My talk page

What are you referring to? And on what basis am I to be blocked? Halibutt 12:23, Jun 6, 2005 (UTC)

Also, I noticed your comment here. Could you please provide evidence for your accusations - or apologise? Halibutt 16:16, Jun 6, 2005 (UTC)
While regarding Halibutts' recent reverts I agree they are mostly (mostly!) POINT, I am disapointed nobody seems to be interested in fixing the voting policy, which is the source of this. Sure, we can block Halibutt, make him take the entire blame for this policy (or just blame the Poles in general), but is this right? I am dissapointed by yours and many others conduct in this, you are willing to make Halibutt a scapegoat and appear to think that blocking him will make things right, instead of adressing the real issue of loopholes in the policy (and I won't even bring the issue that the entire Gdansk/Vote has been challenged many times on the basis that Chris removed some votes - which I actually agree with but is not the issue here, issue is he had no right to do so). Dozens of users have found time to bash Halibutt, but NONE of them (with the notable exception of Chris who agrees with me and so far have not joined 'hang-the-Halibutt' mob) found time to comment at my proposal for Template talk:Gdansk-Vote-Notice. Blocking Halibutt is not going to solve this issue, at best, it may end with Wikipedia loosing a valuable contributor. And if he goes, I won't be far behind. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 23:31, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Tbere is only one thing I cannot understand. What is this Halibutt's agenda you refer to? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 00:03, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Unless he is lying to me, this is not his agenda. I have talked to him about this several times, and he told me his goal is to show this voting has loopholes, which are being used by German users as well as Polish. I would agree his behaviour broke POINT, but I know he is not a petty nationalist who only wants Polish names, if you check the Gdansk/Vote, you will see he voted for Danzing for certain time periods (as well as did I). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 19:12, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hi - I wasn't suggesting LOTR-ripoff article be kept as is. If you look at this earlier version in the article history, it was originally about a (nonfiction) battle between Israeli and Palestinian forces. Why the author changed it (or whether it was just someone else using the same computer) I don't know. But the earlier version should be kept and cleaned up. -- BDAbramson talk 20:55, 2005 Jun 7 (UTC)

Sockpuppet limit

I noticed your comment on Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Fake Ivy. You've probably been asked before, but I'll ask it anyway: just what is the limit for sockpuppets and personal attacks? --Xcali 21:52, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • Reply: Thanks. I may use that in the future. --Xcali 22:03, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thanks!!

That test was about my curiosity. I was hoping noone would reprimand me for it. I value this place. Antares33712 22:28, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

What am I doing?

I don't really have any idea what I'm doing right now, I got a message from RickK that said "don't do slander articles". I got several similar messages and I don't know who they are from or what they are about. I'm not sure how to leave a message, or is that what I'm doing now? Anyway, I'm new to the site (as a user) and have no idea what I'm doing. So RickK, can you send me another message and kind of direct me? T.I.A. (thx in advance)

Thank you for voting on my RFA. Have some pie! I was pleasantly surprised by the sheer number of supporters (including several people that usually disagree with my opinion). I shall do my best with the proverbial mop. Yours, Radiant_>|< 08:02, Jun 8, 2005 (UTC)

Hello. As an experience WP user, can I just ask you to take a look at Ibrahim 'Ali Salman. I discussed this article on the author's talk page when if first manifested a month or so back, but I agreed to see what it turned into. I think it's a VFD candidate, but I'd liek a second opinion, if you don't mind. Cheers. The JPS 12:50, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, that's what I thought too. There was a lot of poetry on this page, which I suggested me moved to wikisource. I don't know anything about the topic, but I know a dodgy article when I see one. Do you reckon it should go to VFD? A simple clean up tage could mean it could get ignored for a good while... The JPS 21:01, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Re: Adam Lopez

The Adam Lopez article needs verification. I'm sorry, but the highest note on a piano is a C7, not a C8 (classical music deems the seventh octave unmusical). Furthermore the Guinness link only says he has the record for male ONLY for a D7. I have HEARD him pitch higher (a B7 I believe), but that has not been officially announced (in so far as I know). Call a piano and ask how many octaves above soprano high C is the last note on a piano. I bet there will only be one. If not, there would never be any talk of people singing above the top of the piano (as Mariah and a few others can do)

Please read what I have written on the page because I hope that on reflection you will change your vote. Philip Baird Shearer 17:41, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)

If you look at belligerent military occupation at around January you will see that most of the edits were an edit war between Israel and Palestine. By creating a list and massively expanding the names to all belligerent military occupations since 1907 it took the POV out of the definition article and then thanks to the expansion did the same in the list. People are far more likely to argue over a list of half a dozen controversial names picked initially as a tit for tat and bash America, than for a set of dozens, even if the list still contains the initial half dozen which caused edit wars. Exactly the same thing happened when Uses of torture in recent times was created out of Torture. The list has now expanded from the initial list of 4: US, UK, Israel, Saudi Arabia,(in that order) + Germany, France and Chile in the introduction, [1] all extracted from the torture page, 8 months later, the endless tit for tat which took place on the torture page has been stopped and the list is in alphabetic ordering and has 14 countries ranging from Afghanistan to Uzbekistan. The information for the original four is about the same, but the expansion of the list puts them into better context. The list of Tyrants has, in the days we have been arguing about whether to delete it or not, already been expanded, from the initial list of names which I extracted from the Tyrant page, into what I thing is becoming an interesting list. If the list page is deleted the original names will probably be re-inserted back into the tyrant page and the list in tyranicide will remain "difficult". Re: clarification on ranges, octaves, and the like

I read your comments (in Adam Lopez and whistle register) and posted and article on the octave scale. Read it and tell me if you like it, if not I'll speedy it.

Antares33712 22:50, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Wait.......

He does exist!! This is a problem I have. I created the stub, hoping to attract information about him (since he is known to whistle register enthusiasts). With his Guinness record (the D7 in 2003) and career backing Mariah, he is as notable as say Lisa Fischer. The problem is very little exists about him on the Internet. So once again, if it ain't in Google, it doesn't exist. I tracked down some information on him by doing an exhaustive search (which I can do tomorrow), but this a fundamental point I have. notability is subjective and not necessary unencyclopedic. IF this is Adam Lopez himself (and not some Austrailian poser), the edit should be reverted back to the stub before it, which the Guinnes link added showcasing his record for D7 (which conincidentally, I read about on a Joss Stone site, which Betty Wright is her vocal coach, that Adam could match pitch with Betty or something.) Antares33712 23:02, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • I really think its a poser, I mean look at all the edits. Click on the first one at the bottom. He doesn't know his own range? Bb9 (almost two octaves above Mariah and Minnie)? Why was he guessing? I think all of his edits need reversion! Antares33712 23:05, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)
    • No complaints there, at least its due process, but the edits to eighth octave C and whistle register are obviously at least dubious (and likely verifiably incorrect) and need reversion. Antares33712 23:08, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Trivia

What word do you get when you rearrange the letters in the word "Dynamo"? How about "Garden"? --68.170.0.238 05:33, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

tyrants

Can you help? Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/List of tyrants user:Philip Baird Shearer is asking what category of deletion under Wikipedia:Deletion policy I am arguing under. The list is, of course, inherently POV, but he's pointing out (correctly it seems) that this isn't a deletion category in itself, and that POV should be argued in the talk page. If he wins this argument - then 'list of horrible people' and 'list of great holiday destinations' would also be legit (and that's just moronic). But I don't know how to answer him... --Doc (?) 12:14, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Votes for Deletion

Hey RickK, do you like to alter the VfD notices on pages? 68.170.0.238 23:12, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Votes for Deletion: Historical Mississippi License Plates

Before assuming that the VfD is not a bad faith nomination you might want to be aware that three of the users casting "delete" votes, and possibly a fourth one, all appear to be sockpuppets of User:Spotteddogsdotorg. Spotteddogsdotorg's account was created on 19 May 2005 and his/her favorite topic for editing is apparently TV stations on the East Coast. Spotteddogsdotorg is the user who nominated the article for deletion, as well as a related one on the history of license plates and several railroad photos.

Four of the "delete" votes are from User:Toasthaven, User:Hohokus, User:Melvis, and User:ConeyCyclone:

  • ConeyCyclone's account was created earlier today, just a few hours ago, and has mostly been used to vote on VfD's.
  • Toasthaven's account was created on 24 May 2005, his/her first ever edit was a VfD, and a favorite topic of Toasthaven to edit is TV stations on the East Coast.
  • Hohokus' account was created on 9 Jun 2005, a majority of his/her edits have been votes on VfD's, and a favorite topic of Toasthaven to edit when not voting on VfD's is TV stations on the East Coast.
  • Melvis' account was created 31 May 2005, almost all of his/her edits have been votes on VfD's, and a favorite topic when not voting on VfD's is TV stations on the East Coast.

Somebody who has the ability to check IP's should look into this to see if Spotteddogsdotorg is using multiple sockpuppets.

All of these VfD's nominated by Spotteddogsdotorg also have the appearance of being jealousy on his/her part at articles which might "compete" with US and Canadian license plates, and at users such as User:TVSRR and User:Absecon 59 who made edits to US and Canadian license plates that Spotteddogsdotorg didn't like. Looks a whole lot like sour grapes and bad faith nominations to me. Kaibabsquirrel 23:28, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Re. editing User:Again's user page

I'm not sure if you have a script reverting Userspace edits by unaffiliated users, but User:Again is violating WP:WIN (Wikipedia is not a free host or webspace provider, Wikipedia is not Anarchy) In addition, I have an honest belief that the content of User:Again's user page violates the laws of Florida, where Wikipedia's servers are stored. Such is explicitly against WP policy, and whatever space it may be in, I believe I have an honest right to revert it.

The quote on YOUR user page says it best:

We need to take due process seriously, but we also need to remember: this is not a democracy, this is not an experiment in anarchy, it's a project to make the world a better place by giving away a free encyclopedia.

User:Again's page does not make the world a better place, and it specifically fits what happens if anarchy reigns over WP. Until I am explicitly told not to make these edits by someone like Angela, Jimbo, or certain sysops/Wikimedia leaders who I would defer my decision to, I will continue to revert User:Again's page.

Sincerely, ral315 05:56, Jun 13, 2005 (UTC)

(P.S. - leave any comments on my talk page; I likely won't travel back to check yours too often)

So be it. Block me from editing. But my edits are not in bad faith; I truly and honestly believe that since WP policies contradict each other, and promoting warez on Wikipedia leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I respect your opinion, but in this case, I do not agree, and if you choose to block me, that's your choice. I did what I believed was right, feel free to do the same. ral315 06:14, Jun 13, 2005 (UTC)
  • I fully support User:Ral315's actions. They do not constitute vandalism; to the contrary, it is User:Again who is guilty of vandalism by using Wikipedia for promotion of illegal software. I request unblocking of User:Ral315, and a permanent block on User:Again and speedy deletion of his page. - Mike Rosoft 06:54, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Re: Minnie Riperton

Do me a favor. Read the article on Minnie Riperton. At the section where MAriah is discussed, is it me or is it a little too opinionated. I was going to fix it, but wanted a second opinion. I know she's the best selling female artist, but to say she "does it better" is not very factual (my ex-roommate loved Riperton, but didn't care for Carey). Did Mariah really do it better? Some may disagree.

Original:

  • In 1999, Mariah Carey mimicked Minnie in her song Bliss, the third track on her album Rainbow. Mariah can be heard singing the phrase 'On and On' in such a manner her voice sounds almost like a steaming tea kettle to illustrate her feelings.

Current:

  • In 1999, [[Mariah Carey),the only singer to do it better, mimicked Minnie in her song Bliss, the third track on her album Rainbow. Mariah can be heard singing the phrase 'On and On' in such a manner her voice sounds almost like a steaming tea kettle to illustrate her feelings. Mariah Sings way into the whistle register just as much if not more than Minnie. Mariah is the most notes singer for her extrordinary talents like Minnie, but not only because of her great high notes. This is why she is, at 35(2005), the biggest-selling female artist of the 90's, just to show how artists like Minnie Riperton and others have greatly influenced artist of today.

WP:SCH

While I understand your objections to WP:SCH and I would oppose any effort in making it official policy, I was wondering if you could suggest any alternative. It's not a consensus as much as it is a compromise (which understandably is not ideal for both parties; note that inclusionist User:CalJW also strongly objects to it because he feels it is too deletionist) but arguably it's better than repetitive shouting matches on VFD. Yours, Radiant_>|< 09:57, Jun 13, 2005 (UTC)

  • Yes, I understand your opinion, but how would you propose to do that in practice? At present there is no mechanism on the 'pedia to allow that, other than VFD - and school articles are not going to be VFD'able in the forseeable future. I suppose merging could be the alternative, as is proposed in WP:SCH. It is, after all, a compromise. Radiant_>|< 08:55, Jun 14, 2005 (UTC)

Schools

Thanks for all that you have done in trying to prevent this from becoming "The Wikiguide to All of the Schools in the World". I'm sorry that more people can't see that the average primary and middle schools (at least) simply aren't encyclopedic. I think I saw where this was heading when I couldn't get "Forsyth Primary School" deleted. I almost wish they'd spin schools of into a separate project like they have the "In Memoriam" for all of those non-notable deceased people. I'm far from a "deletionist", but it's getting ridiculous. Paper or not, it's still supposed to be an encyclopedia. Regards, Rlquall 10:45, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Whistle Register

How can we keep that Artimius Hollins crap off the page. Everytime I delete it (can't verify it with ANYBODY, not even some Atlanta musician friends, and you how I tend to lean toward keeping pople on Wikipedia), but if you read the edits, it reads like the guy is just adding whatever for exposure. For example:

Addition 1) Artimius Hollins of Atlanta also sing in the whistle register when singing in live venues. 23:14, 8 May 2005

Addition 2) Artimius Hollins of Atlanta also sing in the whistle register when singing in live venues.Artimius performed his original ballad "Turntable" which consist of G7# and a brief C8#. 15:30, 16 May 2005

After discussion on Mariah's use of melisma and Terry Ellis' staccato was added.

Addition 3) Finally, Artimius Hollins of Atlanta, Georgia uses the whistle register often in live venues. He is known for F7 and C8. After hearing him, he usesmelisma andstaccato to soar into his upper-octave range. 04:29, 29 May 2005

melisma and staccato are fairly opposite musical devices. It is hard to pack in multiple notes in a simple word and extend it (ex: singing bai-e-ah-e-ay-e-ay-e-ay-bee-ee-e, instead of baby) and make each note short and distinct. It was as if he was merely mimicking whatever was considered difficult by the article. C8 tough, and Minnie reverred for her F7. Hey, I do it too.

Addition 4) Artimius Hollinsof Atlanta,Georgia uses the whistle register often in live venues.

I asked the poster to create a bio page for 'Artimius Hollins', and add a link to where we can hear him. Never happens

Addition 5) Finally, After many people confirmed that it is true that a unknown singerArtimius Hollins of Atlanta.Georgia uses that whistle register in live venues. He is known for singing in the seventh octave.

Who is many people? Instead of unknown, why should we care? I'm ALL for adding people in the music that have created even a SMALL core following as I believe notably is subjective, but I simply do not believe this. It keeps returning. I'm going to kill it, but how do we keep it out (or verify that it should be in)

Antares33712 17:47, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

PS: I'm also 66.182.146.2, I simply forgot to log in.

Thanks, I just want the article to be as accurate as possible. You see the fuss over Adam Lopez (and we know he CAN pitch well up that high), so Artimius or whatever needs more verification and less dubious entrances into the article. Antares33712 21:17, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)
