Identification[edit]

I notice that your username is the same as the internal University of Durham username of Sharon Richardson, the senior tutor of St. Cuthbert's Society. If you are indeed Mrs. Richardson, please post a note on your user page saying so. There is an obvious conflict of interest if you edit pages relating to the University and the Society, of which the editors of Wikipedia should be made aware. —Wereon (talk) 00:48, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for this Alex and yes, I am Mrs Richardson, Senior Tutor and college officer at St Cuthbert's Society.

St Cuthbert's Society[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia, and thanks for your contributions to the St Cuthbert's Society page. I'm guessing, if you are who your username suggests, that the information you provided is accurate. However, Wikipedia can't take information based on trust that editors are who they say they are (see the Essjay controversy for one of the reasons why this would be a bad idea!) For this reason, among others, Wikipedia has a strict policy of verifiability - all information added to Wikipedia should be taken from reliable sources, and unsourced information is subject to removal. Could you try to provide sources for the information you have added to the article? Books, newspaper articles, the University Calendar, or even the college website would be acceptable. If you don't add sources, then your information may be removed, and other editors won't be able to revert changes made to the information you have added (because we have no way to be sure that it's your information that is accurate rather than the altered information).

Thanks, TSP (talk) 15:36, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lists of Principals & Presidents[edit]

You will probably be aware that on several occasions various people have tried to add lists of past Principals and Presidents of Cuths to the wikipedia article. On each occasion they have been deleted (mainly by "Deiz" [[1]] ) on the grounds that such lists are not in accord with Wikipedia policy. The fact that Wikipedia articles on other Durham colleges - and the colleges of some other universities too - contain lists of Masters/Principals does not, in the view of Diez et al, "excuse" the lists here; and he has removed the lists when anyone has attempted to re-insert them.

There has been an on-going battle between those who insist on the letter of the Wikipedian law and those who would like to have this historic information recorded. But, as you can see on Diaz talk page - reference above, the likely outcome will be that the whole page may be locked if anyone else tries to insert these lists again. (I think the main reason is that the list of Presidents is so long that it drew attention to itself. A list just of past Principals would probably have slipped past without comment, but now even this would probably incur the wrath of some.)

One possible solution (if you are in a position to suggest this to the appropriate webmaster) would be to include these lists on the official university website for St Cuthberts. A reference to the page could then be inserted in the Wikipedia article. This would satisfy those who would like to preserve historic data not easily available elsewhere, and also those who insist (in my view over-officiously) on maintaining the letter of the Wikipedia law. Greetings, by the way, from a (very)old Cuthbertsman! John Hamilton (talk) 17:35, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lorenz Diefenbach[edit]

Dear Users,

I have noticed that Lorenz Diefenbach has recently changed my user information and I find this wholly unacceptable. This person has also produced damning videos about the University and St Cuthbert's Society which makes inappropriate references to Auschwitz. I believe he also tried to upload these to this site and, thankfully, was stopped by Wikipedia. Sharon Richardson, Senior Tutor, St Cuthbert's Society (dcb0sr).
