Hi, Dpd esq, Welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope you like this place — I sure do — and want to stay. Before getting too in-depth, you may want to read about the Five pillars of Wikipedia and simplified ruleset. If you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the manual of style. If you need help look at Wikipedia:Help and the FAQ , plus if you can't find your answer there, check the Village Pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions)! There's still more help at the Tutorial and Policy Library. Plus, don't forget to visit the Community Portal. And if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my user talk page or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will be by to help you shortly.

Additional tips[edit]

Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the 'pedia!

  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes (~). If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. Five will get you the datestamp only.
  • You may want to add yourself to the new user log.
  • If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
  • If you're still entirely confused, or would like to get a better grasp of your wikipedia skills, and you have an IRC client (or don't mind getting one), check out the Bootcamp. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.
  • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random page button in the sidebar, or check out the Open Task message in the Community Portal.

Drew Pinsky[edit]

Hi. While Wikipedia welcomes and appreciates your contributions, we cannot accept original research, unsourced material, or material exhibiting an unattributed non-neutral point of view, such as these edits to Drew Pinksy, as the sources you cited did not support the material in question. Specifically, other Wikipedia articles cannot be cited as sources, as this is circular. In addition, the Ibogaine article makes no mention of Pinsky, nor does the documentary Ibogaine: Rite of Passage. Similarly, the Wired article makes no mention of Ibogaine, and its only mention of Pinsky is a single quote attributed to him about his views on 12-step programs, and no criticism of him by anyone, much less the ad hominem argument you included in your edit.

I also notice that this is not the first time you have done this, given this defamatory POV statement to Cheese-eating surrender monkeys, though this was a year and a half ago. Please remember to add only facts sourced to reliable sources when editing. Any opinions added to articles must be those attributed to people consider reliable authorities on the subject in question.

If you have any other questions about editing, just let me know by leaving a message for me in a new section at the bottom of my talk page. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 01:17, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Regarding the edit in which you stated in your edit summary, "prior edit was objected to by a Wiki editor with a lot of time on his/her hands", please be advised that insulting or attacking other editors with whom you disagree is not acceptable on Wikipedia. If you intend to continue editing here, some of the fundamental policies to keep in mind involve Civility, and that includes conduct during editorial disputes. Regardless of how much time you think I have, The Wired article does not contain any mention of "criticism" of Pinsky, and other Wikipedia articles may not be used as sources, because that would be circular sourcing. Wikipedia, after all, cannot cite itself. It needs independent sources that are considered reliable. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 02:53, 9 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I changed the edit because they did not conform to a number of Wikipedia policies, all of which I cited, and provided policy page links for. Was I not clear on why your edits violated those policies, repeatedly? Do you dispute this? Or do you simply feel that you're not required to follow Wikipedia's guidelines?
As for Arilicious, I explained to him in detail my reasons for my edits as well. When new editors are editing for the first time, one of the things they're going to experience is having their edits modified or undone, particularly if their edits don't conform to the site's rules. This is part of WP:BOLD. It is best to learn the site's policies, and edit according to them, seeking advice when necessary from more experienced users. If you can provide a valid, policy-based rationale why your additions to the Pinksy article should have remained, or why my rationale was not valid, then by all means, provide it, and I'll weigh it accordingly. I notice however, that you did not refute the rationale I provided in my edit summary or here on your talk page. Instead, you insulted me in your most recent edit summary, and restored the citation of the Wired article and the ibogaine Wikipedia article, even though I explained why they could not be used to support the material you added. Why is this? Nightscream (talk) 17:55, 9 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Dpd esq, please stop violating Wikipedia policy by adding unsourced material to articles, as you did once again with this edit to Drew Pinksy. Once more: The Wired article does not mention any "criticism" of him, and none of the other sources mention him at all. The fact that you keep adding this material strongly suggests that you may be doing so to express a personal opinion, which is not permitted on Wikipedia. If you continue to ignore these warnings, then you risk losing your editing privileges. Please do not make that necessary. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 09:14, 11 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

July 2010[edit]

Please do not attack other editors, as you did here: Drew Pinsky. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. tedder (talk) 20:29, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
