Often, articles related to television share the same name as other programs, series, movies, books or terms. When disambiguating these articles from something else, use the most appropriate method as described below.
Remember, disambiguation is only necessary if multiple articles would normally have the same name. If the title of the TV program is the most common usage of the phrase, let it be the title of the article.
Articles about television
Articles which relate to general concepts related to television technology, terminology, and industry (but not programming) should use (television).
Episodic series
Most TV shows (both broadcast and cable) are typically produced under a single name, with each episode relating to the others in an understandable way (a television series). For these, use (TV series). This should only include series where the typical episode is 1 hour or less.
- Specific genres
Use these, where appropriate, instead of "TV series", as they are used frequently in common speech and make articles recognizable.
- Miniseries (consisting of a short run of movie-length episodes) use (TV miniseries) or (TV serial)
- Game shows use (game show).
- Talk shows use (talk show).
Episode articles
Episode summaries should be combined onto a single page (List of Knight Rider episodes) or organized as a summary by season (The X-Files (season 1), In Bed with Medinner (series 1)). Note that this use of "season" and "series" in the page name depends on the originating region.
Where an article is created about a single episode, add the series name in parentheses if there are other articles by the same name, e.g. Bart the Genius, but The Sting (Futurama). For Star Trek episodes, always add the series name.
One-time (non-series) productions
- For Made-for-TV movies, simply use (film).
- For all other uses, the most appropriate moniker is (TV program).
