Vanessa Madeline Angel (born November 10, 1963 in London, England) is an English model and actress. She is best remembered for playing the role of Lisa on the Weird Science TV series. Her movie roles include King of New York, The Perfect Score and Kingpin, and she has also had recurring roles on the television shows Reasonable Doubts and Stargate SG-1.

Life and career

Angel attended Heathfield High School for Girls in Harrow, Middlesex, England, before being discovered while out shopping in London with her mother by a major modeling talent agent. She subsequently dropped out of school. Classmates report her real date of birth as November 10, 1963, which would make her three years older than published reports, a common ploy used by public relations firms and modeling agencies.

Angel appeared on the covers of such magazines as Vogue and Cosmopolitan.

Her first movie role was in the American movie comedy Spies Like Us, in which she played a soldier in the Soviet Strategic Missile Forces. Her role was largely "eye candy" in this movie, as she appeared prominently in her underwear in scenes. In later interviews, Angel said that during that filming, she knew nothing at all about acting, but that she later learned much about it.[citation needed] Angel famously dropped out of the role of Xena, originally intended to be a three-episode guest arc on Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. The role was filled at the last minute by Lucy Lawless, whose subsequent spin-off, Xena: Warrior Princess, was one of the biggest television successes of the mid-1990s and turned Lawless into a star.

Stargate SG-1

On Stargate SG-1, Vanessa plays the Tok'ra archaeologist/scientist Freya, whose symbiote is named Anise. Her first appearance is in the Season 4 episode "Upgrades", and she appears in the two following episodes "Crossroads" and "Divide and Conquer".

Entourage

Angel played herself in the Season 2 episode of Entourage titled "I Love You Too". According to the storyline, she had a three episode arc alongside Johnny Drama in the sci-fi series Viking Quest. While the series folded after one season, Angel went on to star in a spin-off series, Angel Quest, which, according to the episode, ran "five times" longer than Viking Quest. When she and Drama are reunited at a comics convention, they fight, and then reconcile in the form of a passionate kiss - all to the applause of the convention floor.

Personal life

Married to actor Rick Otto in April 1996, the couple live in Los Angeles and have a daughter.
