Discretionary sanctions notice

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in the English Wikipedia article titles policy and Manual of Style. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Calling other editors dicks simply because you WP:IDONTLIKEIT-style disagree with them or have a personality conflict with them is not permissible in general, and doubly contraindicated with regard to article title disputes, which are covered by discretionary sanctions. There's a big difference between Dicklyon raising issues with some MILHIST participants making source-contradicting and policy-noncognizant arguments, and you just attacking him ad hominem. If you to want to tooth-gnash at each other in an unrestrained manner, take it to private e-mail. The rest of us are tired of this WP:BATTLEGROUND behavior.

These title matters are very, very simple: if sources do not near-consistently capitalize something, then WP does not either. Every time you make an argument to capitalize something that fails that test and get heated with other editors who are actually trying to follow the sources and our guidelines, then you are making a mistake, you are wasting other editors' time, and you are making deathmatch behavior over style trivia more and more of a problem. It needs to stop.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  22:40, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
