Infobox "Result"[edit]

Please note that Template:Infobox military conflict#Parameters states against "result" that "this parameter may use one of two standard terms: "X victory" or "Inconclusive"." The infobox has been amended to reflect this. Please read the template "result" guidance in full before amending or reverting. It would probably be best to discuss any proposed change here first to seek consensus. Thanks. Gog the Mild (talk) 16:31, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"War"[edit]

The article states "Algeria declared war in 1790 because of a blockade Portugal imposed on them." The first source gives a link to a PDF that only goes up to page 246, while pages 252–262 are cited. Also, the source does not even mention the year 1790. I tried looking for another link to the same source and found it on a website here, which also ends on page 246. The second source gives a link to a book, on page 197 (at least for me, the other pages are unavailable for viewing), but does not state that there was a declaration of war. So, I think the name of the article could be changed to "conflict" or "crisis", or perhaps, even deleted, since it was made by a suspected sockpuppet, and since there was no declaration of war. I also know that there were undeclared wars, for example, the Falklands War. However, there were other periods "marked mostly by a series of naval battles", which damaged relations between the two countries, such as in the early 17th and 18th centuries, and I do not see the need to create a whole article about it calling it a war, which also, if it existed, did not have any significant impact on the history of Portugal (and not even Algeria). In fact, they were intermittent minor naval engagements, most involving merchant ships, probably all being fought by Algerian privateers, which increased during this period.
