If you feel that I have reverted an edit or issued a warning in error, please let me know. I am human, and I do make mistakes. Please don't interpret an error on my part as a personal attack on you. It's not, I promise. I ask you to simply bring it to my attention; I am always open to civil discussion. Thank you. --John B123 (talk) 15:42, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Miha2020, the draft has been submitted for AfC review. As I am not an AfC reviewer it would be inappropriate for me to bypass that process, sorry. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 06:57, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Miha2020, do you mean List of Olympic medalists in karate? As per my reply above, I'm not an admin so can't delete pages. There's nothing to stop you changing the redirect into an article by editing the page. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 07:23, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Where the sources are

Hi! You've tagged one article as unsourced [1]. However, it did have a quite a hefty bibliography. You just need to scroll to the end. – Uanfala (talk) 15:02, 5 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Uanfala, the article needs inline citations for verification. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 15:05, 5 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There's no requirement for articles to have inline references; a bibliography at the end is an acceptable format for the presentation of an article's sources, see WP:GENREF. If you believe that in a given case, inline references are desirable, you can use {{No footnotes}} (though I think it's usually more helpful to {{cn}}-tag the individual pieces of information that need such a reference). Thanks! – Uanfala (talk) 15:09, 5 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Have to disagree there, per WP:UNSOURCED, All content must be verifiable... and it is satisfied by providing an inline citation to a reliable source that directly supports the contribution. --John B123 (talk) 15:25, 5 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think you might find it useful to read the rest of the section you're quoting. In-line sources are only required for quotations and for material that has been challenged (or is likely to be challenged). Again, you can challenge any part of the article that you find dubious, but that won't make the whole article unsourced. See also the documentation of the template, particularly the section Template:Unreferenced#When to use. – Uanfala (talk) 16:05, 5 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I have read the section many times. In practice, any part of an article can be challenged so there is a requirement for inline citations. --John B123 (talk) 16:43, 5 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

See this article too: it's got an IMDB reference (tucked away in the "External links" section). It's not a great source by any means, but it is a source. Similarly for this, this, this, this, and this. – Uanfala (talk) 11:28, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Uanfala: Did you not read my reply here? Now please stop stalking and harassing me. --John B123 (talk) 11:38, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
John B123, you are regularly using the incorrect template. In the response you've linked you invoke "ignore all rules", but that makes sense when there is at least some benefit in ignoring the rules. When you tag as unreferenced articles that have references, this brings no benefits that I can see and it creates two problems. First, it pollutes the maintenance categories and makes it more difficult for editors to find the actually unsourced articles that may need serious attention. Second, it sends the wrong message to new users: what would a newly editor think of Wikipedia's working environment if their article is "curated" with a message that's obviously incorrect?
There's one very easy way for you to make me stop "harassing" you: all you need to do is refrain from making incorrect use of the unreferenced template. Yes, we all make mistakes, but we notice them, learn from them, and then move on: that's alright. But insisting on continuing to make those mistakes is not alright. – Uanfala (talk) 12:04, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Uanfala: I had started to reply to you here, but as have decided to bring it up elsewhere I won't bother. --John B123 (talk) 12:22, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Attention for review

Hello, brother how are you? I kindly asking for review page of Rafsan The Chotobhai which you tagged notability. Its now contains more reliable sources. Thanks have a lovely day. Much regard. Abdul Kaium Tito (talk) 22:44, 5 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Abdul Kaium Tito, sorry I still can't see how he meets the notability guidelines. Most of the references on the age are interviews with him. You need to provide references that show he has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject as per WP:GNG. Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia. FireflyBot (talk) 22:03, 6 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly thank you for your constructive edits. The first one I reverted simply because nearly every single football club's player list on Wikipedia does not include references - that is standard practice. The second edit you made is a warning of link rot. Again, nearly all references concerning football teams are bare URLS as is standard practice. However I will leave that one up a day or two just to educate newer users on a more sensible way to add references if they have time. Reaper7 (talk) 22:12, 6 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Reaper7. In general terms, lists don't need references if the individual items in the list have their own pages. If you look at say Manchester United F.C., all the players have their own pages so there is no need for references. (Effectively, the individual pages are the references.) In the case of Olympiacos B, 40% of the players don't have pages so need to be referenced, either individually, or by a single ref that covers the whole list. The existence of other pages using bare urls is not a justification to remove the {{linkrot}} tag. Please see WP:MTR. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 07:11, 7 August 2021 (UTC) (Struck through after noticing refs had been filled) --John B123 (talk) 07:42, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I disagree strongly, even when a minority - as is the case, of footballers have no pages - it is rarely if ever seen for all those players without a page have references in the squad list. However, I am tired of battling - I managed to get the page saved from the user who deleted it for not being notable(?) but now he has seen your tag - he has double down and deleted the entire squad list. I tried.. Reaper7 (talk) 13:41, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Reaper7, policy is clear in WP:VERIFY: All content must be verifiable ... and it is satisfied by providing an inline citation to a reliable source that directly supports the contribution. The fact that other articles do not follow this requirement does not set a precedent as verifiability is one of the 3 Core content policies. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 13:57, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Not 'other articles.' 99% of other club articles don't follow this rule concerning lists. However if you wish to double down, I fully respect your right to do so. However, the entire section has been deleted now using your tag as an excuse. I afraid you are simply rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic so to speak with this argument. It's over. Reaper7 (talk) 14:23, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Reaper7: I'm not rearranging anything, just stating Wikipedia policy. --John B123 (talk) 14:36, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Asking for review

Hi Brother how are you? Its been a month I have created Bangladesh national under-23 football team results but its didn't review. Can I know the reason? God bless. Much love and regard. III69 (talk) 13:16, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi III69, I'm good thanks, hope you are too. The article needs more references, the Soccerway ref only goes back to 2014 and the GSA ref only shows 2019 onwards matches. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 13:30, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I did added more 5 references. Please check it Bangladesh national under-23 football team results. Thanks brother. III69 (talk) 14:23, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi III69, the references you added are for matches from 2019 on, you need to add references for the earlier matches. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 14:40, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Joao Constancia

Hi there, I see you've reverted the page move for the article Joao Constancia. This is getting confusing so instead of me reverting it back I would like to request you to revert it back to Joao Constancia, instead of Joāo Constancia (with the accent). The figure in question's name when appearing in most media sources, as well as film posters, does not have the accent (it appears as Joao Constancia) . Therefore, per Wikipedia:Diacritical marks, the article name should not have the accent.

Thank you. Koikefan (talk) 18:39, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Koikefan, it certainly got me confused! The reason for my reversion was that the page had been copy and pasted rather than being moved to preserve the page history. I'll move it back to Joao Constancia. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 18:42, 7 August 2021 (UTC)--John B123 (talk) 18:42, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that's my bad. I blanked it and copy and pasted because I thought that was the way to manually revert it. I see now that was a mistake (hence why I'm now hesitant to revert it back myself). Anyway, thank you for understanding. Koikefan (talk) 18:45, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, I've sorted it now. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 18:48, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello John Sir, Kindly review the Coated fabric. Should I name it Coated fabrics. I am confused. Thanks RV (talk) 06:44, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi RV, all done. There seems to be a mixture of singular and plural in similar articles so no real precedent. The text is written in the plural so moving to Coated fabrics would make sense. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 07:28, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your advice is needed please

Hi John, I'm sorry to reach out, but you're the only editor I can ask. I've been away for a while writing new stories, recently I came back to Wikipedia to update information on Wongamat Tower, an article I created. What happened next is irritating. The same person who repeatedly tried to delete the articles you approved is trying to make it worse. Is there a Wikipedia method that protects such actions? I find this behavior very disrespectful from the start. It doesn't really encourage anyone to do anything on Wikipedia. Please take a look at my talk page and advice. Thank you. Meow2021 (talk) 13:05, 9 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Meow2021. I'm not sure there's a lot you can do apart from ride out the storm. I've added a comment on the COI noticeboard. --John B123 (talk) 14:44, 9 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks John, understand now. Can I invite you to take a look at the page Mario Kleff for deletion and feedback what you think. There's edits before deletion, I don't understand this either. What is wrong with the articles and writing? It's not funny creating anything really. Regards Meow2021 (talk) 16:15, 9 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Meow2021, the edits were removing some content that the editor saw as promotional. I'm halfway through something else at the moment but will add a comment on the deletion discussion. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 17:30, 9 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi John B123, Thank you very much, I appreciate your feedback as it has guided me through the steps of the learning phase. Regards Meow2021 (talk) 13:25, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Meow2021, I did try to add a comment at the AfD but ended up getting into an argument over it. To be honest with you, I'm getting close to jacking in WP. No mater how hard you try, there's always somebody ready to jump in and tell you you're doing it wrong. After a while you start to wonder why you bother. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 16:07, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think WP should be happy to have you on board! I am. You guided me, advised me in the event of an error and with kindness. There weren't many others. Thanks for that! And I hope that didn't hurt you too much. Kind Regards Meow2021 (talk) 16:28, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thomas G. Falzarano

Hi, I am thinking of creating an article of Thomas G. Falzarano, who is not a general officer but whose death has received wide secondary coverage. In your opinion, would an article on this subject meet WP:GNG? KingEdinburgh (talk) 11:32, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi KingEdinburgh, as you probably know flag officers are generally regarded as notable but other officers need to show they meet GNG. Obituary type article don't normally count towards GNG, the logic being that if somebody is notable then there would have been evidence of this (ie WP:SIGCOV in articles) prior to their death. Obituaries also tend to be written in a positive way rather than in a more objective way of other coverage. A quick look on google didn't seem to bring up much apart from articles prompted by his death. Unless you can find a couple of sources that give in depth coverage about him that weren't written soon after his death, I doubt whether the article would pass GNG. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 15:59, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I and a colleague put together facts and references to write an article about a town called Mim in Ahafo Region

We realized that, there were many Mim on Wikipedia. So we made it Mim (Ghana).

However, the feedback we are getting is to make it Mim Ahafo because addding the Ahafo identifies the town more.

More so, those who want to know much about the town do search for Mim Ahafo and that's not giving easy access to the article. Boadu Emma (talk) 18:47, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Is it allowed to pull down the first article and republished it under the appropriate name Mim Ahafo? Boadu Emma (talk) 18:48, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Because it's in Ahafo Region, everyone search for Mim Ahafo instead of Mim Ghana.

Your advice is needed Boadu Emma (talk) 18:51, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

On the Egypt head of state dispute

There was no discussion about redirecting this situation is completely unfair you merged the article and now i have to argue for the articles existence plus if i do anything i have the threat of getting banned how in your opinion is this fair. Also you redirected to a list of lists and a lot of them are lists of governors of egypt when egypt was under foreign control please restore the old article . I think it should have all the independent rulers of Egypt there are similar articles like this why redirect this one if you respond please send a message to my talk page

@Friendlyhistorian: I haven't merged anything. As you've been asked several times, please discuss it on the talk page. That is the correct procedure as per WP:BRD. If you think the existing lists are bad then the answer is to improve them. If the think the titles are not the best, then start a move discussion. --John B123 (talk) 15:34, 12 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

When i say merged i meant the redirection of the article secondly i am willing to talk to the talk page of Lists of rulers of Egypt as for improving the various lists i would love too but i don't have the skill and the knowledge do it. Also sorry if i was rude in my previous message. i am just so frustrated by the situation. I would ask you to please reconsider the redirection i think it would be better if the kept the article and expanded it. I think it would better for the readers a lot of the lists are not proper list they usually show a list of rulers form a article about a specific dynasty i think it would be better if we copied them and put the them on the original and expanded that is my idea obviously i can't do it but you probably know a user that could do that.

@Friendlyhistorian: The problem is that we shouldn't have duplicated content on Wikipedia. The guidelines are to delete the newer article (WP:A10) or redirect it. Either List of monarchs of the Muhammad Ali dynasty and List of Presidents of Egypt need to redirect to List of heads of state of Egypt, or List of heads of state of Egypt needs to redirect. Alternatively, it needs to be shown that although there is duplication there are valid reasons to have two similar pages. Either way, the guidelines are that List of heads of state of Egypt should be a redirect until consensus on the talk page is to change some or all of the articles. Hope this makes the situation clearer. --John B123 (talk) 17:30, 12 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the information i understand the rules for duplication which is why i propose we expanded the original article to include other rulers from others dynasties i would like your opinion of that .I also would like to ask a question i would love to reach a consensus but since only you and i are discussing it how are we going to reach a consensus on the talk page is there any other way of solving this ?

@Friendlyhistorian: That's certainly one idea. There's already a conversation started at Talk:List of heads of state of Egypt. It would probably be as well to add your proposals to that conversation as far more people are likely to see it there. --John B123 (talk) 18:45, 12 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy delete of Arturo Calle

I have to confess I am frustrated by the speedy deletion of the Arturo Calle article. The post on my talk page appeared at 16:24 with a banner that gives opportunity to protest or expand the article and at this time it is already delayed. I cited two good sources demonstrating he is a notable person and now the article is deleted? How do I get the stub back easily so I can expand the content? Unbelievable! Alan.ca (talk) 23:03, 16 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Alan.ca, see WP:REFUND. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 06:08, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That page suggests I should request the undelete from the admin who deleted it on their talk page. How do I find out which admin deleted it? Alan.ca (talk) 12:56, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Alan.ca, I see the page has been restored now. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 16:12, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks John, this is my first BLP article and I haven’t created an article in a long time. Any suggestions for the article? It’s hard for me to write too much because the subject is mainly covered by Spanish publications. Alan.ca (talk) 20:01, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Alan.ca, the article comes across of promotional, with phrases like most recognized entrepreneur. (Looking at the source [3], it reads like it may be a paid-for article). As his son now runs the company, their achievements during covid aren't really relevant. In general terms, biographical articles need to be about the subject, not about their company. Whilst English sources are preferable it's perfectly ok to use Spanish sources if they are the only ones available. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 20:27, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ok thanks. I will see what I can find out and build it up. Alan.ca (talk) 15:36, 18 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

WP:STUBSPACING

Hi there, John. Thanks for reviewing my newly created articles.

I see that you frequently review triage new articles and I saw you often add stub tags to a few of them so I thought I'd point out WP:STUBSPACING. It states that we should "leave two blank lines between the first stub template and whatever precedes it." Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 17:05, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Robby.is.on, thanks for the info. I use a script to review the new pages which also adds tags if needed. I'll pass this on to the people who look after the script. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 17:23, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That'd be great. Thanks a lot. Happy editing, Robby.is.on (talk) 17:25, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ski jumping hills sources - Bolgenschanze

How much more "reliable" sources and additional citations is needed for Bolgenschanze (1928, new hill) and other similar ski jumping hills? Sportomanokin (talk) 18:02, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sportomanokin. It's not the number of sources that matters, but per WP:VERIFY all the contents need to be verified. For example in Bolgenschanze (1928, new hill), the first two and last paragraphs of 'History' and the 'Hill and world records' section need to be referenced. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 18:09, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
To source every sentence or paragraph, that is just ridiculous. It is sourced what needs to be sourced. In the history of this sport, hill is widely and mostly known as the site of world records (prestigious category in ski jumping), which are by the way already sourced in the history section and I really don't know why they need to be sourced again in the world record list/table? Without WR no one would care or even heard for this hill, especially there were never no huge international events there such as World Cup, World Championships, Olympics or other important international events. Sportomanokin (talk) 18:37, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Please read WP:VERIFY. If you don't agree with the guideline please bring it up at Wikipedia talk:Verifiability. Of the 8 entries in the table, 3 are not mentioned in the history section, 2 are mentioned but not referenced, only 3 are sourced in the history section. --John B123 (talk) 18:55, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

See Talk:Prostitution_in_Afghanistan#Wild_POV_pushing_by_User:John_B123. You started that nonsense again? You believe women are sold in Afghanistan? You believe prostitution is thriving there? This article is not a place where anyone can just anything they want. Only relevant content belongs there and there must be sufficient reliable sources to back up the claim.--39.41.79.238 (talk) 00:09, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't started anything, in fact I hadn't even edited the article since 20 March 2021‎ until you started POV pushing again and adding unsubstantiated claims such as The number of prostitutes in Afghanistan is relatively small. --John B123 (talk) 12:02, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Why do you get upset by that? When you compare Afghanistan with other countries, especially its neighboring countries, the number of prostitutes is relatively small in Afghanistan. There are many reasons for that and one of them is that it leads to death in Afghanistan, and nobody wants to die over such immaterial thing. Prostitution is not favored in Pakistan and Iran but it's openly everywhere. Nobody is denying or disputing this. In Central Asian states and in China, it's not only openly everywhere but also legal. It's always better to add accurate information in Wikipedia.--39.41.79.238 (talk) 23:16, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
About this, you actually believe that? Who is The Pakistan Frontier? If that had any truth it would've been openly talked about by all Afghans, especially the Taliban, and presented in every Afghan media outlet. This shows that you're here for other purposes than to improve the article.--39.41.79.238 (talk) 23:44, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
39.41.79.238 I have reverted your large-scale removals of almost 1000 bytes from the article. If you have a problem with a specific source, like this one you've mentioned, the proper place for such a discussion is WP:Reliable Sources Noticeboard (WP:RSN). Buckshot06 (talk) 04:55, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Additional details about Afghan women being sex-traffic'ed to India are at https://www.newageislam.com/islam-women-feminism/syed-nazakat/human-trafficking-cattle-kabul/d/10419; State Department TIP report for 2020 says "Afghan men, women, and children pay intermediaries to assist them in finding employment abroad, primarily in Iran, Pakistan, and Europe; some intermediaries and employers force Afghans into labor or sex trafficking. Some Afghan women and girls who are sold to husbands in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, and India are exploited in sex trafficking and domestic servitude by their new husbands.." [4]; earlier TIP reports confirm such activities.
Importantly, the 2008 IOM report specifically highlights how utterly taboo the subject actually is in Afghanistan: it is a subject of shame so great that even greatly abused victims prefer to keep it quiet: "It would, however, be wrong to conclude that women are not often trafficked or there are less cases of sexual exploitation in Afghanistan, given that a considerable number of women trafficked for the purpose of sexual exploitation have actually been referred to IOM Afghanistan. Instead, this could be explained by the social stigma attached to sexual exploitation, particularly concerning women, and people’s unwillingness to open up and discuss the issues with the outsiders. The extreme difficulty encountered by the survey team in identifying female trafficking cases has somehow confirmed the tendency of Afghan families to keep sexual abuse incidents undisclosed and unreported. With such constraints, one can conclude that it is impossible to obtain an accurate picture, let alone exact numbers, of trafficking cases in today’s Afghanistan." [5] (page 41). Buckshot06 (talk) 05:11, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Who are you? I wrote to John B123. The above references talk about women from China, Tajikistan, Pakistan, Iran and other places. Human trafficking does not always involve prostitution, and that human trafficking information is not contested. You have to find a reliable source for the 7,000 young Afghan girls in India. The Pakistani Frontier is obviously unreliable. Since you can't find any you're not allowed to put that propaganda in Wikipedia.--39.41.92.164 (talk) 20:42, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Who says The Pakistani Frontier is unreliable? --John B123 (talk) 20:48, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Draft space

Just a quick note, when you shift something to Draft space make sure you're not moving it to the Draft:Draft space (example). Not the end of the world (and you're not the only one that's done it) but your name kept popping this afternoon so I thought I'd mention it. Primefac (talk) 14:35, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Primefac. That's curious as I use User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js to move pages to draft which automatically configures the draft article name. Looking at User:John B123/Draftify log this has happened 4 times. Pinging Evad37 as this is happening with other users too. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 16:30, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, Praxidicae noticed that it's a script issue, in that when you try to draftify a page with an existing draft, it appends the extra "Draft:" to the proposed title. Not something most would notice... Definitely something that should be raised at the script's talk (which I've now done). Primefac (talk) 20:00, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, JohnB123,

This draft popped up on the expiring drafts list but I delayed it with the thought that I would submit it to AFC. Then, I saw that you were the page creator and realized that you know more about creating articles than I do. I thought it was an interesting list though if you wanted to submit it to AFC or move it over to main space. Liz Read! Talk! 01:38, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The list is derived from http://ciw.anu.edu.au/events/morrison-lectures#acton-tabs-link--qt-morrison_lectures_qtabs-ui-tabs2 which is cited, but it doesn't seem like one should cite it for every speaker, and not all the red names will have Wiki pages.
