Event coordinator

User:Ceribrit

I am an academic who is incorporating Wikipedia editing into their coursework following participation in Wiki Edu's Scholars & Scientists program in 2022. This year (2024) I ran an edit-a-thon as a lab exercise for physics students and then a campus-wide edit-a-thon at the Wentworth Institute of Technology, both with the aim of improving biography articles about women in STEM fields. While both events were organized with the Programs & Events Dashboard, students still ran into account-creation issues. During the most recent edit-a-thon, an administrator in attendance temporarily granted me event coordinator status and this was helpful in overcoming these issues. I plan to continue hosting similar events at least once a semester and to act as a resource on my campus. Event coordinator status would help significantly with this work. @Ceribrit what sort of issues did you run in to? One thing I note on your dashboard is that you do not have the "Enable account requests" option configured. — xaosflux Talk 10:44, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Xaosflux This is useful feedback, thank you!
I am aware of two distinct issues:
1) The issue you identified re: the dashboard configuration. This will help with future dashboard-connected events.
2) My institution provided an incomplete set of IP addresses upon my request, which were then sent on for whitelisting during the event.
Event coordinator status would provide a redundancy in the event of these or similar oversights in the future by myself or my colleagues, or the event of dashboard connection issues or other technical difficulties. It would also enable me to serve as a resource for editing outside of a dashboard context. Ceribrit (talk) 12:20, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Done @Ceribrit set for a year, renew if needed. Ensure that you only use the "manual confirmation" process for in-person attendees with 1-10day expiration value. — xaosflux Talk 12:45, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
