Redirect Template‑class

This talk page, like its template used to be, was redirected, in this case to Template talk:R with possibilities. So I turned it into the talk page for the new template. – Paine Ellsworth ( CLIMAX )  05:11, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

{{R from subtitle}} currently redirects to this template, though I don't entirely agree.

As I was told at its real talk page back when the redirect target was different, the template appears intended for "Title: Subtitle → Title without subtitle." I am fine with this usage. Contrary to the discussion, I have not boldly attempted to change it, even though it isn't currently used on any redirects anyway.

However, it is not immediately obvious what Rcat should be used for the cases "Subtitle → Title: Subtitle" and "Subtitle → Title without subtitle." Perhaps {{R from bare subtitle}} would be a good name for a new Rcat, but is one of these cases already covered by {{R to subtopic}} some other Rcat?

Secondary to this is the question of whether {{R from subtitle}} should be unredirected, but I have no suggestion on what text such a template would contain. Any ideas on these several issues?

It looks like Steel1943 planned to develop this to cover redirects described at WP:SUBTITLE, which I agree are only loosely seen as "subtopics". Delete "If notability of the subject can be shown, then be bold and convert this redirect into an article on the subtopic." This additional statement is too strong and in some cases inappropriate for redirects with this rcat. It is entirely plausible that a subtopic of an article is notable but is best handled as a section at an article about a broader topic, such as when a WP:MERGE discussion has reached consensus to that effect. Compare this text to the description associated with Template:R from related topic, which does not so strongly implore users to create articles on related topics, and related topics are much more likely to warrant their own articles than subtopics.
