Revision as of 04:09, 25 June 2003

The purpose of this page is to provide instant notice of vandalism taking place. You can use the format under the Current Alerts heading: IP address, pages touched, damage done. For a more comprehensive guide for dealing with different types of vandalism, see Dealing with vandalism.

For a list of currently blocked IPs and the reason why they were blocked, visit: Special:Ipblocklist.

If you would like to look up information about the vandal's IP please visit http://network-tools.com/ and enter in the IP.

However, please do not label isolated instances of text deletions, replacements or odd additions as VANDALISM unless they seem intentionally overly lewd or offensive. More often than not, this is just a visitor to the site experimenting with how to use it (also see newbie test) -- labeling them as a VANDAL is a sure way of ensuring they will not become contributors. Only add alerts to this page of true VANDALISM such as a systematic attack on several articles. Above all, please be polite at first and give the person the benefit of the doubt until they prove they deserve otherwise.

If you disagree with someone's edits, please see the following pages:

Note: Please add new alerts at the top of this list.

Current alerts

  • I am curious about the information being added to articles by 24.132.21.163. He is adding essentially the same information to several articles. His contributions are worth looking at. -- goatasaur
    • His latest contributions look fine, altough they may be inaccurate, I have no idea. MB 03:18 25 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • His additions to the September 11th pages are okay. He did, however, plagiarize a large amount of material from http://www.fas.org in another article. -- goatasaur
  • OK, here we go again.. 24.130.213.242 is MICHAEL, see contributions -- Rotem Dan 23:13 24 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • I have blocked that IP. FearÉIREANN 00:05 25 Jun 2003 (UTC)
  • User:Michaelism (aka Michael) is busy with edit wars, vandalism, and general abuse, for example, renaming users' home pages to User:Penis. Can someone block him, please? -- The Anome 19:26 23 Jun 2003 (UTC)
  • Levinson recursion is being used as a chat page again by Indian(?) vandals. IP bans requested.
    • Same IP addresses as last time. I have banned both ends of the conversation. Can someone tell what language they are using? -- The Anome 10:56 23 Jun 2003 (UTC)
  • 217.215.25.79 seems to be trying to use the Wikipedia to advertise an internet firewall product of no encyclopedic interest. Kat 15:51 20 Jun 2003 (UTC)
  • 205.188.209.69 seems to be Michael. Can someone look over the historical edits from this IP address and make sure he hasn't managed to slide anything in? I'd do it myself, but I'd dead tired.... --Dante Alighieri 11:04 20 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Articles with information, which don't seem to have been reverted: Super Bowl, Scott Reynor (Redirect to different spelling, redirect to article edited by similar, but different, IP), Jules Hardouin Mansart, Hippogriff, and a few year articles have had nl: langauge links at the top. Think everything else by that IP was reverted at some point. Looks quite possible they were edited by different people with the same IP address.
  • 24.34.38.186 is editing various things to do with Quebec, deleting huge chunks out of the articles. Adam Bishop 00:41 19 Jun 2003 (UTC)
  • 68.4.122.197 is blanking articles at random. Damage so far: 11 articles. -- Heron 20:35 18 Jun 2003 (UTC)
  • Michael seems to be back as 24.104.48.252 (interesting, by the way, that a page edited by him, Nine Inch Nails, gives some details about the psychic state of one Michael Trent Reznor whose first name has been chosen for username by our misled fried)
    • Are you sure? That's not a known IP range for him, is it? What about the edits makes you think it's Michael? --Dante Alighieri 19:19 18 Jun 2003 (UTC)
  • Ouch! Seems that 24.104.48.252 changed the date in The Downward Spiral to the correct year. Michael´s favourite pages + date changes -> suspect. In this case probably false alarm. See Avoid michaelism paranoia. Sorry. 145.254.41.254
  • 24.210.44.203 IP blocked based after this edit: "This is a test to find out if they're really so stupid as to let the general public update a web-page with any info they want.WANKERS!" -- The Anome 22:35 16 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • I cannot see why such an edit should justify a user being blocked. The quantifier of persistent vandalism is the number of repetitive malicious edits, not the content. There have been arguably repetitive edits that are considered much more offensive but didn't get an immediate block as in this case. -- Rotem Dan 12:34 17 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • This should probably be unblocked now, it's a day later, and this looks like drive-by vandalism.
    • Someone has unblocked 24.210.44.203 now. Thanks. The Anome 14:53 17 Jun 2003 (UTC)
  • Questionable edit or vandalism: I'm not sure what to make of this but the article Gerbil has an odd paragraph which was inserted 22:49 18 Mar 2003 by Rlandmann. His contribution list isn't short. Usedbook 14:05 15 Jun 2003 (UTC)
  • (I hope I'm doing this right) 209.130.147.214 has vandalized 3 pages, 1 of which he has vandalized twice. He seems to find it funny to repeatedly change The Wind Waker to Wanker. u_u;
  • 67.122.114.153 appears to be Michael, and has made a lot of changes that have gone unnoticed. Could someone else confirm that this is him? MB 21:34 12 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • I can´t prove that it was him, but the pattern is highly suspicious. Reverted his contributions. Also, another anonymous user 207.103.58.54 tried to insert a false date in Van Halen (a hallmark of michaelism). Kosebamse 06:43 13 Jun 2003 (UTC)
  • Someone is editing out the duress the USA applied to Denmark to sell the Virgin Islands. I shall again try to restate it as impartially as possible. PML.
  • Spectral envelope keeps on being re-created, even though repeatedly deleted for lack of encyclopedic content. Someone appears to be using it as a "chat page"... The Anome 09:39 9 Jun 2003 (UTC)
  • 137.222.10.58 adds insulting text in articels like Bill Gates andy 16:29 5 Jun 2003 (UTC)
  • 216.20.1.214 and 216.20.1.218 created a gibberish vandal page. Keep an eye out. MB 16:08 5 Jun 2003 (UTC)
  • User:205.188.209.107 reverts to Michael's content, see contributions, the IP has a history of Michael-type edits. -- Rotem Dan 14:29 5 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • 205.188.20*.* is Michael again. Keep a watch out on this ip range. MB 14:55 5 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Michael is now also editing as User:Fuck. The Anome 15:32 5 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • And as User:Weezer/NOFX as well. andy 14:50 6 Jun 2003 (UTC)
  • In Satellite, various IPs in the 213.249.155.xxx range have been making trivial page defacements (examples: "SCHOOL IS CRAP", "I CAN SEE WHAT YOURE DOING KATIE"). Children? The Anome 10:43 5 Jun 2003 (UTC)
  • User:149.101.1.119 had been adding in dodgy and blatently POV rubbish to articles. For example, they wrote in Patrick Pearse Pearse was educated by the Christian Brothers, and it is unlikely he would have become as zealously unhinged a nationalist had he attended a non-Catholic shool. While some of their additions are OK, some beggar belief. I have had to do a couple of revertions of changes they have made, as have other Irish users. This person needs to have a very close eye kept on their work. FearÉIREANN 19:43 4 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • I think it was just a temporary burst of enthusiasm and not understanding the concept of NPOV. I left a message on their talk page and while there still are some problems (over wrong capitalisation, etc), the POV additions have ceased. But it is still worth keeping an eye on their work, not for deliberate vandalism but for misguided changes, a couple of which I have reverted, with a message on their talk page explaining why and how their changes (probably innocently) went against naming conventions and agreed methods of working. FearÉIREANN 23:54 6 Jun 2003 (UTC)
  • User:Eddie claims he's not Michael, but systematically reverts all of Michael's clouded content. See contributions -- Rotem Dan 18:47 4 Jun 2003 (UTC)
  • Blocked 24.130.213.242, apparently another tentacle of the Michael / etc. entity. The Anome 22:44 31 May 2003 (UTC)
  • I have now unbanned a bunch of AOL proxy addresses in the 152.163.xxx.xxx range. This may let Michael/Crass/Weezer etc. back in, in which case please ban them again: you can see the list in an old revision of my talk page. The Anome 22:30 31 May 2003 (UTC)
  • User:Michael/Crass is back, again. (a) Edit comments of the form "I'm gonna rape you!!!" are abusive/threatening behavior that is grounds for banning. (b) Michael/Crass/Weezer etc. is already hard banned, and knows it. The Anome 17:07 31 May 2003 (UTC)
  • User:203.97.2.242 has flipped from making earnest contributions to vandalizing several articles related to New Zealand. -- Heron
  • OK, what are we gonna do about 205.188.xx.xx? --Dante Alighieri 21:22 28 May 2003 (UTC)
    • and now 152.163.xxx.xxx appears to be an IP-hopping persistent vandal of the Michael / Weezer variety The Anome 22:34 28 May 2003 (UTC)
    • Same person, and if you check my or John Owens user pages, he fully claims to be Michael. --Dante Alighieri 22:36 28 May 2003 (UTC)
    • The addresses used are AOL addresses in 152.163.0.0/16. AOL abuse contact phone number is +1-703-265-4670. The Anome 22:44 28 May 2003 (UTC)
    • Note that as these are probably AOL proxies, we will need to unban them in a bit, to avoid locking out lots of bona fide AOL users. The Anome
    • I agree, I think we should probably un-ban the ones I banned recently after 48 hours or so. --Dante Alighieri 22:53 28 May 2003 (UTC)
  • 204.60.89.167 is vandalizing the year articles, especially 1960 or 60 seem to be his favourite targets. Seems to have stopped for now, but needs more monitoring. andy 15:17 28 May 2003 (UTC)

  • 66.126.134.?? is running rampant and vandalising multiple pages and needs to be blocked. Lisiate 22:53 26 May 2003 (UTC)
  • User:Administration (contribs) is vandalising random articles, by replacing them with poor attempts at humour. S/he seems to be able to pump them out at an impressive rate, so I'm reverting everything on sight. -- Tim Starling 14:36 25 May 2003 (UTC)

It isn't malicious vandalism, but it must be stopped. 217.235.14.62 did a fine job adding ISO information to existing articles, but is now creating articles with only ISO information in them. • 207.28.99.82 created new entry Rory Storm with the sole content GOOD CHARLOTTE. Seems to be this address' sole entry. Looks suspicious, anyone know anything about Rory Storm? -- Arwel 20:38 Apr 25, 2003 (UTC)
He led a skiffle group in the 1960s. No relevence I can see. -- Infrogmation 01:25 Apr 26, 2003 (UTC)
I thought the name was familiar! I know "Good Charlotte" is a current popular beat combo, M'Lud, but no relation to our Rory :-). Thanks for deleting the entry again. -- Arwel 01:31 Apr 26, 2003 (UTC)
I'll work on a Rory Storm article soon. When you hear the few tracks of his band, it is quite amazing how much artistic influence they had on the beatles. Ringo was the drummer of Rory's band before switching over to the Beatles. Kingturtle 21:28 Apr 29, 2003 (UTC)

  • 63.105.22.154 has been making 3/4's nonsense changes so far. Please ban, and revert all changes to articles on which it is the last author. user_talk:hfastedge
    • Seems taken care of; still existing edits okay. -- Infrogmation 01:25 Apr 26, 2003 (UTC)

68.78.105.255 and 206.148.78.98 are apparently sharing a single brain, mostly putting wikis in articles that direct to YOUR MOTHER. -- goatasaur

  • 68.161.238.220 is blanking MASSIVE amounts of articles, mostly dealing with Laos. He needs to be quickly banned. -- goatasaur. Actually I think this user is deleting his own articles which have been ruled to be violations of copyright. Chadloder 01:08 Apr 18, 2003 (UTC)
    • He is blanking articles that many other people have worked on in conjunction with him. Wanton blanking of others' work (even in an article you have contributed to) is against the rules. -- goatasaur
      • He appears to have stopped now. The deletions have been reverted (and in some cases, rephrased to avoid any potential copyright problems) so there seems no need for further action. Tannin 01:49 Apr 18, 2003 (UTC)
  • 216.39.137.110 the noted vandal with the predeliction for the Ptolemy Dynasty and fictious Cleopatras has reappeared. Only one vandalism so far, but expect more. -- Someone else 22:41 Apr 17, 2003 (UTC)
    • I blocked that IP address right off the bat, but he's been known to use more than one, so keep an eye out regardless. -- John Owens 22:44 Apr 17, 2003 (UTC)

Minor vandalism:

  • 129.119.170.222 has been talking on some boxing pages without facts, just opinions, and has commited some vandalism, like saying that Wilfredo Gomez is arrogant, on the Salvador Sanchez page, and that Felix Trinidad is a Puerto Rican tomato can. He should be banned because his obvious hate of Puerto Ricans and love of Mexicans (for the record I like Mexicans a lot I think all Latinos are brothers and sisters) makes him have no neutral edge and he writes in an unencyclopedic way, and he conveniently erases everything that has to do with Puerto Ricans doing well or Mexicans doing bad. (When I said in the article Gomez is known among many Mexicans as The Mexican beater, which he is known as, he erased that, when I put he beat Lupe Pintor, also Mexican he erased the also Mexican part.

God knows what else he'll do against Puerto Ricans on wikipedia.

Antonio bi transvestite Martin

The last time he edited was on 7 April 2003. So I don't see any need for a ban. --mav
