University of Maryland[edit]

Is there a reason you are removing all the references to the University of Maryland and related medical cites, you give no edit summaries? Hardyplants (talk) 19:38, 8 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I wasn't trying to remove all references to University of Maryland, only the ones that are linking to pages that we no longer have on our website. They were all going to a page that said that that information is no longer available on umm.edu. I was tasked with trying to remove those inbound links that are causing issues. I apologize for any confusion or if I didn't do something correctly. talk) HealthyMd (talk) 20:22, 8 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

That is not how to do that, one can use: https://archive.org/web/ to correct links that point to old pages. To be unblocked you need to fill out the unblock request in the template down below. Also if you had communicated earlier it could have saved some time and grief. Hardyplants (talk) 20:37, 8 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize and appreciate you letting me know how to best proceed and handle instances like this in the future. I didn't see your messages, or I absolutely would have stopped immediately. Again, thank you for your help. I will fill out the form as you suggested. talk) HealthyMd

Information icon Hello, I'm Hardyplants. I noticed that you recently removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Request reason:

HealthyMd I apologize for the confusion. I am on the web team at University of Maryland Medical System and I was removing links to content that is no longer available on the UMMS website. I was removing broken links.HealthyMd (talk) 20:14, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

Accept reason:

I will remove the block. 331dot (talk) 21:27, 8 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Are you the only individual with access to this account? 331dot (talk) 20:48, 8 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

That is correct. There is a team of us, but I am the only one that handles anything dealing with Wikipedia. I am still new to this, so I apologize for not realizing I wasn't making edits properly. talkHealthyMd (talk) 20:56, 8 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm satisfied that your account is not compromised(the stated reason for the block). However, instead of simply removing the links they should be converted to web archive links pointing to archive dot org. Before unblocking you, however, you have a conflict of interest, and as you seem to be editing as part of your job duties you seem to meet the definition of a paid editor. Please review those policies for information on formal declarations you would be required to make(a paid declaration is required by the Terms of Use if you are paid), and explain how you would make edits related to the University going forward. 331dot (talk) 21:11, 8 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much for your help with this. I will start directing those links to archive dot org and will make sure to update so it is clear that I am a paid editor through my employer (University of Maryland Medical System). HealthyMd (talk) 21:20, 8 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Once you make the required declaration, it should not be a problem for you to merely change dead links to archived links yourself, but if you wish to make a more substantive edit related to your conflict of interest, you will need to do it as an edit request. 331dot (talk) 21:27, 8 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That makes complete sense. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain this all to me. --HealthyMd (talk) 21:36, 8 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
