Range blocks

Hiya I saw you recent post at the village pump, and thought I'd come an teach you how you could have done it.

Firstly do a reverse DNS check to see the internet provider. If it's AOL give up. AOL is far too large, has far too many computers for you to ba able to block the vandal. You'll sucseed in blocking loads of legit users and probably won't get the actual vandal.

Assuming it's not AOL then proceed as follows,

64.12.116.10 through 64.12.117.22

Set the last digits to 0 64.12.116.0 ->> 64.12.117.0

do two /24 blocks 64.12.116.0/24 and 64.12.117.0/24 that will block a total of 512 IPs

Stick to /24 only if you are at all unsure about what you are doing. Note that /31 will block fewer than /24 and /16 will block a lot more. Never go lower than /16 ( I don't you you can in actual fact anyway) Also since range blocks catch innocents as well as vandals keep them short. Policy is 24 hours only I think.

Stress

Cookies!
Cookies!

You always seem to be under a lot of stress, what with dealing with trolls and vandals and people who just don't get it. Relax and have a cookie. You'll feel better (food allergies excepted). -- Cyrius| 06:18, 7 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Ulysses Disambiguation

You asked:

Hi. Why did you remove the disambiguation notice from Ulysses? RickK 02:45, 23 Feb 2004 (UTC)

I really do not remember doing that. I glad you fixed it. --chemica 02:03, 20 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Sleepy Hollow as Steampunk

Sleepy Hollow falls under the steampunk category because of the wacky and far out equipment that Ichabod Crane uses. From his telescoping glasses to his numerous wire and pulley worked cutting devices, the movie is full of quirky little devices of his that in no way reflect the 1799 time period of the movie.

A film doesn't have to have a Nautilus (20,000 Leagues/League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) or a giant steam-spider (Wild Wild West) to be steam punk. It has to have technology unavailable at the time. If Van Helsing can sit in that list because of a couple of spinning blades and a rapid fire bowgun, then Sleepy Hollow fits in with its odd implements, and I will place it back, or you should also delete Van Helsing if the only viable definition of steampunk is a film with a huge mechanical monstrosity gallivanting about. Heck, they even have Bram Stoker's Dracula on that list, and all the technology in that film (Seward's phonograph machine, moving pictures) isn't steampunk, but real life things availabe in the 1897 setting of that film. If that passes as steampunk, then Sleepy Hollow definitely does. --Gnrlotto

Dartmouth detritus

You would think that college students would have read the rules of conduct before they posted these articles. I just drifted by VfD and they're all over the place! I guess we'll be staring at these for the next five days, eh? - Lucky 6.9 07:07, 20 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Help in moving jpg image

Hi, RickK. Appreciate your work around the Wiki - we've intersected before on things Mojave Desert and elsewhere. I'm needing help moving an image User:TimShell placed erroneously into the Mojave Desert article. It's actually a picture of the Coachella Valley portion of the Colorado Desert, where it belongs (and I've discussed it with TS, and he agrees). The image name is "Image:MojaveDesert.jpg", which I'd like moved (if space and formatting permit) to the Colorado Desert article. Your kind consideration is appreciated! Happy Trails, --avnative 22:01, Aug 20, 2004 (UTC)

Yes, I think your instructions are what's needed to do the trick. Much appreciate you getting back to me. I'll be trying it out soon - to bed for now. --avnative

The moving of TV related pages

Please see User talk:Netoholic Mintguy (T) 08:41, 20 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Hi. I've made a proposal on Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (television) and asked that we restart the poll using more formal procedures and make it more publicised. Perhaps you would like to comment. I've asked Sean Curtain if he would like to administer the poll. I don't feel up to it myself due the my recent direct confrontations with Netoholic which has left me somewhat drained. Perhaps you might like to be involved in this also. Much appreciated. 10:03, 21 Aug 2004 (UTC)

I put this article up on Did you know? Tell me what you think, or if you can add to it. I think I got all the history right. Mike H 14:48, Aug 21, 2004 (UTC)

I have a number of good Donna shots from 1983 episodes I brought with me to Tampa, so as soon as I have the correct hardware, I will upload that, too. Mike H 14:50, Aug 21, 2004 (UTC)

As soon as the "Did you know?" thing passes from the front page, we can move the Donna stuff into a Donna Beck article. Mike H 19:10, Aug 21, 2004 (UTC)

The first 1983 episode I have was the fire at the cabaret. IIRC, Phoebe was throwing a benefit for "the children", and someone who wanted to steal all the jewels started a fire on accident. The baby was in the one room and Erica Kane was locked in another. Greg Nelson was in a wheelchair and had trouble getting out. Everyone was running away and Amanda Cousins was hysterical, because she couldn't lift him out of the wheelchair on her own. Mike H 19:12, Aug 21, 2004 (UTC)

Oh, and do you follow message boards at all? It has been heavily rumored on more than one that I follow that James Mitchell is gay. I've mentioned heavy internet rumors in articles such as Anthony Geary and Paul Anthony Stewart so this should be mentioned too, but I am not sure how. Mike H 19:16, Aug 21, 2004 (UTC)

SOAPnet, my friend, SOAPnet. Mike H 19:16, Aug 21, 2004 (UTC)

I have two tapes from Tad the Cad. One's here and the other is at home. I think the difference in the tapes is that I cut off the 2003 episodes on one tape. They aired one episode from 1983 (Tad makes love to Liza, Cliff sees Nina alive, and the Chateau burns down, and we don't know whether Erica or the baby will survive) and then another right after (Opal visits Jenny in New York and accuses Olga of pimping her daughter, Tad makes love to Marian when Liza is held up by interfering Mrs. Nelson). Then there are two from 1996 but they're not as good. There's confrontation between Tad and Liza and then Tad and Marian based on past history, but the other stories are REALLY dumb (bringing Noah and Julia back to life in Jamaica, blah blah Edmund and Maria are happy happy happy). The only interesting story from 1996 other than Tad was when Dimitri confronted Erica about cheating on him with Jonathan Kinder. Mike H 19:28, Aug 21, 2004 (UTC)

About the gay bit, as long as you clearly label that it's speculation but feverish at that, it should be fine. If you just put "James Mitchell is gay" then yeah, it would be wrong. The only out soap stars I know were past ones: Thom Bierdz and George Reinholt. Mike H 19:33, Aug 21, 2004 (UTC)

I never liked JR to begin with (I started watching when Edmund was set to marry Brooke in 2002, and the actor who played him then was HORRIBLE with a capital FUCK OFF), so the fact that Jacob Young makes me hate him is kinda par for the course. Plus, I never thought Jacob was a great actor. It's like, canceling out the value of a Daytime Emmy. He's hot, though, and I heard he was totally fucking the guy who played Nikolas on GH. Not Tyler but the other one. Hot.

Oh, and is this too POV? See. Mike H 19:51, Aug 21, 2004 (UTC)

Okay, good. I need to know how to reword it, because that was why she was hired. Constance Ford and Douglass Watson were hired for the same reasons. Mike H 19:58, Aug 21, 2004 (UTC)

It was actually in a book I have, called "All My Afternoons" by Annie Gilbert. It was first published in 1978 so it's probably out of print now. Mike H 20:01, Aug 21, 2004 (UTC)
