Welcome![edit]

Although some prefer welcoming newcomers with cookies, I find fruit to be a healthier alternative.

Hello, Angelo Michael, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like this place and decide to stay.

What are the four general rules at Wikipedia?
The four general rules are to respect your fellow Wikipedians, remain neutral, cite your sources, and to ignore a rule if it prevents you from improving or maintaining Wikipedia.
How do I edit a page?
  1. Click 'Edit this page' or 'Edit' on the top of the page that you want to edit.
  2. Make your changes in the edit window.
  3. Preview your changes by clicking the 'Show preview' button.
  4. Click the 'Save page' button.
See Wikipedia:How to edit a page for more detailed information.
Why can't I edit some particular pages?
Some pages that have been vandalized repeatedly are semi-protected, meaning that editing by new or unregistered users is prohibited through technical measures. If you have an account that is four days old and has made at least 10 edits, then you can bypass semi-protection and edit any semi-protected page. Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them.
Where can I experiment with editing Wikipedia?
How do I create an article?
Please use the Article Wizard to create one, then add references to the article as explained below.
What are references, sources, and citations all about?
All claims must be supported by a book, website, or news organization independent of the subject of the article. The source must be reliable, meaning it cannot be a blog, MySpace page, or personal website. This makes it difficult, if not impossible, to prove that an inaccurate statement is true, and that it should stay in the article. The policy regarding this states that the statement has to be verifiable, not necessarily true. See Wikipedia:Verifiability for more information.
How do I insert a reference into an article?

For inline references:

  1. Do a search on Ask.com, Google, or your preferred search engine for the subject of the article that you want to put a reference in.
  2. Click 'Edit this page' or 'Edit' in the Wikipedia article, and insert a claim into that article stating a fact about the subject. Don't click the save button just yet.
  3. In the search you did in step 1, find a website that supports the claim you made in step 2. Highlight the address in the address bar (where it says http://www.some-website.com/some-page.htm).
  4. Go to the reference generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out the as many fields as you can. Then click 'Get reference wiki text'.
  5. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text.
  6. In the article, after the claim you made in step 2, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied in step 5.
  7. If the article does not have a References, Footnotes, Notes, or Bibliography section, then add this below the See Also section and above the External Links section:

==References==
{{Reflist}}

For references put at the end of an article:

  1. Do a search on Ask.com, Google, or your preferred search engine for the subject of the article that you want to put a reference in.
  2. In the search, find a website that supports the claims made in the article. Highlight the address in the address bar (where it says http://www.some-website.com/some-page.htm).
  3. Go to the reference generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out the as many fields as you can. Then click 'Get reference wiki text'.
  4. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text.
  5. Go to the Wikipedia article. If the article does not have a References, Footnotes, Notes, or Bibliography section, then add this below the See Also section and above the External Links section:

==References==
{{Reflist}}

Then, add this after the {{Reflist}}, in a new line:

{{Refbegin}}
*Press paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) after this asterisk, then remove the <ref></ref> tags

{{Refend}}
What is a WikiProject, and how do I join one?
A WikiProject is a group of editors that are interested in improving the coverage of certain topics on Wikipedia. If you would like to help, add your username to the list that is on the bottom of the WikiProject page.

Adoption[edit]

Hi Angelo! I see you're looking to be adopted, I'd be happy to help out. If you'd like a hand let me know. Worm 15:43, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Worm, that sounds great and I'd be more than happy to take you up on that offer!  Angelo  ♫  23:19, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Glad to hear it! Well, let me first say, welcome aboard! I run a pretty loose ship when it comes to adoption, I'm happy to do as much or as little as you like. Generally, I'll just hang around over your shoulder and help out where I see the need - always feel free to ask me for help or a third opinion, there are no stupid questions. If you'd like a more from me, let me know, I'm happy to adapt so that we both get the most out of the experience. For now, I'll change your infobox to state that you are adopted and I'll have a snoop through your contributions to let you know if there are any glaring areas for improvement. Worm 08:57, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, thanks a bunch! Mainly, I'll need assistance with the initial creation of articles (citing correctly, etc.), and as you said, a bit of supervision of my edits to make sure they're constructive and I'm following principles such as assuming good faith. If you feel there are other areas I need work on, then please don't hesitate to let me know so I can try to correct it as soon as possible.  Angelo  ♫  16:28, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, for the initial creation of articles, I suggest you create them in your own space first. For example, if you wanted to create an article on chocolate teapots, create the page User:Angelo Michael/Chocolate teapots and work on the article there. Once it's ready, you can use the move function to move the article into the main space. When you start work on any userspace articles, let me know and I'll give you a hand. Well done on following WP:AGF, it's easy enough in theory tothink that everyone is working to benefit the encyclopedia - but in practise it does fall down. If you can stick to it, you will go far. Oh yes, if you want, I can pass you a script which forces you to sign your comments, it's very easy to forget otherwise! Worm 16:34, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that advice, it's a good idea to take advantage of the move function like that. Also, that script would be useful! Thanks!  Angelo  ♫  21:32, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The script in question is Wikipedia:WikiProject User scripts/Scripts/qSig. Assuming you haven't edited your "skin" (so the page looks non-standard), just edit User:Angelo_Michael/vector.js. If you add the following

sigText = '~~'+'~~'; //Straight Sig

importScript('Wikipedia:WikiProject User scripts/Scripts/qSig'); //sig reminder

Then a little button to add your sig appears, and it reminds you if you should be including it! Have a look at the scripts I use User:Worm That Turned/vector.js, see if any others take your fancy.Worm 09:04, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Muchas gracias. Will do.  Angelo  ♫  22:34, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback and reviewer granted[edit]

I have granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe you can be trusted to use rollback correctly, and for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck and thanks. Dabomb87 (talk) 17:02, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have also given you reviewer rights. Please see WP:REVIEWER and Help:Pending changes for more information. Cheers, Dabomb87 (talk) 17:02, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Catch up and vandalism[edit]

Hi Angelo Michael. Just a quick note to let you know I'm still around. How's things going, well I hope? I must say you're picking everything up very quickly, means I don't have much to do! I see you've got yourself rollback and reviewer bits. This allows you to effectively tackle the vandalism which is rife on the encyclopedia, a very important role. I will suggest you do pay attention to the warnings given when you had the tools bestowed upon you, Rollback is only for obvious vandalism and that undo button will work perfectly well for situations where the change isn't vandalism. I've seen many editors fall down on the definition of vandalism, so it is a good idea to familiarise yourself with (WP:VANDALISM), which I'm sure you have done already. I'll let you get on with things for another week and if it's all going well and you feel vandalism fighting is your niche, I'll give you suggestions on ways you can expand your reach. Don't forget to try on other coats though, there's a lot to do in the encyclopedia, see what you enjoy most. Worm 13:43, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a bunch Worm, and yes, I am a bit wary though on using rollback, so I'm still reading up on the finer points of what vandalism is, as well as the reviewer rights, because I don't want to end up making a mistake and having the permissions revoked, so to say, I'm easing into it slowly. I recently started checking out the village pump as well, so I'm finding more niches to get into here!  Angelo  ♫  20:06, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That's great to hear, I hope you find niches you enjoy. One "minor" I thought I should mention. Looking at your edits, it looks like you tag most of them as minor (this could have been something you set in My preferences --> editing) Generally minor edits are considered to be things like adding or removing a single character or space, typos and the like. Also, any obvious vandalism via rollback (see Help:Minor edit for more). Anyway, it's not an big issue, but something to be aware of, as it could cause problems. WormTT 15:42, 9 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oops! Thanks for noticing that. I misunderstood what it was, I took minor and major as how the edit compared to the size of an article.  Angelo  ♫  01:25, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No problems at all, since you seem like a bit of a vandal fighter, I'm going to introduce you to WP:EDITCOUNTITIS. Be careful it doesn't drive you insane, but if you want to get a feel for how much vandal fighting you've done, have a look at this page. It will tell you where your edits are and all sorts of useful information if you opt in. Be aware that anyone can see anyone elses edit count at any time, which can lead to competition and insanity. You can also find out how many of your edits were "automated" here. Remember, edit counts are not the be all and end all of wikipedia, but it's nice to know! WormTT 12:15, 14 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Most of my work here is fighting vandals, yeah. I've seen the edit count function before, and I think it will drive me insane eventually. >:)  Angelo  ♫  00:25, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Just popping in for a quick hello, not a lot in the way of news. Everything seems to be going along alright, good call on the deletion the AfD seems to be backing you up on that. By the way, I'm looking into creating an adoption centre, which will have a a bit of reading material and a few tests to ensure your happy with editing and will let you know when you are ready to "graduate" from adoption. Would this be something you'd be interested in? WormTT 09:30, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Worm, how are you doing? I'm alright, and thanks for the credit on the article deletion nomination. That sounds like a great idea, and I'd definitely be up for participating in it. :)  Angelo  ♫  19:52, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Doing pretty well myself, suddenly become very busy on wikipedia - tis the way it goes! I'll probably spend a bit of time building the centre tonight and tomorrow and hopefully will have it ready by Friday, glad it sounds like something you'd try! WormTT 09:21, 23 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it looks like I have a beginnings of an adoption HQ! Feel free to come and have a look, at User:Worm That Turned/Adopt, and your personal area at User:Worm That Turned/Adopt/Angelo MichaelWormTT 23:13, 23 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It looks great, Worm. I'm looking forward to when it's finished! :)  Angelo  ♫  23:39, 23 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Right, I've substituted the first lesson across to User:Worm That Turned/Adopt/Angelo Michael. It's pretty basic, have a read, check your understanding, let me know if you're happy. I'll stick some questions in so that I know you're thinking in line with the community. There's no rush on this, I was expecting a module a week because I'd say that the mentorship should take 2-3 months. I know you've already been mentored for a month or so, but I'm pretty sure that you'll fly through they modules from your editing so far. Not sure it'll ever be "finished" but it's pretty good to go so far :) WormTT 11:17, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The alt pron. is given only in the subject's home language. Boolyme Chat!! 22:44, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I see. Although I agree with you, the additional alternate pronunciation has been accepted with other revisions, so I'm unsure if there may be a reason to keep it, which is why I suggested the use of the talk page instead of removing it immediately.  Angelo  ♫  22:50, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
[1] Happy??? Boolyme Chat!! 22:54, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It's not exactly a matter of me being happy, but what I think would be more agreeable among others. I'm glad you created a section to draw awareness to this. Thanks.  Angelo  ♫  22:56, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Long time no see[edit]

Hi Angelo Michael. Long time no see! Hope everything's ok. WormTT 12:04, 10 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Angelo Michael. It's been a little while since you've been around so I've moved our adoption program to the archive. If you do return, let me know and I'll happily bring it back. Otherwise, good luck with life :) WormTT · (talk) 09:47, 7 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi WTT. Sorry for the sudden absence with no forewarning or explanation - I have been really busy with school and whatnot, but since things have settled down and I have more free time (and less things to do in that free time), I'm going to be gradually returning to editing. I'm assuming since I've forgotten a lot of the policies and such here that making my adoption archive active would be a wise idea, if you wouldn't mind picking up another user.  Angelo  ♫  01:53, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome back! I'm sure I'll be able to fit you in at some point :) You're "lesson page" is still up there, in exactly the same place User:Worm That Turned/Adopt/Angelo Michael, so it's ready when you are :) WormTT · (talk) 09:45, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New page patrolling[edit]

Hi there. Regarding this edit, try not to be so hasty with A1 and A3 nominations. The page had been edited by the author just seconds before you nominated it, and was created just 12 minutes before that. Patrolling from the back of the queue is the preferred method. Regards Basalisk inspect damageberate 19:25, 6 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Basalisk. I agree that I may have been too hasty. However, I believe that an article should have some content. I think that I gave the page creator enough time to edit the page before I nominated it for speedy deletion. Angelo Michael (talk) 19:45, 6 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
