User:Delphine Dallison

I am the new Wikimedian in Residence for the Scottish Libraries and Information Council. I have been a certified trainer for Wikimedia UK since 2014 and have been assisting and leading events and editathons on a regular basis since then. In my new post, I will be hosting and supporting training events and editathons on a monthly basis across Scotland. Delphine Dallison (talk) 23:12, 14 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Not done Delphine Dallison, please request this before a specific event if you need it. TonyBallioni (talk) 12:30, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Tony, given her position as a WIR, Delphine is exactly the sort of person who should have this sort of permission on a permanent basis. Would you reconsider Tony? Philafrenzy (talk) 12:47, 16 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No, she has 50 total edits to this project. Being a WiR does not mean an automatic grant, and I specifically wrote the guidelines this way to avoid these types of situations. She can request per event, and if it becomes to burdensome, we can make it permanent then. TonyBallioni (talk) 13:03, 16 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Tony, Just came across this (as a bad CSD nom) - Wikipedia:GLAM/SLIC/Events/Falkirk Local History Wikipedia Editathon 22.05.18 - which is justification for a temporary grant I believe. Cabayi (talk) 06:11, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Done per above. Granted for a week, and it can be granted with more experience permanently. TonyBallioni (talk) 06:33, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have run training events in conjunction with Wikimedia UK in the past and expect to do so again. Philafrenzy (talk) 07:24, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

User:Leela0808

Hiya - much like RexxS I am also an accredited Wikimedia UK trainer, and some of the events I have run the past have acted on a drop in or turn up basis, negating the ability for atendees to create accounts in advance. It would be practical to have this, and I suspect I will not be the last such trainer making this request as I will flag it to some of my other co-trainers who I work with to organise training.

Tony, John is regularly involved in organising editathons for WMUK. I think he should have this permission on a permanent basis. Would you reconsider Tony? Philafrenzy (talk) 12:50, 16 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
They are free to request it on a per-event basis, and if it becomes too burdensome, we can grant it permanently. By their request above, they seemed to indicate that they don't regularly participate in editathons, but do it on occasion. TonyBallioni (talk) 13:06, 16 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I've been running training events since 2015, specialising in training new users in GLAMs across Scotland as a Wikimedian in Residence and as a volunteer. I'm also now the Scotland Programme Coordinator for WMUK, as user:Sara Thomas (WMUK), and part of that role will be to run training and advocacy for partnership organisations. I regularly attend outreach and GLAM events to advise and assist new users. A recent example was at the National Archives. There's another event at the British Library next week and so it would be good to try the new feature out there. Andrew D. (talk) 11:27, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

User:Stinglehammer

I am Wikimedian in Residence at the University of Edinburgh and have run over 100 training sessions and editathon events of different types (Wikipedia, Wikidata, Wikisource, Wiki Commons) regularly since January 2016. Like User:RexxS although I try to encourage participants to register an account at least five days before an event, this does not always happen and I would find it useful to be able to grant confirmed status to new editors who participate. Beyond this, I believe the ability for new users to be able to see the process of drafting an article to publishing it (under supervision) cements their understanding of how & why to contribute to Wikipedia. I understand my responsibility to supervise and review the contributions of participants while taking part in an event.Stinglehammer (talk) 11:38, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am program leader for Wikimedia Ghana User Group Wikipedia Education Program at the Gimpa Law School, I have also been leading other edit-a-thons and workshops organised by the user group. If I am given this rights I believe it would be of enormous benefits to the work the user group does on a regular basis. We advice most of the new users to create accounts before coming to workshops often times most of them don't do it, that's why I believe this rights would be important to me and the user group. I run events regularly as part of my work as Wikimedian in Residence at UNESCO, I'm an acceredited trainer for Wikimedia UK. The next event I'm running is in one week for a government delegation. I would very much appreciate this right permanently as I'm often invited to run events at short notice. Thanks John Cummings (talk) 14:56, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

User:Bri

Alreay in possession of Account Creator mostly for helping at editathons & random Cascadia editor recruiting. I think I only need Event Coordinator rights vice Account Creator -- there's no need for me to override antispoofing. (This is effectively a request for permission downgrade to Event Coordinator). ☆ Bri (talk) 18:52, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
 Done switched. TonyBallioni (talk) 19:01, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

User:Shameran81

I'm affiliated with Cascadia Wikimedians and currently with OCLC doing outreach to library staff and academics. For a couple of years I've either supported or run edit-a-thons, trainings and events. I have account creator status. You may remove my account creator status in return for Event Coordinator status so that I can facilitate training and in-person events, and if needed, help make new accounts for participants on their behalf, and/or encourage article creation when relevant. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks so much. Shameran81 (talk) 20:05, 15 May 2018 (UTC) Shameran81 (talk) 20:05, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Even as a veteran outreach coordinator, trainer and resource person, during precious training hours, I frequently faces issues emerging from the limit in number of new users that can be registered from the same IP block. This user right would go a long way in ensuring more efficient and worthy training workshops. Thanks. ViswaPrabhaവിശ്വപ്രഭtalk 21:05, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am the Project Coordinator for Wikimedia Community Ireland, which involves hosting and leading a large number of editing events across Ireland. This involves large groups of students or academics at times. Whilst every effort is made to get users to sign up before the event, inevitably this doesn't always happen. This would be a great tool to help with this reoccurring issue. Smirkybec (talk) 22:50, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am a regional ambassador for Art+Feminism and have been leading edit-a-thons and training workshops in Los Angeles since 2013. All of my events include a one-hour orientation and other assistance for new editors. I have account creator status, but it sounds like I'll need to grant confirmed status to new editors attending these events. I have a big edit-a-thon this Friday (LA WikiWomen Edit-a-thon at Neuehouse), so would be grateful if Event Coordinator status could be granted before then. Let me know if any other info needed. Hi. I am the founder and current president of Wikimedia Community User Group Malaysia. I've organized 11 Wikipedia meetups in Malaysia (Wikipedia:Meetup/Malaysia) to spread the awareness of Wikipedia to new users. I wish to obtain the event coordinator rights because me and my team have been organizing many meetups, and we shall keep doing many more meetups in the future to get more and more new editors in this country. Everything that we have done are properly written and documented in our Wikipedia, Meta page or Facebook page for everyone to view and to give input to us for future improvement. I am a Lead Trainer for Wikimedia UK and have regularly trained people over the past 3 years, mainly academics and students. It would be incredibly useful (if not almost essential) to be able to confirm users, and that way be able to spend more of the time actually training people how to be good editors in more depth as opposed to spending much of the training sessions finding workarounds for them to make any meaningful contributions at all. I understand the responsibilities I have to monitor the content and quality of contributions from those I am training, and this permission will allow me to focus more of my time on precisely that.
