Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, BarbieMuseum, may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because you have created the article Barbie Museum, suggesting that you have a conflict of interest. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may file for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account and use that for editing. Thank you. Mm40 (talk) 03:35, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reply: Thanks for the efficient editing regarding the Barbie Museum page. I do not believe there is a violation of the username. I am not sure how it would be a violation. The information posted on the Wikipedia page for Barbie Museum was taken directly from verifiable and reliable sources which is, in fact, the Barbie Museum (aka Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History). But, if there is a violation please let me know what that violation is so that the situation can be corrected. But, I have reviewed other pages on Wikipedia for museums and the wording on those pages is almost identical to the wording found on the website for those respective museums.

Also, I do not know what the conflict of interet is either but please let me know what it is. Again, everything stated on that page is truthfully veriable via others sources beyond the page on Wikipedia.

Again, I do appreciate your feedback.

On your username[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, the username you have chosen seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of a group, company or website.

There are two issues with this:

  1. You may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, you must exercise great caution when editing on topics related to your organization.
  2. Your account cannot represent a group of people. You may wish to create a new account with a username that represents only you. Alternatively, you may consider changing your username to avoid giving the impression that your personal account is being used for promotional purposes.

Regardless of whether you change your name or create a new account, you are not exempted from the policy to not edit in a conflict of interest. For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. In particular, you are not permitted to have a username that gives the impression that you represent a company or group. Timotheus Canens (talk) 04:16, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Your account has been blocked from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. You have violated one or more of our rules, including rules against adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, using Wikipedia for promotion, and editing inappropriately with a conflict of interest. This kind of activity is considered spamming and is forbidden by Wikipedia's policies. Although Wikipedia has a great many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, it is considered inappropriate for such groups to use Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See Wikipedia:FAQ/Organization for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. See Wikipedia:Conflict of interest for the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals here, you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} below this message box.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
See also Wikipedia:Appealing a block for more information. –Juliancolton | Talk 05:16, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
