The McMaster Faculty of Humanities is one of six faculties at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The humanities discplines were first grouped together under their own faculty in 1976 as a result of the McMaster University Act, which also led to the creation of the Faculties of Business, Engineering, Health Sciences, Science, and Social Sciences. Prior to 1976, study of the humanities at McMaster came under the jurisdiction of the Arts.
Today, the Faculty of Humanities oversees more then 120 full-time faculty, more than 3,000 students, and 11 Canada Research Chairs.[1]

Departments of the Faculty of Humanities[edit]
The Faculty of Humanities at McMaster University has a variety of different departments offering various courses. There are 11 different departments that make up the Faculty of Social Sciences including the following;

Expansion[edit]
In September 2022, the Faculty of Humanities announced the largest ever gift to the liberal arts in Canada from Lynton "Red" Wilson to create the Wilson College of Leadership and Civic Engagement.[3][4]

The details of the program are yet to be determined by faculty and staff but will involve earlier gifts by Wilson including the L.R. Wilson Hall, a new liberal arts building already housing the faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences.[5] In October, 2023 the univeristy announced Donald Abelson would serve as the College's inaugaral academic directer.[6]
Wilson's gift builds on other projects sponsored by the faculty focusing on social innovation, the Future of Canada Project, Canadian Forum on Innovation and Societal Impact and the Wilson Leaders program, The/LA Collaborative and many others have all been important McMaster Humanities initiatives.[7][8][9]
Rankings[edit]
McMaster regularly ranks among the top 5 universities in Canada.[10] Globally, the McMaster Faculty of Humanities was ranked #210 in Best Universities for Arts and Humanities by U.S. News.[11]
