Hello[edit]

I see that you're relatively new here and that you seem conscientious, so I thought I'd say hello and turn the "talk" icon from red to blue. Also, I've left a reply to your comment on the Talk: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker page. Ashnard talk 21:26, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Woops! I checked and you're not so new, well, at least I turned your "Talk" from red to blue. Ashnard talk 08:54, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Tower of Babel (Brueghel) and Civ III[edit]

Hello, I noticed that you commented in Talk:The Tower of Babel (Brueghel) about the Civilization III reference. Trivia sections are discouraged in Wikipedia articles, so I was hoping to integrate this section into the article a little better. Do you know anything about why or how this picture was chosen as a model for the games artwork? Who did the game art and how closely did they copy the painting? Do you know where we can find citations for this fact? I'd rather integrate the information that delete it, and would appreciate any help or suggestions. Thanks. Hi. Dennis actually did make landfall in Florida, since it hit the Panhandle. Titoxd(?!? - cool stuff) 18:44, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

But the picture is of the hurricane above Mississippi/Alabama. So I suppose the picture is taken after landfall. IronMaidenRocks (talk) 00:41, 16 June 2010 (UTC)--[reply]

Template db-author[edit]

I noticed you placed "Delete this" on a page you created by mistake, so I placed a {{db-author}} template on it, this will categorize the page as a deletion request by the author and makes it possible for an admin to find it and delete it. Just dropped by to tell you this, cheers, jonkerz 06:23, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I was mostly being lazy, but I didn't know that template existed. Thanks for that. --IronMaidenRocks (talk) 21:16, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to thank you for your edits, but really it's just an excuse to say awesome username!. Brutal Deluxe (talk) 15:48, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

FYI, regarding the Mountain Meadows Massacre[edit]

Regarding my reverting you at Mountain Meadows massacre and your restoring the edit at [1], you may be right, the monument may have been destroyed in 59, and rebuilt in 64. However, the source used for that sentence says 1859. However, with your change, the article is violating academic standards. It currently states a fact and backs it up with a source. However, the source says no such thing. Please do not simply start a revert war. There are a couple of ways to resolve this, the easiest way is to find a reliable source that says the monument was completely destroyed and rebuilt in 1864, and change the sourcing of that sentence to the new source. Regards Dave (talk) 19:50, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK, what I did is replace "1864 cairn" with "U.S. Army's cairn". This way the sentence is correct, and still agrees with the sources used to source it. Please advise if this is acceptable to you. Dave (talk)
Sounds good! Thanks. However, perhaps we should steer clear of sources that make such an incorrect statement. I think most of this confusion comes from the fact that the more recent monuments do not reference the 1864 rebuild. --IronMaidenRocks (talk) 18:16, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

TCMI Project update[edit]

Hello! While I know that you weren't able to attend the Backstage Pass, I wanted to pass along some resources and links from the day. You can see that images from the day are being added to the Children's Museum of Indianapolis category in Commons. Note that there is a separate category of images of us from the day (rather than objects). We also received a little press on both the Children's Museum blog: The Wikipedians are Coming! and the Wikipedia Signpost had the event as their lead story last week. I will be continuing to work on organizing TCMI research content and moving forward with the content donation in the coming months. I will probably have an announcement about the content donation sometime around February, and I could certainly use your help in spreading the word at that point. In the meantime, do let me know on the project requests page if you are interested in working on a TCMI-related article and would like to be connected with a curator. Thanks! Spring Children's Museum backstage pass?[edit]

Hello!
I wanted to touch base and let you know that, as part of the ongoing project with Wikipedia, The Children's Museum of Indianapolis is considering a second Backstage Pass Event this spring, likely to be held in April. Since you were interested previously but were unable to attend, I wanted to feel out if a Saturday event would work for you this coming April? Thanks for helping us gauge interest! Things are moving along with the image donation and there should be more press soon to share as things move forward. Thanks again for your interest! Anthropogenics[edit]

Hi Iron Maiden,

Thank you for letting me know that you re-split Anthropogenic off from Anthropization. Having looked into the matter more thoroughly, I agree; anthropization is simply one form of anthropogenics. Since it now has its own article, I have suggested that Anthropogenic be moved to Anthropogenics. Feel free to comment as you see fit.

Misconceptions[edit]

IMR, you were out of line removing the inclusion criteria, especially since there has been discussion with no consensus to do so. For now I'll assume good faith, but I'll ask you not to do something like that again without consensus. Thanks. Cresix (talk) 19:41, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Its not encyclopedic to be in the header. Did you read the edit summary? It doesn't like you assumed my edit was in good faith: From the use of words, I would more assume that you made a verbal threat or warning. --IronMaidenRocks (talk) 21:45, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I read your edit summary. When disputed information is under discussion or no consensus was reached to remove, it is entirely inappropriate to remove it without consensus, which is exactly what you did. Your proclamation that it is "unencyclopedic" does not make it so. You were repeatedly asked in the discussion to explain your argument that the guidelines are "unencylopedic" or a policy violation, but you did not despite a rather detailed challenge to your comments by Lexein (talk · contribs), which you basically ignored. Instead, you proceeded to remove the guidelines as if your ideas had never been challenged and as if you had consensus to do so.
A "verbal threat" would occur if I told you I was planning to take some action against you, which I did not. My comments above were intended to let you know that you took an inappropriate action. If you want to consider my above comments a "warning" not to remove disputed information under discussion without consensus, then it is a warning, but I did not "threaten" to take any action. If I hadn't assumed good faith, I would immediately have gone to ANI about it, but I did not because that was not warranted.
I could conclude that your question to me "Did you read the edit summary?" is condescending and not in good faith, but I am not interpeting it that way. Assuming good faith has its limits, but you have not reached that limit. Thanks for your reply. Cresix (talk) 23:10, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
There was no discussion about removing the text in the header. Removing it is called "being bold". If I had undone your RV, that would be a violation. I said "threat or warning" and your text was certainly a warning that I found unwarranted and somewhat offensive. Its no big deal to me, I hope you feel the same way. Everyone gets upset or misinterprets the actions of others from time to time, and I think we both misinterpreted each others actions. I think you are assuming a tone around my question "Did you read the edit summary?" It was not meant as a challenge to you of any kind. I'm not sure what challenge by User:Lexein you're referring to, but I assume that he made his comments after my edit. If there was discussion I didn't see it, I apologize. I really didn't think I was making an edit against the wishes of other users. --IronMaidenRocks (talk) 23:38, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
A scan of the talk page shows that I shared no dialogue with User:Lexein. Also, it is unencyclopedic to address editors from within an article, I made the edit as "unencyclopedic" on that basis. I don't care about you going to the ANI, but the words you're using seem to assume that I should have guilt over some sort of violation. That's what offends me. "Good faith" - to me - means more than not reporting each other, it means treating each other with a measure of respect. --IronMaidenRocks (talk) 23:48, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I never said I was going to ANI. And again, your pronouncement that something is "unencyclopedic" does not make it unencyclopedic. I could claim that using the word "hippopotamus" on Wikipedia is unencyclopedic, but that doesn't make it so. And there most certainly was discussion of including the criteria in the lead: Talk:List of common misconceptions#Attempt to draft list criteria that meet WP:N WP:IINFO WP:LIST WP:OR. "Being bold" does not include removing information under discussion without consensus. Apology accepted. Thank you.
"I think you are assuming a tone ...": As have you, suggesting that I made a verbal threat when I clearly didn't. That's a very clear "tone".
As far as I'm concerned, you removed the criteria in good faith and didn't realize it had been discussed. That was all that I was trying to let you know in my original message above. If you don't continue doing such things (especially if they have been explained), and I certainly don't anticipate that you will, we don't have a problem. Have a good day. Cresix (talk) 00:56, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Children's Museum Update[edit]

Hello!
I wanted to give you an update on the Children's Museum Wikipedia collaboration. You can check out my brief overview in the Children's Museum blog, which includes details on the Apprentice Program project to create five new Wikipedia articles as well as the image donation and use of the new Wikipedia Widget to link the museum's website to Wikipedia.

Last month we completed our first museum image content donation of 30 images. While this seems to be a low number, what makes the donation unique is the curatorial involvement in choosing and vetting the images for their appropriateness and usefulness within Wikimedia (many of the objects are copyrighted toys and other works that have copyright restrictions.) The curators in the collections department were very hands-on in their involvement, and we'll be outlining this process in an upcoming case study. If you would like to help further this process, I'd be happy for you to help disperse the images into useful Wikipedia articles, or let the appropriate WikiProjects know of the new images. Another 30 will be uploaded in the coming month.

In addition to the collaboration with the Museum Apprentice Program students and the curatorial department, another important collaboration was between User:Ealdgyth and the American Collections curators to significantly update the Broad Ripple Park Carousel article. After an impressive amount of time and work, the article has now received Featured Article status. The museum is absolutely thrilled and will now be adding a QR code to the carousel exhibit Carousel: Wishes and Dreams. In the future, more QR codes will be added to the objects that have had articles written by the MAP students. We're excited by the success of this collaboration & will also be writing a case study on the process.

There is now a recurring Indianapolis Update on the newly minted GLAM Newsletter. If you'd like to subscribe to the GLAM newsletter, you can do so here. Thanks! And let me know if you have any questions! HstryQT (talk) 17:46, 19 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Next Children's Museum Backstage Pass[edit]

Hello! I wanted to personally invite you to The Children's Museum of Indianapolis' 2nd Backstage Pass and Edit-a-Thon, which will occur on Saturday, August 20. The Wikipedian in Residence project is coming up on one year and is going strong. While the first year focused on garnering institutional enthusiasm among staff, organizing multiple content donations, and guiding teens in research and article creation, the next year will focus on establishing an E-Volunteer program and more deliberately connecting with local Wikipedians and WikiProjects around the world. You can read a summary of our projects on the museum's blog, or visit the project page.

We hope you're able to attend the upcoming Backstage Pass! If you're not able to attend, but are interested in remaining involved and up to date on the museum's Wikipedia project, please sign up on our E-Volunteer page. There will also be an opportunity to participate in the Edit-a-Thon online, if you cannot attend on-site. If you'd like to make a request for images or research content from our curators, you can add to the Requests page. Let me know if you have any questions and I hope to be in touch! LoriLee (talk) 11:38, 15 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your opinion is needed[edit]

Hello! The Children's Museum of Indianapolis is considering adapting a formal E-Volunteer program and they welcome your opinion as a Wikipedian. Your responses to this E-Volunteer survey will be extremely valuable. The survey will come to a close on October 1st. If you're interested, here are other ways you can help the Children's Museum's Wikipedia project. Thanks so much! LoriLee (talk) 20:03, 28 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Children's Museum update[edit]

Kit Cat Klock

It's time again to share the latest news on the Children's Museum of Indianapolis Wikipedia project! In the last few months we have been busy with our third image donation, which was made up of 150 images that were professionally photographed specifically for this upload. We are asking for volunteers to categorize these images and distribute them into Wikipedia articles. Your help is appreciated! Check them out here.

We have also donated our first video and a second GLAM-Wiki Infographic to Commons. In September we were thrilled to welcome Jimmy Wales to the museum. Following our successful Edit-a-Thon and Translate-a-Thon in August, translations have continued with the help of the established QRpedia community, (particularly Russian translations thanks to Lvova!) We have begun to analyze our implementation of QRpedia codes and completed an extensive case study. In November we presented at the Museum Computer Network conference about how museums can effectively collaborate with Wikipedia. You can see more details on the Prezi.

In more general news, in addition to serving as the Children's Museum's Wikipedian-in-Residence, it was recently announced that I will be taking on the role of US Cultural Partnerships Coordinator for the Wikimedia Foundation. In this role I will be working to streamline the process of connecting interested US GLAMs with the Wikipedia community. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to let me know. Be sure to sign up for This Month in GLAM to keep up with the latest GLAM-Wiki news from around the world (subscribe).

We have a listing of High Need and Moderate Need requests on the Ways to Help section on the project page. I encourage you to lend a hand if you're able. While the Children's Museum partnership continues to truck along, we still are in desperate need of volunteers to help disperse our images and update and maintain content. Thank you for your time and help. Happy holidays! LoriLee (talk) 16:45, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Article Name[edit]

Some time ago, you participated in Talk at an article which has been variously named Torture stake, Cross or stake as gibbet on which Jesus died, Historical disputes over the shape of the Crucifix, Dispute about the shape of the gibbet of Jesus, Dispute of Jesus' execution method, and Dispute about Jesus' execution method. Hello! There is a DR/N request you may have interest in.[edit]

This message is being sent to let you know of a discussion at the Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard regarding a content dispute discussion you may have participated in. Content disputes can hold up article development and make editing difficult for editors. You are not required to participate, but you are both invited and encouraged to help find a resolution. The thread is "Talk:Religious views of Adolf Hitler, User talk:Greengrounds". Please join us to help form a consensus. Thank you! EarwigBot operator / talk 04:50, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dispute filed at WP:DRN[edit]

Hello IronMaidenRocks. This message is to inform you that the ongoing content dispute at Religious views of Adolf Hitler has been filed at the Dispute Resolution Noticeboard. Please feel free to make your claim there, so independent third parties can evaluate the situation and suggest a course of action. Greengrounds, Ozhistory, and Hcc01 have also been notified of the filing, or will soon be notified. Thanks, Deadbeef 04:50, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

DRN needs your help![edit]

Hi there. I've noticed it's been a while since you've been active at DRN, and we could really use your help! DRN is going to undergo some changes soon, so it'd really be great if our backlog is cleared before the start of August and we have as many people on board to help with the changes (they include a move to subpages and the creation of a rotating "co-ordinator" role to help manage things day-to-day. Disambiguation link notification for August 28[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Isnardo Guarco, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Vezzano (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Translations[edit]

Please note that WP:TRANSLATION is the correct procedure for creating an article from another language Wikipedia - adding a bad machine translation is the worst possible thing you can do, it just adds a difficult to fix article to an already large backlog--Jac16888 Talk 17:40, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your involvement with DRN[edit]

Hi there, I noticed that you haven't been as active at DRN as you was before. DRN has been a bit backlogged lately and we could use some extra hands. We have updated our volunteer list to a new format, Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/Volunteers (your name is still there under the old format if you haven't updated it) and are looking into ways to make DRN more effective and more rewarding for volunteers (your input is appreciated!). If you don't have much time to volunteer at the moment, that's fine too, just move your name to the inactive list (you're free to add yourself back to active at any time). Hope to see you again soon :) Steven Zhang (talk) 13:19, 25 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

DRN needs assistance[edit]

You are receiving this message because you have listed yourself as a volunteer at the Dispute Resolution Noticeboard.

We have a backlog of cases there which need volunteer attention. If you have time available, please take one or more of these cases.

If you do not intend to take cases or help with the administration of DRN on a regular basis, or if you do not wish to receive further notices of this nature, please remove your username from the volunteer list. If you later decide to resume activities at DRN you may relist your name at that time.

Help needed at DRN[edit]

You are receiving this message because you are signed up as a volunteer at the Dispute Resolution Noticeboard. We have a number of pending requests which need a volunteer to address them. Unless you are an inexperienced volunteer who is currently just watching DRN to learn our processes, please take a case. If you do not see yourself taking cases in the foreseeable future, please remove yourself from the volunteer list so that we can have a better idea of the size of our pool of volunteers; if you do see yourself taking cases, please watchlist the DRN page and keep an eye out to see if there are cases which are ready for a volunteer. We have recently had to refuse a number of cases because they were listed for days with no volunteer willing to take them, despite there being almost 150 volunteers listed on the volunteer page. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Anything else I need to do for DRN help?[edit]

Thanks for volunteering to help resolve the edit conflict involving the article "David Lisak". I read your suggestions carefully and I hope I've complied with each one. Please let me know if there's anything more I can do. I need to restore the data deleted by Rosceles, but I would like to have more consensus to do so. I have one question. I think I've figured out why Rosceles is so focused on this and why she thinks Reason.com is against anti-rape activity (I don't agree with the politics of Reason mag, but it's a reputable enterprise.) I think to introduce this could be viewed as an ad hominem attack even though it may clear up what's going on, hence don't introduce it. Do you agree? Thanks! JCvP 05:22, 11 December 2015 (UTC)

Comment[edit]

You wrote, at DRN: "This dispute looks to have been enabled by a lack of respectful atmosphere on the article's talk page." Most of the recent disputes have that problem, disrespect and incivility. Robert McClenon (talk) 04:09, 18 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

DRN help needed and volunteer roll call[edit]

You are receiving this message because you have listed yourself on the list of volunteers at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/Volunteering#List of the DRN volunteers.

First, assistance is needed at DRN. We have recently closed a number of cases without any services being provided for lack of a volunteer willing to take the case. There are at least three cases awaiting a volunteer at this moment. Please consider taking one.

Second, this is a volunteer roll call. If you remain interested in helping at DRN and are willing to actively do so by taking at least one case (and seeing it through) or helping with administrative matters at least once per calendar month, please add your name to this roll call list. Individuals currently on the principal volunteer list who do not add their name on the roll call list will be removed from the principal volunteer list after June 30, 2016 unless the DRN Coordinator chooses to retain their name for the best interest of DRN or the encyclopedia. Individuals whose names are removed after June 30, 2016, should feel free to re-add their names to the principal volunteer list, but are respectfully requested not to do so unless they are willing to take part at DRN at least one time per month as noted above. No one is going to be monitoring to see if you live up to that commitment, but we respectfully ask that you either live up to it or remove your name from the principal volunteer list.

On "Topheth" and David Kimhi[edit]

Hey, I know this was about four years ago, so I totally understand if you don't have an answer, but I thought I'd check with you anyhow. There's a footnote you placed on Topheth where you attribute an etymology of Topheth to David Kimhi in Biblia Rabbinica. Since Biblia Rabbinica is huge and I can't only read Hebrew fairly slowly, do you have any idea where I'd go to find that exact fact in there? Thanks. Alephb (talk) 05:20, 28 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure. If I read it in Biblia Rabbinica myself, it's been too long. I might have read a quote of it or a citation from another reference work. I'd try to see if there's a searchable form of the book in English. --IronMaidenRocks (talk) 12:46, 28 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Dive! (restaurant) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Gamergate controversy discretionary sanctions alert[edit]

This message contains important information about an administrative situation on Wikipedia. It does not imply any misconduct regarding your own contributions to date.

Please carefully read this information:

The Arbitration Committee has authorised discretionary sanctions to be used for pages regarding all edits about, and all pages related to, (a) GamerGate, (b) any gender-related dispute or controversy, (c) people associated with (a) or (b), all broadly construed, a topic which you have edited. The Committee's decision is here.

Discretionary sanctions is a system of conduct regulation designed to minimize disruption to controversial topics. This means uninvolved administrators can impose sanctions for edits relating to the topic that do not adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, our standards of behavior, or relevant policies. Administrators may impose sanctions such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks. This message is to notify you that sanctions are authorised for the topic you are editing. Before continuing to edit this topic, please familiarise yourself with the discretionary sanctions system. Don't hesitate to contact me or another editor if you have any questions.
