Closing out VfD votes

Hey, Thue, how do you get the blue box to wrap around the VfD listing once an item is resolved? RickK 23:48, May 23, 2005 (UTC)

I insert
{{subst:vfd top}}: '''outcome'''. ~~~~
at the top and
{{subst:vfd bottom}}
at the bottom. Thue | talk 05:44, 24 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks :-)

Thanks RickK... I guess we all learn from our mistakes! I've certainly learned anyway... - Ta bu shi da yu 05:53, 24 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Friendly Chat

How are you, Rick? You are very sincere and honest. Those are two traits that I respect in a person. Thank you for not objecting to my nomination. By the way, is Stormie still active? I haven't heard from him in a long time. Take care, Tony the Marine

SODA

Hey Rick, do you drink soda? If so, how much and what brand is your favorite? - Andrew LIN

Don't bother answering him. See my talk page if you want to know why. This user (aka Andrew Lin) is using talk pages as platforms to annoy and spread his odd anti-soda campaign since his articles about the same have all been deleted or are up for VFD. - Jersyko 00:17, May 26, 2005 (UTC)

Copyvio?

Hi Rick, I'm kinda busy but just found this: Shaykh Khwaja Shamsuddin Azeemi which seems to be identical to the article Khawja Shams-ud-din Azeemi which you listed as a copyvio. - Mark 08:11, 26 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My userpage thanks

Hi RickK! Thanks for reverting the vandalism to my userpage! Do you have a clue as to why people hate me so much? Sjakkalle 09:32, 26 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Punkas

I've completely redone the Punkas article. I hope you have the time to check it. It may not be as much a candidate for deletion as it previously was. Tx.--McDogm 20:31, 26 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

Hi Rick, I noticed your revert at Template:Limitedgeographicscope. Why not discuss on Talk (keeping in mind that a revert is like a slap in the face)? — mark 22:56, 26 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Aha, I see that Ec5618 didn't use an edit summary — however, he actually did explain his reasoning on Template talk:Limitedgeographicscope before putting part of the words back in. — mark 23:04, 26 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
(replied over there) — mark 23:25, 26 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
(and again replied over there, but basically I was saying that I think we all need to cool down before we make a mountain out of a molehill) — mark 23:40, 26 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know where your ideas about this template being "anti-Western" come from, but for an excellent example of it being used to encourage expansion of an article whose limited geographic scope is quite obviously "anti-Western" in its implications, check out (or indeed help improve) Uses of torture in recent times. I found it through the template, and started adding some bits, but a whole lot of work remains to be done. - Mustafaa 00:25, 27 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Feel the hate

I'm hated more than you by at least one user! [1]. I wonder if that's an accomplishment.

hallo Rick - my students exercised as oceanographers, taking code from my space preparing for a German demonstration project on virtual university, the idea of Erik Moeller (user:eloquence) of the Wikiversity for online e-teaching and e-research and I offered my cooperation as teacher and my interactive virtual microscope for a course in Meeresbiologie and Biologie der Antarktis - for that project it is important to have reproducible credentials for the teachers. We also plan to move educational content from expensive university servers to the free project (in Germany we don't even have tuition in the University) - help us - or not - I really don't care if I am sysop or not, I have that all behind me - we try to help the NeXT generation - best greetings Uwe Kils PS we are searching for cooperators with real names

Personal attacks in Masjid e Tooba

Is suggesting that someone check the validity of what they nominate for deletion an attack in your eyes?

Is asking someone to be responsible for ten seconds of research before nomination (which then clearly takes the rest of us an order of magnitude higher to sort through) a personal attack in your eyes?

COUNTING Google hits is virtually worthless, LOOKING at the FIRST Google hit would have answered the rhetorical questions the nominator asked in his nomination. --Unfocused 21:02, 27 May 2005 (UTC) [reply]

Thank you, Rick

Hi Rick, I just wanted to thank you for your comments on the list. It's good to know there are editors out there with such a clear grasp of the true dynamics involved, and who are willing to take a stand in the interest of justice, fairness and, ultimately, improving the project. Yours, El_C 23:55, 27 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Soda

Why you're hatred for anti-soda information? - Andrew Lin

He's back, and vandalizing again. Would you mind doing the honors? Andrew, you know by now that wikipedia is not the proper forum for your little crusade, yet you persist. Tisk tisk. - Jersyko 01:23, May 28, 2005 (UTC)

User Argyrosargyrou's rants

You are longer than me on wikipedia, and probably know more about the policies - any idea on how to stop Argyrosargyrou converting the Cyprus dispute into a completely GC POV article, and accusing everyone of being Turkish apologists/propagandists/nationalists? I am a bit tired of reverting, and do not find it very effective editing like this either. - Snchduer 21:59, 28 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Which policies has he violated? I got a bit confused with them... - Snchduer 22:50, 28 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

More Sam Spade

Note that he is now using evidence which predates my adminship (the same evidence he used against me on my RFA), to claim I am a rogue admin. Unsurprsingly, the page is linked to his <big> signature,. [2] Now, anywhere he goes, he besmirches me, a new step for him. But I am concerned of the impact this would have on new users and my abilities to preform my admin duties (again, considering that his allegations are unrelated to any admin actions, or existence, on my part). Any thoughts? El_C 22:12, 28 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I placed a notice here. Please speak out against is harrasment of myself, Rick. Thank you. El_C 22:20, 28 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Albertofan

This time I did all the research (a lot) before I was gonna list the pages on Vfd, tried to give the benefit of the doubt. Although I knew someone would eventually list them, my last few Vfd's made me feel like an idiot after the outcome, so I'm putting more effort into the research. Sorry your the one who had to do all the rest of the cleanup work though. Thanks for noticing, and the help. <>Who 05:32, 29 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Boise media

I overwrote your redirect of Boise media to Radio and television in Boise, Idaho with my in-progress edit because the new title does not reflect the full nature of the article.

If you have a better, more fitting article title, feel free to move! Boisemedia 08:09, May 29, 2005 (UTC)

Rick, do you know if the Hindu Womens' Universe is mirroring Wikipedia articles? See [3]. I noticed its article is copyrighted 1994-2003. Just checking the Krishna Menon wikipedia article I noticed 95% of it is copied (?) wholesale from the hinduwomen website. JamesBurns 08:33, 30 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvios

I'm afraid I have made some very unpopular edits, and I would like to ask your advice/assistance. I have butchered the current India Collaboration of the week (Geography of India) and an article in peer review (Wikipedia:Peer review/Terrorism in Kashmir). In both cases, I reverted many and massive edits by several users because one of them seems to copy and paste his contributions from BBC news and similar sources. Guptadeepak has been warned by me and other editors some time ago, but he deleted the relevant comments from his talk page. Now he reverted my reverting of the first copyvio in Terrorism in Kashmir claiming I slaughtered the article. Can you please take a look? I know I should have checked all articles by that user when I warned him – I could have noticed the other problems a week earlier. Anything else I could have done better? Rl 14:52, 30 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I came here mostly because you are one of the people who seem to care about copyvios. I thought if someone copies whole paragraphs from other websites (unattributed), the standard remedy for previously existing articles is to roll back to the version before the copyvio took place. But now I see editors simply "refactor" the text (i.e. change a few words) to disguise the copyvio, and I seem to be the only one who considers that a problem. I have a pretty good understanding of the legal issues, but maybe I was wrong about how seriously these issues are taken at WP. Rl 19:27, 30 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't mean to insinuate that you or the project don't take them seriously. I am just frustrated since I see many editors take a very lenient stance towards copyvios (exemplified by "Wholesale copying should be discouraged, but there won't be any harmful consequences for Wikipedia if action is only taken in response to complaint. In other words, if individuals want to be vigilant, that's fine, but there's no need to encourage people to be so." from m:Avoid Copyright Paranoia). Sorry for the rant, thanks for your answers, I'll take my problem elsewhere now. Rl 20:02, 30 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

User:RickK's deletion of User:DoubleBlue's question

I wrote an open letter to you at Wikipedia_talk:Votes_for_deletion#User:RickK's deletion of User:DoubleBlue's question requesting more information on this issue. I would greatly appreciate your response there. Thank you, DoubleBlue (Talk) 03:34, 31 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

IT Audit page

RickK,

I saw that you had some concerns regarding the IT Audit page. I would be happy to address any of those concerns. I noticed that Wikipedia did not have an IT Audit material. I teach an IT audit class at Seattle U and suggested that they build out this content as a final project. This content is not intended to suit any specific purpose. It was really just to add content where we saw something missing.

Could you please remove your request for deletion? If you are concerned with the way the information is being presented, please provide guidance on how you would recommend that the students improve it. We are happy to re-format, present in another way, etc.

Thanks,

asparks1805 --Asparks1805 03:41, 31 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Heya, you've protected Leeroy Jenkins as a redirect; It was in fact VfDed and the outcome was delete. Perhaps it'd be better to replace it with the no-such-page-here-but-protected-against-vandalism template? The redirect really doesn't make any sense. (If you can't remember the name of the template either let me know, I'm sure I'll be able to find it with a little effort). Thanks. --W(t) 06:10, 2005 May 31 (UTC)

I didn't create the redirect. I don't remember who did, but when I saw that it was a blue link, and then saw that it was a redirect and not a new iteration of the same old article, I just protected it. If you think it shouldn't be a redirect, we can discuss it on Redirects for deletion, I have no opinion one way or the other. RickK 18:18, May 31, 2005 (UTC)
That would be Mgm, who agrees it should be deleted but couldn't remember the template either. Since he agrees it should be deleted and since it was VfDed as a delete, I don't think we need go through an RfD. (I've found the template again, it's {{deletedpage}}). --W(t) 00:33, 2005 Jun 1 (UTC)

My Talk page archive

I'm confused. My archive page is still where I left it. I just checked. I'm not sure what you mean by, "[I] put it into the article name space." Just so you know, the link to my archive is not visible from my talk page. Maybe that has something to do with it. Duckecho 21:31, 31 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, please (move it). Pick one site and please let me know which at duckecho@gmail.com. I'll recode the correct link on my talk page. Thanks. I don't know how that happened. I followed the directions...honest. I haven't seen you on the Schaivo talk page in a while. I'm starting to feel lonely. Duckecho 21:50, 31 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Anti Soda Advocate

Our friend Andrew Lin, now known as 68.170.0.238, is keeping up his health food/battery/anti-soda crusade. If you look at the more recent edits to his talk page, you'll get a sense of the conversation he and i have been having about editing wikipedia responsibly, yet he persists in posting articles that are biased and part of his odd crusade. He admits on my talk page that he's doing this because he "hates soda companies" etc. Anyway, sorry for the long explanation, but it's clear to me that he's not going to change his ways, so I guess I'm asking for another block. Thanks. - Jersyko talk 00:47, Jun 1, 2005 (UTC)

My apologies, Ricky. I am 18 years old and have much to learn about neutral point of view :( (See latest article on Standard American Diet I will stop talking about soda addictions. 68.170.0.238 06:33, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I made it

Rick, I made adminship. Its been quite a year. I will be counting on you for advice and guidance. Tony the Marine

Rick, if you don't like what I do as an admin, fine (aside from vandal rollbacks, everything is accounted for by the link on my user page—take a look and see if you can find something you honestly disagree with), but you ought to criticize specific points. Your claim that I disagree with everything other admins do is preposterous; the vast majority of admin actions I consider to be reasonable. What sets me off is when I see people being blocked even though they appear to have done more good than harm, simply because they got involved in some personality feud, or were considered to be stirring things up. And don't trash me on the mailing list where I can't defend myself, please. Everyking 06:38, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Repeat plagiarists

Does Wikipedia have a policy on editors who repeatedly plagiarise articles? Just did a check on User:AAAAA contributions after his outburst on Radiant. Noticed that not only the Aventura Mall contributions from AAAAA came from [4], but the Centraview article appears to be slapped together from the companies own website [5]. I then randomly picked a page, Francis M. Pottenger, Jr., and discovered AAAAA's contributions from [6] and [7]. There are likely to be more. Suggestions? JamesBurns 09:02, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)
