Phylicia Whitney

Created by MrMeAndMrMe (talk). Self-nominated at 03:23, 28 January 2022 (UTC).

  • The hook as currently written isn't really interesting to a broad audience (being a presenter is by itself not really that eye-catching). Perhaps a hook about her award nominations or how, despite her presenting shows on technology and anime, her background is actually in theatre? Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 13:28, 13 February 2022 (UTC)
  • Thank you for the suggestion. I was thinking that myself but thought it would be unfit or something. Thanks. MrMeAndMrMeLet's talk 23:10, 13 February 2022 (UTC)
  • @MrMeAndMrMe: The nomination may be closed as unsuccessful if a new hook is not proposed within a reasonable timeframe. Please propose a new hook. Thank you. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 12:33, 3 March 2022 (UTC)
  • @MrMeAndMrMe: I would suggest not capitalizing "trade fairs" and "anime" but other than that it sounds good. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 10:24, 5 March 2022 (UTC)
  • Personally I'd reword it as either:
  • That is a good point. The latter sounds more suitable, I would think. MrMeAndMrMeLet's talk 04:04, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
  • This nomination needs a full review, since one has never been done. Flibirigit (talk) 17:43, 13 March 2022 (UTC)
General: Article is new enough and long enough

Policy compliance:

Hook eligibility:

  • Cited: Yes
  • Interesting: No - n
  • Other problems: No - Hook does not appear in the text
Image: Image is freely licensed, used in the article, and clear at 100px.
QPQ: None required.

Overall: I'm not sure that the subject of the article is notable. The hook doesn't appear in the text. A better hook, and perhaps adding some better sources explaining her significance is needed. I think this may have to be turned down completely. --evrik (talk) 02:53, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

  • @Evrik: What do you mean? "Whitney also works as a video journalist and producer, and was a reporter for multiple trade fairs relating to Anime" is directly stated in the article. The hook is very interesting in my opinion; not many journalists and producers will go to such lengths as making trade fairs for anime. Moving on to the notability, she was ranked as best women in the German games industry in the “Media” category in 2017 by a company and was nominated for another award. Perhaps could you give a link to a notability guideline? MrMeAndMrMeLet's talk 03:03, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
  • Hosting is different than reporting. The hook doesn't work for me. Are there better sources? Something outside the gaming industry? I'd hold my nose on the notability if a better hook could be found. --evrik (talk) 03:10, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
  • I'm inclined to reject this. Anyone else wan to give a second opinion? --evrik (talk) 14:30, 29 March 2022 (UTC)
  • Fair enough. I don't know why I worded it like that because it's blatantly wrong. MrMeAndMrMeLet's talk 18:15, 29 March 2022 (UTC)
  • For what it's worth, I agree that the currently proposed hook fact isn't spectacular. Personally I think it was more interesting that she became a tech journalist despite her background in theatre, and if someone could word it better than I did, I think it would be a better hook than the anime thing. I would not oppose the nomination being closed as unsuccessful if no other hooks can be proposed. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 03:35, 30 March 2022 (UTC)
  • Giving this a shot, though if anyone can word it better than I did, feel free to do so.
ALT4 "... that prior to becoming a tech journalist, Phylicia Whitney apprenticed at a theater school and appeared in multiple theatrical productions?"
ALT4a "... that prior to becoming a tech journalist, Phylicia Whitney apprenticed at the Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts and appeared in multiple theatrical productions?"
The main issue here is that her education in Hanover currently lacks a footnote, and so if this hook is to be used, the relevant footnote has to be added. Thoughts @Evrik and MrMeAndMrMe:? Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 04:43, 30 March 2022 (UTC)
Alt 5 "... that prior to becoming a tech journalist, Phylicia Whitney graduated with a degree of editing from the Cologne University of Applied Sciences?
--evrik (talk) 04:59, 30 March 2022 (UTC)
Alt4 looks fine to me, alt 5 isn't too interesting in my opinion. MrMeAndMrMeLet's talk 18:23, 31 March 2022 (UTC)
Given that Evrik proposed a new hook, a new reviewer will be needed to make a final choice in hook. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 03:27, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
@Evrik: is the notability question a serious hold-up? we may want to notability-tag the article and try to resolve it that way. theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/they) 19:47, 4 April 2022 (UTC)
  • The hook is the biggest issue. --evrik (talk) 05:09, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
@Evrik: If the issue is with the original hooks, we could always strike them out and only leave ALT4/ALT4a/ALT5 for review. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 04:22, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
  • I really don't like any of the hooks, but I think that speaks to the thinness of the content in the article. Alt 5 is mine btw, so if you want to approve that one ... but really, there has to be something better. --evrik (talk) 04:26, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
We could always wait for opinions from another reviewer on if these hooks are possible or if something else is needed. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 04:33, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
  • I'm not sure that the subject of the article is notable. A better hook, and perhaps adding some better sources explaining her significance is needed. I think this may have to be turned down completely. --evrik (talk) 04:38, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
enough? About to delete. Victuallers (talk) 15:02, 16 April 2022 (UTC)
@Victuallers: What do you mean by about to delete? Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 01:59, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
I mean, Remove from the this list of active DYK nominations... effectively deleted. It has a delete tag on it and that is defined in the dyk process. Is this an active nomination? Victuallers (talk) 07:36, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
Ah, you mean the DYKno icon? That's not a delete tag, that's just a mark saying that a reviewer has failed a nomination. If that happens, either another uninvolved editor closes the nomination, or resolves any remaining issues and asks for a re-review. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 08:50, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
This is the kind of irrelevant conversation that develops at DYK. You asked what I meant and I told you. If you hover your cursor over the DYKno tag then you will see the word "delete". Can we stick to the subject of ... I'm about to enact the tag that is labelled delete? My purpose is to get rid of this abandoned nom. Victuallers (talk)
