Global Technology Forum; is free website from the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), designed to provide visitors with all the information and analysis they need to hone their business strategy for the global digital economy.

Our site provides forward-looking analysis from our own writers as well as selected articles from Economist Group publications, including the Economist Magazine; CFO Magazine; IndustryBriefing, the EIU's web-based analysis of industry trends; as well as the EIU's newsletters such as Business China and Business Eastern Europe, and Business Middle East, to name a few. We also publish the in-depth research produced by the EIU's Executive Services team on topics ranging from the latest trends in offshoring to the future of the CIO. Further, we select and publish stories on current tech issues from the Financial Times, eMarketer.com, and leading US newspapers.

The Global Technology Forum is also the home of the respected E-business readiness rankings which we publish each year in cooperation with IBM. We feature our own country-by-country analysis for the 60 top economies in those rankings on our Doing E-business In pages.

We have an interactivity function which allows visitors to post comments on selected stories. We look forward to hearing your views in this manner and to expanding the user-generated content on the site in the months to come.

What is the Economist Intelligence Unit?;

The EIU is an information provider for companies establishing and managing operations across national borders anywhere in the world. Established more than 50 years ago in London, we now have a worldwide network of offices, including London, New York, Hong Kong, Vienna, Singapore and Tokyo. The EIU is now a leading electronic publisher, delivering business analysis online via http://www.eiu.com.

What does the Economist Intelligence Unit do?;

The EIU produces objective and timely analysis and forecasts of the political, economic and business environment in more than 180 countries. We also produce reports on certain strategic industries and on the latest management thinking. Our editorial staff takes great pride in the EIU's editorial quality and independence and guard them carefully.

What kinds of organisations use the Economist Intelligence Unit?;

Multinational companies, exporters and importers, direct and portfolio investors, financial institutions, governments, business schools and any group that needs to know about political, economic and business developments across the world. Most of the Fortune 500 companies are among our clients.

Within these organisations, who uses the Economist Intelligence Unit?;

Our services are aimed at senior executives, their support staff and managers responsible for international operations. While we serve them directly, we also inform their advisers: corporate librarians, researchers, bankers, analysts, consultants, academics, lawyers and accountants.

How does the Economist Intelligence Unit operate?;

Our intelligence is based on regular contributions from a global network of more than 500 information-gatherers. Their analysis is rigorously checked for accuracy, consistency and impartiality by our own regional experts. It is edited into a common format, providing an honest appraisal of each country's political and economic prospects, and an accurate assessment of industrial and business trends.

How is the information delivered?;

We deliver information primarily via the Internet (http://www.eiu.com and a range of other web services). Our intelligence is also available in a range of other formats: printed reports, newsletters, CD-ROMs, and customised briefings. We complement our analysis with top-level forums, government roundtables and conferences on key areas of business, politics and economics.

What is different about the Economist Intelligence Unit?;

Unlike the news media, the EIU does not let latest events determine its focus. Instead we provide a balanced and well-researched supply of intelligence and foresight on the operating environment of each country, on a range of key industries and developments in management thinking. At the same time we respond to changes around the world within the business day with analysis of the impact they may have on our forecasts.

Are the Economist Intelligence Unit and The Economist the same company?;

The EIU is part of the Economist Group, which also publishes The Economist newspaper. Like The Economist, the EIU prides itself on a wholly international and impartial view of the world, on aiding the global flow of information, on the clear use of English, the language of international business, and on a blend of acuity and accuracy.

  • Cybertown.com [180] - Cybertown(TM) (www.cybertown.com) is the oldest and largest 3D `virtual society' that exists on the Internet. Tony Rockliff, Producer and Founder, partnered with Pascal Baudar, started in it 1995, and Cybertown was heavily advertised in Marvel(TM) comic books. Cybertown started as a chat-based portal community with a sci-fi theme. They grew it to the point where it was acquired by 3D community enabler, Blaxxun Interactive, and the community went fully 3D.

In mid 1998 Cybertown started collecting registrations, and membership was over 300,000 and Cybertown had experienced 500% growth during 1997. Usually Cybertown had around 400 simultaneous chatters and many thousands of people with jobs in the town.
Tony's functions include the planning and co-ordination of community operations, engineering, marketing, business development, graphics and VR and the overall expansion of the community as well as interacting with the community residents as founder.
Prior to his work with Cybertown, Tony was a multimedia producer, and prior to that a record producer with 20 years experience and success in the music business.

Webcomics

This is the page to suggest webcomic articles you would like to see and would like someone to write. (If you want to write the article yourself, just go for it; you don't need to post about it here.) To add a suggestion just edit this page.

Please:

  • only suggest articles that may meet the general notability guidelines.
  • add any sources on the subject you can find, to demonstrate notability and help the writer get started
  • sign your suggestion, or at least write the date you made it.

List of requested articles

  1. ChemScrapes Chemistry themed cartoons drawn by Brendan A Burkett [198]. ChemScrapes. Creator of Sketch Chemistry [199]. Profile [200]. Known in online chemistry community [201]. Cover art [202], [203], [204], [205]. Abstract Art [206]. Editorial highlights from Chemical and Engineering News [207], [208]. • These sources demonstrate the work in question, but don't appear to demonstrate notability. Has ChemScrapes received significant coverage from third parties (eg entities not publishing the work)? In my searches I wasn't able to find significant coverage of this work, so I am not convinced that it meets the general notability guidelines. HenryCrun15 (talk) 20:18, 31 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"Get A Hat" When I was in the Marine Corps on Okinawa, we used the expression, "get a hat" to mean leave this place, get out of here, vacate the premises. I've heard John Madden use a similar expression on TV, "grab your hat and coat." I like "get a hat" because it's shorter and it's something we used and it's funny.

    This page is a list of video game-related topics for which editors have requested articles be created. Any editor can submit, review, or otherwise help manage requests. There are currently ' requests on this page and 335' archived requests.

    Before placing a request, be advised of the following:

    1. Only add requests for notable topics. Subjects require significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject for articles to be created. Requests must include external links to multiple reliable sources that prove its notability. See WP:VG/RS for more information about reliable sources for video games.
      • Do not place requests with insufficient sources in hopes for more sources to be found later. If a topic does not have enough right now, it should not be added. Do not use this page as a source aggregator.
      • Do not place requests for remasters, compilations, or expansions. Though there are exceptions, these topics are usually better discussed in articles about the original games. Add sources to those articles' talk pages instead.
    2. Many requests are never fulfilled. If you look at old revisions of this page, you will notice that many requests still have red links. (2017, 2014) Many requests sit for 2-3 years before being assessed, and any editor may remove a request from the list if they deem it not notable. If you really want to see an article made, it is a better idea to make it yourself.
    3. Old requests are archived. In an effort to keep the list manageable, games that do not have substantial coverage beyond reviews and release information will be moved to an archive if the request is not acted upon within a year. The intent is to limit the list to new requests, and topics that are highly notable and should be prioritized. Requests in the archive can still be reviewed for creation as any other request. Before placing a request, ensure it is not in the archive list. If new substantial material is published for a topic in the archive, it can be moved back to this page.

    Instructions

    • To add a new entry:
      1. Read the "Before placing a request..." section at the top of this page.
      2. Follow the technical instructions at the bottom of the list (hidden in article source, you will need to be in edit mode to see)
      3. Optional: Sign your request (with 3 tildes), as it will help you get notified as to your request's fate
    • To review a request:
      1. Review the links provided to determine if GNG has been met.
      2. If GNG is met, take the sources and create an article at the appropriate article name. If it is not met, determine if there is possibly a better location, or target article to discuss the subject, and merge into there. It is possible there may be no place to merge and the request should just be canceled.
      3. If you know who placed the request, send them a message letting them know what you did with the request
      4. Remove the entry from the list.
    • Move old requests to archives:
      • Requests should be moved to Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Requests/Archive if both these conditions are met:
        1. Has been listed here for at least 1 year
        2. The sources provided do not demonstrate sustained, significant coverage. (Typically meaning the sources only consist of release information, reviews, and previews. They lack development information, staff interviews, retrospective coverage, or other analysis.)
      • Requests on the archive page can still be assessed and created like any request on the main page.

    Food, Cuisine, and Dining Practices

    Food Preparation

    • Lunar farming and Lunar gardening - both of these practice were VERY popular in the past and are still practiced in many places in the world that are still largely rural/agrarian; the cultures of the ancient Middle East, Middle Age Europe, Asia (both ancient and modern), and the very advanced pre-Columbian South American civilizations (among many others) ALL practice(d) lunar farming on a large scale and lunar gardening on a small scale. All of the old almanacs (Ben Franklin's Poor Richard's Almanac, the Old Farmer's Almanac, etc.) were largely based on the lunar cycle, astrological aspects, and various other planetary cycles for planting/sowing, weather, harvesting, etc. Some of this still lives in modern times with phrases like harvest moon and others.
