Images

Hi. I had quick look through some of your most recent uploads.

I hope this points you in the right direction. Let me know if you'd like me to review further back. Bovlb 14:22:50, 2005-09-06 (UTC)

Everything is fixed. I am just tagging those images now. --Gary King 15:33, 6 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I took another quick look. You tagged Image:MarjoleinNov2004.gif as public domain and gave a source. Maybe I'm not looking at the right part of the page, but I can't see what you're using as the basis for the PD claim. Could you please be a little clearer about why you believe this picture is in the public domain? Thanks, Bovlb 19:22:38, 2005-09-06 (UTC)
Okay, done. Let me know if there is anything else.--Gary King 20:57, 6 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Java

GaryKing, have you consulted someone before moving Java to Java (disambiguation) and #redirecting Java to Java programming language? I don't thing you argument that Java programming language is, by far, the most popular use for this term is necessarily valid nor sufficient to justify such a move.

The Java programming language was named after the Java_coffee, name as such for being original from the Java Island. And even in the context of computers Java more commonly reffers to the Java_platform, not the programming language alone.

As examples, see Nirvana or Nike. The articles refer to the original terms, not the most popular ones.

I believe we need to delete Java before moving Java (disambiguation) back there.

  • I also have the same question as Abu regarding consultation before the move. While I can perhaps agree with redirecting to Java (disambiguation), I do not agree with redirecting to Java programming language (even though I use it). The current redirect also makes it much more difficult to properly disambiguate "Java". In my history of disambiguating Java, I would tend to agree that the reference is more for the language but the island is also commonly referred to as well. Unsourced images

You have many images listed as being un-sourced. See User:Pearle/by-author-Category:Images_with_unknown_source.txt for a nice, wikified list of them. (Search for your name). If you do not add a source, they will probably all be deleted really soon(as in, people are deleting images in this category - RIGHT NOW). JesseW, the juggling janitor 09:20, 21 September 2005 (UTC)

Odeo

Your Odeo article was listed for speedy deletion, so I moved it to User:GaryKing/Odeo. Nobody will bother it there. Let me know if you have any questions. Friday (talk) 03:13, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Commit Charge

Hej, Gary. Could you give a brief and general outline of what needs to be improved at the Commit Charge article in its respective Talk page? It will help others to be able to pinpoint where it might be best to improve the article. Thanks!

Africa/Tonga

Thanks for the cat needed, I just think you might have it wrong  :) I'll let you check it, otherwise I'll be guilty of jumping the gun. Check Dubyaspeak.com for Mexico/Canada border joke.  :) vcxlor 01:39, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Acid rain

Gary:

On December 17th, you added " “Acid Rain” in Wikipedia describes how acid rain breaks down the waxy cuticle of tree bark..."

That doesn't make sense. You had some other attribution in mind? Paleorthid 18:29, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I added that after merging the content from another article. Feel free to clean it up. --Gary King 05:22, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I am a bit concerned about this. Where is it from and is the article free of copyright? It looks very out of place and not well written. I am currently tempted to delete it altogether (or at least drastically prune it) as it has a bad mix of very specialist terms e.g. acidophilic and parts which belong elsewhere and reads like a more general essay on acidifcation than an encyclopedia entry on the effects of soil biology.--NHSavage 11:13, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The original is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Effects_of_acid_rain_on_soil_biology&oldid=30914112 --Gary King 15:57, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Arrr. OK this was posted by a user who has made no other edits. I will have a good hack at it and see what I can salvage from it. Thanks for letting me know.--NHSavage 16:06, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hobix

And particular reason why you created the article Hobix, as a redirect to the only article that links to it? Seems a bit useless, and confusing. — pmcm 22:55, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-automated template substitution

You made rational edits to this article back in Dec. Since then a number of poor edits has forced this page onto the pile of scurf in dead-end pages that I am currently working on. Would you care to take a look at this page and do an appropriate revert? MNewnham 20:11, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Done.--Gary King 21:43, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you delete South by Southwest Festival so quickly? I just created it a few minutes ago; people could have added to it. You could have at most marked it as a stub. --Gary King 23:34, 18 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Please review WP:CSD. The content of your article was a single line without any context, specifically this. Not quite enough to be a stub. - CHAIRBOY () 00:17, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:FF 116 blog1 f.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. 82.83.102.129 11:59, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lussier Hot Springs

Hi, I noticed your context tag on the intro to this article. I added the country (Canada), made hot spring a link, and removed the tag...not sure what other information is missing from the intro. If you feel more is needed, feel free to reinstate the tag and describe what's needed on the discussion page. Shyland 19:40, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
