have been a variant on his middle name, given there aren't any common diminutives for "Justin". Regards, Tarl N. (discuss) 20:28, 1 November 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for self-reverting. I apologize for being edgy in my first response. I see your point and I don't have any strong feeling either way. Lepricavark (talk) 20:53, 1 November 2017 (UTC)

DYK for Dusty Allen

On 9 December 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Dusty Allen, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Dusty Allen hit a home run in his final Major League Baseball at-bat? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Dusty Allen. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Dusty Allen), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

"Trophies won by school"

A few months ago I removed many "Trophies won by school" sections from college football awards articles because they seem crufty (for example, you wouldn't see such a list for an NFL award) and are never sourced. I'd be willing to change my opinion though if you think otherwise. Just wanted to let you know before you started adding any back. Lizard (talk) 17:03, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

Well, I'm most of the way done compiling one for the Maxwell Award, which is pretty comparable to the Heisman Trophy (which has such a list). I think if we have one for the Heisman, it's reasonable to have one for the Maxwell. I won't make lists for any of the other awards, however. I don't think the analogy with the NFL completely fits, since the college awards are definitely a much bigger deal for both the individual and the school. At least, that's my perception. Lepricavark (talk) 17:13, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
In that case I'd say the Walter Camp Award could have it as well. Those are the big 3 of college football player of the year awards. Lizard (talk) 18:01, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
Hmmm... sounds reasonable, although I'm not feeling motivated to put together yet another list. Lepricavark (talk) 19:58, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
Fortunately you can just copy the list from this revision of the article. You probably could've done that for the Maxwell as well. Lizard (talk) 23:35, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays
From Stave one of Dickens A Christmas Carol

Old Marley was as dead as a door-nail. Mind! I don’t mean to say that I know, of my own knowledge, what there is particularly dead about a door-nail. I might have been inclined, myself, to regard a coffin-nail as the deadest piece of ironmongery in the trade. But the wisdom of our ancestors is in the simile; and my unhallowed hands shall not disturb it, or the Country’s done for. You will therefore permit me to repeat, emphatically, that Marley was as dead as a door-nail.

So you see even Charles was looking for a reliable source :-) Thank you for your contributions to the 'pedia. ~ MarnetteD|Talk 23:21, 24 December 2017 (UTC)

sorry

Look, we obviously have differing opinions. Yes i may have simplified Eds rationale but why get all angry at me, cast aspertions etc. Then i felt attacked and responded... But anyway, i want to apologize to you for... whatever even happened there between us. We both obviously have strong opinions, we don't have to agree with one another but we should't be acting like children either (really hope i don't insult you further by saying that, really not my intention). So, let's just forget about the disagreement. It has nothing to do with the nomination and discussion there and helps no one. So i thought i reach out to you, say sorry about the things i said and hope you see where i am coming from here. I am learning, have been lurking for a long time even but never had an account. If i say something wrong, please just point me towards whatever you think i did wrong. Otherwise i can never learn. We all make mistakes in the end, what one can take away from them is what matters though. And if i get belittled instead of a helpful pointer towards what i did wrong... whatever. Really hope i don't bother you with this, i just genuinly hope that it could be put to rest by me apologizing to you. Have a good day anyway, sorry for my ramblings and bothering you here. 91.49.74.40 (talk) 21:57, 9 January 2018 (UTC)

I accept your apology and I apologize for my harsh tone in my responses to you. Sometimes I get a little grumpy and I really should know better. Lepricavark (talk) 22:06, 9 January 2018 (UTC)
Ah whatever, it's fine. I am quite stubborn and argumentative myself, haha. Glad this turned out this way anyway, seems we may be grumpy at times but still adults. I struck my last response to you as well, hope i did that ok, first time i struck a comment. Have a good day and no hard feelings on my part anyway. 91.49.74.40 (talk) 22:11, 9 January 2018 (UTC)

Dear Lepricavark, you added some text to the talk-section of the article and i do not understand, whether i have to do something or it is just an information? Could you please help me to understand? Kind regards, --Gyanda (talk) 23:43, 12 January 2018 (UTC)

You won't need to do anything. The text I added has to do with causing the article to be sorted by last name in Wikiproject categories. Happy editing, Lepricavark (talk) 00:03, 13 January 2018 (UTC)

Reverting unblock request

Could you leave the unblock request alone on User talk:HappenstanceLink? Another admin will come by and deny it (and likely revoke talk page access as well). It's a valid request, so no need to revert it. RickinBaltimore (talk) 21:36, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

Sure, I was planning to stop reverting now that I'd made three reverts. I'd like to believe that whomever is behind that account isn't dumb enough to believe their unblock request will be given even a modicum of consideration, but you never know. Lepricavark (talk) 21:38, 30 January 2018 (UTC)
Floq's blocked their LTA, and I agree with you, but just like to have it done "by the book". RickinBaltimore (talk) 21:40, 30 January 2018 (UTC)
Yeah, I understand. Lepricavark (talk) 21:42, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

WikiProject American football

Lepricavark, biography articles for anyone who played or coached college football belong under the preview of Wikipedia:WikiProject College football, not Wikipedia:WikiProject American football. The same goes for Wikipedia:WikiProject National Football League. See my edit at Talk:Walt Bell. Thanks, Jweiss11 (talk) 17:35, 12 March 2018 (UTC)

Noted. Thanks for the clarification. Lepricavark (talk) 18:19, 12 March 2018 (UTC)

WP:LISTAS

First of all, thank you for all your hard work. As I create a lot of articles and had never bothered to even read up on the WP:LISTAS parameter, I didn't create it when I set up talk pages. Hence, you show up on my watchlist a lot!

So I've now had a read (and from here on in, I shall not add to the backlog). I've always suspected two things:

  • Listas is probably no different to DEFAULTSORT
  • If correct, it should be rather easy to automate this task than do it by hand.

With the first point confirmed, it didn't take me long to discover that a bot has been written to tackle the second task: User:ListasBot Its owner has written an "about page" about the bot and its history. I don't know how you go about filling out the missing parameter, but if you are doing it by hand, why not have a chat with Mikaey and see whether you can team up. Having now read up how this all works, I note that diacritics shouldn't be used but you do include them. Anyway, I thought I'd pass my thoughts on and while I'm at it express my appreciation of you doing the hard yards. Schwede66 17:33, 12 March 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for the kind words. I was not aware that there was such a bot, although I notice that it hasn't been used since 2010. I know very little about how bots work, but I'll drop Mikaey a line and see what happens. Thanks for the information, and the note about diacritics. Lepricavark (talk) 18:23, 12 March 2018 (UTC)

Invitation to WikiProject Portals

The Portals WikiProject has been rebooted.

You are invited to join, and participate in the effort to revitalize and improve the Portal system and all the portals in it.

There are sections on the WikiProject page dedicated to tasks (including WikiGnome tasks too), and areas on the talk page for discussing the improvement and automation of the various features of portals.

Many complaints have been lodged in the RfC to delete all portals, pointing out their various problems. They say that many portals are not maintained, or have fallen out of date, are useless, etc. Many of the !votes indicate that the editors who posted them simply don't believe in the potential of portals anymore.

It's time to change all that. Let's give them reasons to believe in portals, by revitalizing them.

The best response to a deletion nomination is to fix the page that was nominated. The further underway the effort is to improve portals by the time the RfC has run its course, the more of the reasons against portals will no longer apply. RfCs typically run 30 days. There are 19 days left in this one. Let's see how many portals we can update and improve before the RfC is closed, and beyond.

A healthy WikiProject dedicated to supporting and maintaining portals may be the strongest argument of all not to delete.

We may even surprise ourselves and exceed all expectations. Who knows what we will be able to accomplish in what may become the biggest Wikicollaboration in years.

Let's do this.

See ya at the WikiProject!

Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   10:22, 21 April 2018 (UTC)
