I'm sending you this because you've made quite a few edits to the template namespace in the past couple of months. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :).

So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere.

What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default.

The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small JSON data structure, loaded through an extension called TemplateData. I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'd be willing and able to put some time into adding TemplateData to high-profile templates. It's pretty easy to understand (heck, if I can write it, anyone can) and you can find a guide here, along with a list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback page.

hi David, I fail to understand why you have systematically been removing archival information from references in at least these two edits that you made:

How can removal of archival information possibly improve the quality of an article? This is not just a luxury of "extra info". The verifiability of an online encylopedia depends mainly on external web pages. The history of the world wide web shows that sources can be volatile. Web pages that are interesting and useful and appear stable can and do disappear. Just because a source disappears does not imply that we should remove the corresponding information from the Wikipedia. Given that archival websites exist, archiving these makes our articles more verifiable in the long term. This still requires the reader to trust the archiving organisation, but that's easier than searching through a long edit history and then trusting a random Wikipedian's memory ("I remember I read the info justifying that sentence ten years ago at the time I edited, but I'm afraid I didn't store a snapshot"). Please see Web archiving for a general discussion and WebCite or List of Web archiving initiatives for some examples. Even mainstream newspaper websites are not necessarily stable in the long term. A newspaper might decide to require subscriptions for articles older than X years. Or the newspaper might close down in an economic crisis with nobody from the ex-newspaper making the effort (legal + hardware + software) to create a long-term web archive.

Unless you have a good reason from removing the archival information, I would suggest that you restore the deleted material.

(On a less fundamental point, I also fail to understand why you have removed reference labels from references that in a given version of an article are only cited once. If a reference is useful once, chances are that someone editing later may wish to cite the same reference for another relevant piece of information. The edit label can usually be guessed by clicking on the existing link to the reference - if the label already exists. Removing an existing label creates extra work for the later edit. The extra number of bytes is negligible in terms of download time compared to the main text. Conciseness is needed in the rendered text, not the source text. In any case, the archival information is a much more fundamental issue.)

As I said before, the claim about Ghuraba al-Sham being allied with Syrian intel is just that, allegations (even the sources given talk about that, accusations, suggestions, allegations and claims, not facts). Some people also claim that the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant is allied or even funded by the Syrian goverment, but we dont put the Syrian gov. as an ISIS ally in its infobox (logically). So, I cannot accept adding Syrian intelligence to the infobox as an ally, nor with the (formerly) clarification, nor with the (allegedly) clarification. Why? Because following that logic we should add, for example, the FSA (formerly) to the ISIS allies section of its infobox, as they were allies until a few months ago, and they even are still allies against Kurdish forces in Hasakah province. A clear double standard example. I agree that allegations could have space in the articles content, but not in the infobox, as it is misleading. I highly doubt the Army of Mujahedeen, the Authenticity and Development Front, and Ansar al-Sham consider themselves affiliated with the FSA. The two articles cited for listing them as such (here and here) may be generalizing the FSA as any factions that aren't jihadist. It would be especially odd if Ansar al-Sham suddenly joined the FSA, considering it's already part of the Islamic Front. Hi, I saw you had reverted some of my edits on jihadist and thought to touch base with you on this to explain and hear your thoughts. I basically see it as a value laden label. To this end I am currently developing a Draft:List of organizations self-described as mujahideen or by jihad. I have similarly done work on Category:Designated terrorist organizations associated with Islam so as not merely to label various Islamist incidents as Islamic terrorism. I have similarly developed Category:Islamist insurgent groups to cover organizations that are not designated as terrorist. I think that it is fine to quote other organisations as declaring a group to be jihadist (a western relative neologism) or terrorist but I have qualms about doing this in Wikipedia's voice at least extensively. Groups like al-Jazeera have also taken to using the phases "self-declared jihadist" and "self-proclaimed jihadist". The groups are not contested to be Islamist be may be contested to be jihadist. (Sorry if this may not be relevant for you, but i am reaching out to several other editors and think you might possibly be interested.) Hey, i see that you contributed some at the old article, and recently some others have tried to restore the article on the Transhumanist Party that was effectively deleted by "redirect" outcome of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Transhumanist Party. I see that in the AFD discussion i participated a lot, and argued for redirect at the time. But actually I am interest personally in Transhumanism, and I do want to support development of a valid article on the Transhumanist Party, as long as there are more sources available now and it can be developed to meet Wikipedia standards for an article. But, the way forward is for editors to develop a draft, and that can be done at Draft:Transhumanist_Party and discussed at Draft talk:Transhumanist_Party. Then when it is improved, submit it (by inserting {{submit}} at the top of the page) for approval to move to mainspace. (Or, technically another option is to dispute the AFD decision by appealing at wp:DRN, but takes time and that is highly unlikely to succeed, and I don't recommend it.) The government Mahlab III does not exist. It is always the government Mahlab II but was overhauled. The sources speak of reshuffle. The Prime Minister did unsworn again, only the new ministers were sworn in. So, on June 17, there has been shift from government Mahlab I to government Mahlab II because Mahlab resigned and then sworn in a second time. I think I'll make a fusion in a while. Hello, thanks for adding the info to wikipedia, it looks like you were trying to improve things, that's appreciated. I do understand why David removed what you added though... bicycle races seems to have nothing to do with the presidential races! But appearances can be deceiving, and in this case bicycle races turn out to be worth mentioning. Your link to the youtube video is presumably proof (though I haven't watched all 45 minutes myself) that Trump indeed mentioned bicycle races in his announcement. That might be something worth putting into the article, per WP:ABOUTSELF, even though it was Trump himself that was making the comment in the youtube video.

    Now usually, youtube isn't a very reliable source in WP:SOURCES terms that wikipedia normally relies on, but in this case, that is a link to the official youtube channel of a television station, WSVN-TV channel 7 in Miami, who decided to publish the entire 47-minute announcement speech. This teevee-station-enhanced-credibility might arguably make the mention of bicycle races, once we can specifically locate it inside the WSVN-youtube-source, satisfy WP:NOTEWORTHY and be worth putting in the article... albeit as a primary source, it should be used with care. One technical-difficulty problem though, the link you gave is specifically to 49m15s into the video, but the speech is only 47m51s long right now on youtube; maybe the TV station cut down the footage, or maybe the 49m15s thing was just a goof. To use the WSVN source, we would need a more exact point in the primary-source-speech when Trump mentioned the bicycle races.

    Even better, another source that would be even more helpful to demonstrating WP:NOTEWORTHY, would be some kind of secondary-source, which was reviewing/summarizing the Trump announcement speech, and mentioned the bicycle-thing as part of the review/summary. Doing a bit of googling via yahoo.com powered by bing.com, I found this secondary source, which does exactly that.[5] So, it looks like the bicycle-race quote was not merely *found* in the 47-minute-video somewheres, it was (according to wiki-reliable-source Politico) one of the top three quotes from the whole announcement-speech. That definitely satisfies WP:NOTEWORTHY in my mind, and so I think the bicycle-racing thing can definitely be mentioned in the article on the Trump campaign. However, I strongly suggest we write something which explains the context of the bicycle-race quotation, like this maybe.

    "During his announcement speech, Trump said he would keep Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, and criticized John Kerry for the current status of negotiations with Iran; Trump also criticized Kerry's judgement outside the political realm, in particular breaking^[when?] his leg (at age 72) in a bicycle race, after which Trump made a firm campaign promise never to race bicycles himself.[6]" That gives the 'flavor' of the Trump candidacy, plus also summarizes why Politico found the bicycle-quote noteworthy, methinks. You removed[7] the |quote= portion from one of the named-refs, because it was used (by name-referent) in more than one place, i.e. the same cite was used to back about five sentences, only three of which were specifically related to the |quote= portion. Is there some way to properly do what I was trying to do? I understand I could have made

and then for the other sentences unrelated to the quoted portion made another

After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Admins won't block that alt-right IP with insufficient warnings. The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

The problem is the citations are still there from when the description was "right-wing to far-right wing", the most common reference to the political position of the Jewish Home is typically just right-wing (as opposed to a far-right party like Otzma Yehudit which is almost always called far-right and or Kahanist), but the citations used in the infobox are contradictory to both what the infobox itself lists, as well as common descriptions of the parties position. Hi David. I don't think you should keep creating articles in very minor parties that are unlikely to pass the electoral threshold. We already have far too many of these articles on parties that contested an election once then disappeared. Hi, regarding Tzomet (2019 political party) - Tzomet was never closed. It was more or less inactive since loosing last time in 2009 but the party stayed registered and used as a "shelf party" by Hazan. If you compare the names running in 2009 and 2019 some of the names will be identical - there are new candidates but the old ones are still around. Please merge articles. Wikipedia editor Cartoon Boy removed Mike Gravel from the subsection "Withdrew before the primaries" in the "Candidates" section, citing the lack of sourcing for this. However, Gravel has withdrawn & I had a Vanity Fair article that I had placed in the "Timeline" section on July 31, 2019 detailing Gravel's withdrawal. Hi, would like to hear a little more about your reasoning here. My thoughts (and I am relatively ambivalent about this) is that Sestak's career as a three-star officer in the US Armed Forces is at least as notable as Warren and the CFPB, which is the only other non-elected federal office listed in the table. If I have read correctly, the other candidates with military service are Buttigieg (Lieutenant, Navy Reserve), Gabbard (Major, Army National Guard), and Moulton (Captain, US Army).
