Melbourne Institute of Business and Technology (MIBT) is an Australian tertiary education provider. Located on Deakin University's Melbourne campus at Burwood, MIBT provides the Certificate IV in University Foundation Studies which is equivalent to Year 12, and university-level diplomas in Commerce, Computing, Media and Communication, Health Sciences, Engineering, Science and Management. MIBT offers an excellent pathway to Deakin University for students who do not meet the entry requirements for Deakin University's courses or as a bridge between previous study and University. MIBT Diplomas are equivalent to the first year of the Deakin University undergraduate degree. On successful completion of the MIBT Diplomas and subject to University academic entrance criteria MIBT graduates are guaranteed entry to second year of the relevant Bachelor degree. The Postgraduate Qualifying Programs offered from 2008 is a non-award program designed to provide a pathway to Deakin University's Master's programs in Science, Engineering and Information Technology.

The recognised certificate is accepted widely by other educational providers for entry to a university degree. Australian students depending on their results and entry quotas may move into a Commonwealth Supported Place.

MIBT is committed to helping students achieve success and to reach their academic goals. Students will be supported by qualified staff, quality teaching, outstanding facilities, academic and student support services.

History and Philosophy

MIBT was established in September 1996 on Deakin University's Toorak Campus. At the time it was recognised to provide access to post secondary education for both Australian and International students who did not qualify for direct entry into university, but who, in the right circumstances, have the capacity and motivation to complete a degree program. MIBT also allows students to complete their studies more flexibly, for example if they wish to fast track (8 months) their course rather than do a regular university long course (12 months).

MIBT is now established geographically at the Deakin Campus Burwood. MIBT is located at buildings La and Lb where Deakin International is also located.
