A cup of coffee for you!

Welcome to the mop corps, Clpo13. Your successful RFA's only the beginning; prepare to have to clean up after all the vandals and the hooligans and the messmakers! Before you start practicing your mop-fu skills, sit down and have a drink. A recent Lord Jimbo Decree has prohibited admins from drinking on the job, but coffee is fine. So, have some coffee! —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 17:32, 10 May 2017 (UTC)

Why was my Madison Spelling Bee page removed? Need assistance please.

Hello,

On Wednesday evening, a friend and myself established a new Madison All-City Spelling Bee page on Wikipedia.

Suddenly I see that you deleted my page...why?? I had wanted to spend the weekend filling in the blacks with the information and names of winners from 1949 to 2017 but now its gone...the link was this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Madison_All-City_Spelling_Bee

and I then wanted this Madison All-City Spelling Bee page then be connected/linked to the state spelling bee page we also created on Wednesday night, to be seen here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Badger_State_Spelling_Bee

Can you please, who ever you are, answer why the Madison spelling bee page was taken down by you before I had the chance this weekend to fill in the blanks for both pages on Wikipedia.

Thanks, and instead of using message system, email me directly with your answers and helpful information.

First day covers

I noticed you added ticket references to these 3 images: File:David Bowie Music Icons.jpg, File:Hornby cover.jpg and File:James Bond cover.jpg‎. Obviously I'm not sure yet what Buckingham Covers is going to provide OTRS with but I am pretty sure you are aware that Royal Mail stamps are covered by Crown copyright that lasts for 50 years and I very much doubt they can provide evidence that Royal Mail has relinquished those rights to a stamp dealer, allowing commercial and derivative use of their modern stamps. I also have concerns about the Hornby logo, the Thomas the Tank Engine stamp, and the background cover photo of the David Bowie envelope. I mention this because the uploader appears to be the website marketing assistant for the company (see: [11]) whose business is the sell first day covers like this, which is a conflict of interest and when I pointed this out on their talk page the uploader did not know about crown copyright. As a non-OTRS editor it is not my place to tell you your job but as a long time knowledgable philatelist I suggest a rather close review of any permission provided. New Page Review - Newsletter No.4

Hello Clpo13,

Since rolling out the right in November, just 6 months ago, we now have 816 reviewers, but the backlog is still mysteriously growing fast. If every reviewer did just 55 reviews, the 22,000 backlog would be gone, in a flash, schwoop, just like that!

But do remember: Rather than speed, quality and depth of patrolling and the use of correct CSD criteria are essential to good reviewing. Do not over-tag. Make use of the message feature to let the creator know about your maintenance tags. See the tutorial again HERE. Get help HERE.

Stay up to date with recent new page developments and have your say, read THIS PAGE.

Misguided blocking

You have blocked me at the complaint of user:Lugnuts for my "vandalism" of the Basil Thampi page. In fact, I am the aggrieved party. Cricketer Basil Thampi has won an award at the IPL 2017 final last night, shown on television, reported in every single Indian newspaper this morning. Yet, Lugnuts will not allow me to add one simple sentence saying that the award has been given to Thampi. This is not just a classic example of intimidation of IPs and sheer arrogance, but also violates several Wikipedia policies such as WP:OWN and WP:3RR. Your blocking me has clearly not worked, but you should block Lugnuts for violating WP:3RR. 59.182.181.221 (talk) 08:02, 22 May 2017 (UTC)

Maybe you should follow the advice given by me and Lugnuts and add a source. But it'd be wise to wait until the block is expired in 31 hours. clpo13(talk) 08:09, 22 May 2017 (UTC)
I am astonished that you blocked my second IP -- you can block this third also, if you think it worthwhile. But I want to bring something else to your notice. I have been trying to figure out why exactly Lugnuts is to this extent inimical to my very simple sentence being included on the Basil Thampi page. Especially when it would be a simple matter for him to add a source (any newspaper or news website, for instance this) and make that minor edit himself, instead of edit-warring to the extent of violating 3RR. I think I have it. I have had nothing to do in the past with Lugnuts, but from his edit history, he seems to be of Sri Lankan ethnicity, whereas Basil Thampi is of part-Tamil, part-Malyali ethnicity, hailing from the extreme south of India. The Sri Lankan Civil War page will tell you of the ethnic animus between the two groups over the past several decades. It is of course impossible to prove that Lugnuts is motivated by ethnic animus in wanting to keep out a sentence about Thampi's recent award, but is it proper to allow him Ownership of that page given this possibility? 59.182.158.184 (talk) 12:26, 22 May 2017 (UTC)
Clpo13 - this IP is still continuing to revert this by jumping from account to account. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 12:43, 22 May 2017 (UTC)
Thank you, IP, for providing a source. Finally. I have done your work for you and added it to the article. In future, please provide sources when you add material. And do not impugn other users, it is considered personal attacking. Thank you and have a pleasant day. --Ebyabe talk - Repel All Boarders ‖ 15:14, 22 May 2017 (UTC)

Why was List of Ukrainians of Russian ethnicity protected

Why did you protect List of Ukrainians of Russian ethnicity on the version that removes the whole list, instead of protecting it on this version?

[13]

?

Such pages exist for most significant minority groups, e.g. Lists of Irish Americans, Russian Jews, Italians in Britain, Arabs in Spain, etc. It's not racism, it's giving recognition to the presence of ethnic minorities in societies and the role they play.

And most important, Wikipedia support and encourage such pages. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.120.135.112 (talk) 07:06, 21 May 2017 (UTC)

The page was protected to prevent further disruption caused by reverting back and forth. If you disagree with the redirection that was done in November 2016, you should try to find consensus for a different outcome on the article talk page. clpo13(talk) 04:34, 22 May 2017 (UTC)

I've tried, I started a discussion on the talk page - ignored. So if some vandal decides to remove a whole page because it doesn't suit their POV and naturally ignores the talk page as he's not there to find a consensus, I should just ignore it? What I'm doing is protecting an article from being removed by a vandal, that's all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.90.76.213 (talk) 11:51, 28 May 2017 (UTC)

  • An RfC proposing an off-wiki LTA database has been closed. The proposal was broadly supported, with further discussion required regarding what to do with the existing LTA database and defining access requirements. Such a tool/database formed part of the Community health initiative's successful grant proposal.
  • Some clarifications have been made to the community banning and unblocking policies that effectively sync them with current practice. Specifically, the community has reached a consensus that when blocking a user at WP:AN or WP:ANI, it is considered a "community sanction", and administrators cannot unblock unilaterally if the user has not successfully appealed the sanction to the community.
  • An RfC regarding the bot policy has closed with changes to the section describing restrictions on cosmetic changes.

Maltese general election, 2017

Can you review the article Maltese general election, 2017 and see if any of my claims are correct? Thanks for tagging me for the claim made against me by an admin who clearly does not care of standards and NPOV. I have nothing against the editor but went too far and is supporting non-registered editors and their agenda. Just in case you tell me, I can abstain from editing that article as I have nothing to gain from it. You can view my edits and check that most are not related to political activity, and that some editors have been inserting bias in that which I tried to remove until furter court conclusions are made. Google about Malta and subject-related which is weitten in it. The Times of Malta is most neutral. Others are government or opposition media mainly. I need help reporting a possible edit war but I use the mobile version of the website and I don't understand how to do it. If I gave you the links could you do it for me? Dinah Kirkland (talk) 18:16, 9 June 2017 (UTC)

@Dinah Kirkland: I can certainly do that. clpo13(talk) 18:17, 9 June 2017 (UTC)

Thank you! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Mimiddu That is the user. For the page it was this;

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italian_profanity

My original edit was; cazzo (pl. cazzi) [ˈkattso]: Fuck or in some cases fucking. It is highly recommended that while in Italy its best not to say this.

It was changed to;

cazzo (pl. cazzi) [ˈkattso]: literally dick, cock, prick. Used in countless expressions to express a variety of feelings like anger, frustation or surpise in a similar way in which "fuck" and "Fucking" are used in English.

Which is incorrect. I reverted their edits once and they changed it back. I tried to discuss it on their userpage but they ignored me. Dinah Kirkland (talk) 18:21, 9 June 2017 (UTC)

It would be of great help if you did this. The change has gone from passive to offensive on that page. Well at least to me. Dinah Kirkland (talk) 18:55, 9 June 2017 (UTC)

@Dinah Kirkland: I've taken a look at the page. The dispute is a couple of days old now, so there's not really any action I can take at the moment. My advice to you would be to try your change again (making sure it's supported by sources, per WP:V). If it's disputed again, start a discussion on the talk page explaining your change so other editors of that page can chime in and hopefully come to a consensus about how it should be worded. By using the article talk page, you can reach more people than by posting on another user's talk page (though that's a good start and it's unfortunate that Mimiddu never responded). If that doesn't work, you can follow the steps at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution. I hope that helps. clpo13(talk) 19:03, 9 June 2017 (UTC)

Thank you! I will do that. Grazie (Thank you) Dinah Kirkland (talk) 19:06, 9 June 2017 (UTC)

The page was protected to prevent further edit warring. The discussion on the talk page hasn't been added to in a month and it doesn't look like there was ever consensus to remove material. I'd suggest reviving that discussion or seeking dispute resolution. clpo13(talk) 20:58, 9 June 2017 (UTC)

Invitation to Admin confidence survey

Hello,

Beginning in September 2017, the Wikimedia Foundation Anti-harassment tool team will be conducting a survey to gauge how well tools, training, and information exists to assist English Wikipedia administrators in recognizing and mitigating things like sockpuppetry, vandalism, and harassment.

The survey should only take 5 minutes, and your individual response will not be made public. This survey will be integral for our team to determine how to better support administrators.

To take the survey sign up here and we will send you a link to the form.

We really appreciate your input!

New users who attempt article creation will now be redirected to a newly designed landing page.

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a successful proposal to create it, a new user right called "edit filter helper" is now assignable and revocable by administrators. The right allows non-administrators to view the details of private edit filters, but not to edit them.
  • Following a discussion about mass-application of ECP and how the need for logging and other details of an evolving consensus may have been missed by some administrators, a rough guide to extended confirmed protection has been written. This information page describes how the extended-confirmed aspects of the protection policy are currently being applied by administrators.

Technical news

  • You can now search for IP ranges at Special:Contributions. Some log pages and Special:DeletedContributions are not yet supported. Wildcards (e.g. 192.168.0.*) are also not supported, but the popular contribsrange gadget will continue to work.

Arbitration

  • Community consultation on the 2017 candidates for CheckUser and Oversight has concluded. The Arbitration Committee will appoint successful candidates by October 11.
  • A request for comment is open regarding the structure, rules, and procedures of the December 2017 Arbitration Committee election, and how to resolve any issues not covered by existing rules.

New Page Reviewer Newsletter

Hello Clpo13, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 12,878 pages. We have worked hard to decrease from over 22,000, but more hard work is needed! Please consider reviewing even just a few pages a day.
  • We have successfully cleared the backlog of pages created by non-confirmed accounts before ACTRIAL. Thank you to everyone who participated in that drive.

Technology update:

  • Primefac has created a script that will assist in requesting revision deletion for copyright violations that are often found in new pages. For more information see User:Primefac/revdel.

General project update:
