== Need for Technical specifications of WAG-9 ==

Hey guys,
I am currently trying to improve the WAG-9 class to GA status. While going through the page, I noticed that the Technical specifications section is too long. – no need for every series like WAP, WAG to have its own article since information on those pages is just shortened versions of the info on the loco class article. Having all electrics in one place and diesels in one will ensure that new learners can get info from few pages instead of having to scurry multiple pages. Additional info about a specific class can always be found at the dedicated article page for the loco. I would appreciate your views below. • Oppose: separate pages are better. expansion of the current pages is a better idea, rather than merging/moving. ❯❯❯ S A H A 12:10, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@ArnabSaha: How about moving the Indian Railways WAG class to AC Electric goods locomotives of India or Electric goods locomotives of India, for complying with WP:COMMONNAME? Similarly, Indian Railways WCAM class may be moved to Dual Electric Mixed locomotives of India? --Field Marshal Aryan (talk) 12:38, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Field Marshal Aryan, wont this make the names more complex for readers? ❯❯❯ S A H A 07:34, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
ArnabSaha It is still better than WCAM or WAG, no? I mean WCAM would not make any sense for me if it's the first time I am looking at Indian locos. But now I feel instead of this drastic name change, a small, factually correct move to 'series' from 'class' would be better. --Field Marshal Aryan (talk) 07:57, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Field Marshal Aryan, keep both. Electric goods locomotives of India will be the main article, which will work as a summary. under this, Indian Railways WAG class and Indian Railways WCAM class etc. articles will act as sub-articles, with detailed info. ❯❯❯ S A H A 08:06, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Should we have Electric goods locomotives of India and Electric passenger locomotives of India separate or merge them as Electric locomotives of India/Electric locomotives of Indian Railways? Whatever be the case, we do need a new article (or two) since the Locomotives of India article is way too cluttered. --Field Marshal Aryan (talk) 08:15, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Field Marshal Aryan, Locomotives of India this, can be splitter, but WP:SIZESPLIT is generally done on > 60kB / 60,000 characters. but this article is 55kB / 9,735 chars. And, if splitted, then I will go with Electric locomotives of Indian Railways. ❯❯❯ S A H A 08:22, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • I am 100% agree with arnab saha that separate or dedicated articles of every locomotives should be there. Those are shouldn't be merged and put it into series. Individual locomotive articles should elaborated with properly sourced informations. Apart from few series like ndm, zdm and wcp series which should be considered to be put into series form ,rest of the locomotive series are not needed. Instead linking those separate or dedicated locomotive articles with locomotives of India article then any one can easily find the details of every individual locomotives by just clicking on the name of the locomotives in that article.Suvadeep Saha56 (talk) 17:00, 3 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, @Suvadeep Saha56: I too am not saying that we need to merge the individual articles about each locomotive. They should saty, indeed. I was talking about merging the articles that list these series like WCAM and WAG, into one article like Electric locomotives of Indian Railways or maybe, as per discussion here, change name to something similar or more suitable. -- Field Marshal Aryan (talk) 06:30, 4 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Field Marshal Aryan: Look Aryan in my opinion locomotive series articles are not needed because if you see the locomotives of India article there is a list of every locomotives that Indian Railway used till now and if you link that list with the dedicated locomotive articles then anyone can easily find the individual loco details. But if you think that combining the loco series articles and make it into one will be better then its upto you. If you think that merging those series articles and make it into one is a good idea then you can do that from my point of view but without disturbing the individual loco articles.Suvadeep Saha56 (talk) 07:05, 4 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Vatsmaxed:I say it should be Indian locomotive series WCAM because:
  1. We are already using 'Indian locomotive class xyz' for specific locomotives and
  2. WCAM, WAG etc isn't a class, it's a series of classes.
--Field Marshal Aryan (talk) 13:44, 3 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Field Marshal Aryan: Agreed. Also thanks for adding signature.:) Vatsmaxed (talk) 05:13, 4 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome, mate! -- Field Marshal Aryan (talk) 06:30, 4 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Update: Hdmanohar has created List of electric locomotives of India which can be a good workaround to this problem though it would have been better had if he would have waited till consensus was reached here :) --Field Marshal Aryan (talk) 19:32, 8 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Field Marshal Aryan: I actually didn't check the ongoing discussion. I think a Single article for the Electric locos is more than enough.--Hdmanohar (talk) 03:22, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It's alright, mate. Just make sure that next time you create an article you check if there is a discussion going on about it. Thanks for your contribs. --Field Marshal Aryan (talk) 06:45, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Okay so I will move the Indian locomotive class WCAM and similar articles to Indian locomotive series WCAM. If anyone has objections, do let me know. I will probably move them by Tuesday IST. Also we now have the List of electric locomotives of India article now. --Field Marshal Aryan (talk) 14:34, 13 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hdmanohar,Field Marshal Aryan, part outside this discussion, as we have List of electric locomotives of India and List of diesel locomotives of India now, should we have List of steam locomotives of India too? Vatsmaxed (talk) 07:02, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Vatsmaxed Yes sir. It only makes sense that we maintain consistency. --Field Marshal Aryan (talk) 07:26, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Field Marshal Aryan, oh. add the fb link in the project page ❯❯❯ S A H A 14:45, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

ArnabSaha I suggest that you add it yourself, because with the current format of the page, I wasn't able to find a suitable place to place the external link. Regards, ⍟ Field Marshal Aryan ⍟ 05:20, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

ArnabSaha I have moved the fb and instagram inks to the members page as 5 buttons on the main page looked daunting. Also since they are not vital to the maintenance of the project, I didin't feel like keeping them on the main page. I hope you won't mind. WAG-12 issue.

Hallo Everyone I am discussing about the data of total wag-12 commissioned by IR. A fellow wikipedian name Rohan paul 999 (talk) is changing the data of total locomotives commissioned by IR without giving any proper source or reference and I have once previously reverted his unsourced data but he has put it back again today and also he has written in my talk page that I shouldn't revert it without proper sourced data. So, I am asking everyone to give their opinion that should I revert his unsourced data or not.Suvadeep Saha56 (talk) 14:51, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yea. It's advisable that you revert his edits and alert him on his talk page that un-sourced content will be removed. Especially statistics like numbers built. Searching through the web, I didn't find any sources stating how many of them have been manufactured, although if we go by the road number, one might say that around 25 have been rolled out. However, that will be classified as original research which hold no value on Wikipedia. --Field Marshal Aryan (talk) 18:01, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Field Marshal Aryan:Yes bro you are correct I have also search many times in the web that exactly how many wag12 locomotives manufactured till now but I too haven't found any data. I have reverted his unsourced data once a few days ago and after I see that today he has put that data back again I have immediately warned him in his talk page after he has instructed me that not to change the data without proper Source in my talk page. So, I am telling you that this time if you revert his unsourced data and warned him about it then it will be better. After you revert that I will keep an eye on it that if he is putting that data back again or not. Suvadeep Saha56 (talk) 20:04, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, but whatever happens, don't break the 3 revert rule. Even if you are objectively right. --Field Marshal Aryan (talk) 20:31, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Field Marshal Aryan:Yes I know that no problem go ahead. Suvadeep Saha56 (talk) 22:04, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
