Virginia Ali (born December 17, 1933) is an American businesswomen and co-owner of Ben's Chili Bowl, which she founded with her husband Ben Ali.[1][2][3] in 1958.

Virginia first met Ben Ali when he came to the Industrial Bank to deposit money from a local restaurant he worked at.[4] They were married on October 10, 1958[5]

Education

Career

She was a teller at Industrial Bank, a historic African American owned bank based in Washington D.C.

Ben’s Chili Bowl was opened on August 22, 1958.[6]

Activism

Virginia first met her husband in the 1950s. while Ben Ali was attending dentistry school at Howard University.

Ali has served on the boards of several of organizations including For Love of Children.[7]

Awards and honors

She was inducted in the DC Hall of Fame along with her husband in 2002.[7]

She and her husband received the Key to the City from mayor Adrian Fenty in honor of the restaurant’s 50th anniversary in 2008.[7]
