Sturt Mall is a shopping centre located in the CBD of Wagga Wagga. It features two anchor tenants including Coles and Kmart and of 60 speciality stores.

History[edit]

Sturt Mall was opened on the 12 November 1979 at a cost of A$24 million (1979).[2] The Sturt Mall provides direct competition with the nearby Wagga Wagga Marketplace. The proximity of the shopping centres has provided Wagga Wagga with a Coles Group-Woolworths rivalry which is evident in metropolitan areas.

Redevelopments[edit]

Sturt Mall has redeveloped two times.

  • Sturt Mall was expanded in 1998. [3]
  • In 2011, the centre was redeveloped which included replacing mall tiles, new ceiling installed between the Forsyth Street entrance and Coles, new refurbished stores and new retailers including Dick Smith.[4]
  • Sturt Mall was sold to Dexus Property Group in July 2014 and its $33 million redevelopment has been given approval which will see the mall expand and the addition of a new 4200sqm supermarket and multi-storey carpark.[5]
