I'm Chris and this is my little blip in the Wikisphere.

About Me[edit]

I'm an avid Wikipedia user with a knack for encyclopedia'ing and content (usually science) writing; I'm also a fervent supporter of the free exchange of information. Given these two things, I feel like Wikipedia is a place where I naturally belong, and I hope to contribute extensively moving forward, as time permits.

By training, I'm a (pure) mathematician specializing in geometric topology. Professionally, I'm a research scientist/content developer with a company that creates and distributes a major commercial computer algebra system. I'm also passionate about teaching, communicating, and disseminating science and believe that many of the great tomorrows require us to adequately educate our future scientists today.

I'm also a father and husband, as well as a dabbler in computer / Linux / programming things.

Mathematical Interests[edit]

For better or worse, I have a wide array of mathematical interests.

My dissertation work is in low-dimensional geometric topology. In particular, I study taut, finite-depth foliations (introduced by David Gabai) of 3-manifolds and transverse topological structures (e.g., laminations) induced by them. Currently, my advisor and I are working on depth- foliations for ; ideally, more work can (and will!) be done on the cases moving forward.

As a graduate student, I also picked up an interest in complex analysis, complex geometry and generalizations thereof. For me, this means studying things like hypercomplex and Clifford analyses, Kähler, hyperkähler, and general hypercomplex manifolds, and generalized geometry. By and large, many of these fields are in their infancy; as a result, the entrance barrier seems to be rather significant and lots of background knowledge is necessary. For the most part, I'm still working on the background knowledge.
