Playhouse Disney is the brand name for Disney Channel's preschool programs, often airing as its own channel outside of the United States. The brand name was rolled out in 1997 when Disney Channel moved from premium cable to basic cable. It is the main competitor to Nick Jr. in most countries.

Programming

As of 2007, the current Playhouse Disney lineup is: Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Little Einsteins, Handy Manny, Johnny and the Sprites (weekends only), Higglytown Heroes, JoJo's Circus, Charlie and Lola, The Wiggles, The Doodlebops, The Koala Brothers, Bear in the Big Blue House (weekends only) My Friends Tigger & Pooh (weekends only) , and Stanley.

There are also short features, lasting one to three minutes, that air between the shows: Ooh, Aah & You, Lou and Lou: Safety Patrol, Dan Zanes House Party, Choo-Choo Soul, Feeling Good with JoJo, Go Baby!, Shanna's Show, Shane's Kindergarten Countdown, Captain Carlos, This is Daniel Cook, and This is Emily Yeung.

Past shows that are no longer on the air include: The Book of Pooh, Rolie Polie Olie, PB&J Otter, and Out of the Box.

History

Playhouse Disney started on Disney Channel in 1997. In 2007, Playhouse Disney and its website [1] received substantial upgrades to their on-air graphics and website. Also, Clay was replaced with two monkey hosts, one red and one blue. The programming announcer Allyce Beasley was completely removed and all new promos have a new voice.

Starting May 28th, 2007, Playhouse Disney's weekday time slot will be cut back from 12 p.m. to 10 a.m. Its start time and its weekend schedule airings will remain unchanged. Disney Channel Original series will now air, and Boy Meets World will air here instead of the late night viewing hours.
