User:Meters

Please move me back to the active reviewers' list. I don't patrol new articles but, as I said when I originally asked for this, I like to be able to mark new articles as reviewed when I deal with one at recent changes. Meters (talk) 08:09, 4 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I think there is something wrong with your algorithm if it marks editors who have been using the script to mark new articles as speedy deletes as inactive.reviewers. Meters (talk) 08:15, 4 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Meters, not sure what you mean; are you requesting WP:NPR access? AFCH can only be used to mark attack pages and copyvios, and it doesn't look like you've been doing either. Happy to re-add you if you're going to start reviewing drafts again, though. Primefac (talk) 14:56, 4 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
My rights show that I have new page patroller reviewer..My curation log records my having marked things for deletion as recently as one month ago, but the menu options formerly visible for new pages have disappeared. i just assumed that the disappearance was related to me being inactive on AFCH. If those options were part of new page patroller and not AFCH then my apologies. I am confused (why was anything I was doing being recorded in your curation log?) and I don't know what's going on. Hi! I've been extremely active in the realm of speedy deletion. I've been around for a while now and have written three articles (a stub and two start classes), and expanded another to GA.  Probation, which will be evaluated in 3-6 months. Being on probation only means that you can be removed from the list for any reason without prior discussion. This is based mainly on the rather problematic AFD history. Primefac (talk) 18:55, 12 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Primefac. What does "the rather problematic AFD history" mean? Feel free to respond on my talk page if that works better.   - Mark D Worthen PsyD (talk) (I'm a man—traditional male pronouns are fine.) 19:27, 12 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If you include the overturned AFD for race and intelligence, you have a 0% accuracy rating at AFD. This would imply that you are not able to accurately determine the suitability of an article for inclusion on Wikipedia. That being said, you have a relatively large number of edits and a few articles to your name, so I figure we might as well see what happens. Primefac (talk) 19:36, 12 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, thank you for explaining. Has that metric (correspondence between "votes" and ultimate AfD decision, calculated as a percentage) been evaluated with regard to its interrater reliability (since it's partly based on individual judgements of what constitutes a "good" or "bad" vote/decision percentage), criterion-related validity, and predictive validity? (There are other problems with the metric that undoubtedly reduce its reliability, which I can describe if you wish, but it would take up even more space.) I ask because using an unreliable, inaccurate metric adds extra work (for you), and likely leads to the rejection or "probation" (an unsavory term) of otherwise competent editors who are, after all, volunteering to help.   - Mark D Worthen PsyD (talk) (I'm a man—traditional male pronouns are fine.) 21:35, 12 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
In a word, yes. The main metrics of whether someone understands the notability criteria are found in the AFD and CSD logs. If one does poorly at AFD, that implies that they do not understand the inclusion criteria. Primefac (talk) 00:16, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I hope you will consider that if your method has never been evaluated, then we do not know if various editors' subjective interpretations of a (potentially unreliable) frequency table are truly unbiased and accurate. In more formal terms, an assessment method can be evaluated to determine if it is reliable (e.g., consistent between judges or raters) and valid (does the assessment method truly measure what it purports to measure?). Accuracy and precision are closely related concepts, e.g., ISO 5725-1 (Accuracy—trueness and precision—of measurement methods and results). Of course, one might quickly dismiss my concerns as "overly technical" or "wonky", or assert that "we've been doing it this ways for years without anyone complaining", without keeping an open mind and considering that one's assumptions might not be accurate.   - Mark D Worthen PsyD (talk) (I'm a man—traditional male pronouns are fine.) 04:37, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I mostly have no idea what you just said. I stick by my metrics, and you're still on a probationary period for two months. Primefac (talk) 23:39, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I don't mind being on probation, and I respect your decision. My concern is that (it seems) we do not have policies in place related to these topics. I'll try to determine how to suggest new policies to the "powers that be" and go from there. ¶ I conducted my first AfC review yesterday and I think it went well, at least in the sense that I was able to find all sorts of helpful guidance within WP:AFC and related help sections. I've learned that reliable sources are essential to an article on Wikipedia. I know that I should not use primary or passing sources, because they aren't reliable. I've learned this from two of my mistakes. Upon pondering over AFC for a while. I think now is a good time to start a request for AFCH. Hi there, I'm Delta, I had applied a while back but had been rejected immediately which was rightfully so, as I needed much more experience on the main space and needed to learn to avoid the plethora of mistakes I had made. Aside form that I had been unable to edit as much as I used to last year in the early months, due to the fact that I was a school student in my last year and thus had to dedicate all my time towards education, however, I just finished my last year at school and now have enough time in the day to help contribute to the Wikipedia. I've uploaded two articles so far and the latest one passing on the first go, as I learnt how notability should be proved, something I did not know before and is visible on my past drafts and failed submissions. I have gone through the guidelines and hope to be a part of this community thank you! Delta fiver (talk) (UTC) 07:58, 22 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

User:Salvidrim!

I've used AFCH for years as an admin before (although not super mega actively), never had issues with an AfC I've reviewed or article I created. For transparency: over two years ago I was desysopped & prevented from AfC reviewing for one event instance of colluding to approve a friend's AfC for which they had been paid; that sanction was successfully removed over a year ago. Now that we have AfC sorting I have an active interest in helping maintain Wikipedia:AfC sorting/Culture/Media/Video games and the AFCH script simply makes easier the reviewing work I could do regardless. I'm not sure if this should be under reactivations? Ben · Salvidrim!  07:12, 24 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
