Re: No Categories on User Pages

Okay I'll take that category listing off, please clean up the entry on the Ballet:Danseurs page listing as the page does not exist anymore so there is no way for me to edit it. Also, you're in Sacramento? What's your age (or range if that's too private for here)? I perform Snow White in Auburn, CA in May, and have performed The Nutcracker with Roseville School of Dance in Roseville, CA recently. Do you have kids in ballet or watch ballets yourself? Also in the fall did a production of Alice in Wonderland with Folsom Lake Civic Ballet... trying to see if you have seen me or are in the dance world at all. user:pathaugen

Re: Page Moving

Moving my page seems to have broken the categories listing please check that out. Also, you'll be hard presses to find anyone in the ballet world that knows technology. I'll be adding lots of ballet knowledge over the next few weeks, at that time perhaps you'll recognize my strength in this ballet community. user:pathaugen

Very urgent

Rick, I have a confession to make. Can we discuss it at my private talk page VosConclavo? It's very important; concerns hoaxes and vandalism, please reply at the said talk page ASAP. Regards - 84.154.113.120 22:46, 1 Apr 2005 (UTC)

A problem

Hello Rick, User:Albanau is engaging once more in behavior that I consider vandalism. I have proven once again that an argument he continues to post is bogus, but he continues to revert it. See Talk:Origin of Albanians, the last section. It is like arguing with a retarded child trying to convince Albanau that his arguments are not admissable in an Encyclopedia. He is spreading misinformation, because sites such as Nationmaster have already transcribed his bullshit across the net. Decius 05:24, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Really in my opinion, if Wikipedia does not put an end to his actions on the Origin of Albanians page, I think the article might as well be deleted (I don't even care if one of his desires---to see the article deleted--would thus be fulfilled, because all the information in the article against the Illyrian idea is already known), to avoid spreading misinformation constantly added by "Albanau". Or perhaps I should erase all his bogus edits and have the page locked. Decius 05:28, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Albanau should be blocked from editing the Origin of Albanians page---I don't need him to be banned from Wikipedia (though that would be fine), but at least blocked from that page. I plan on posting a complaint against him at Arbitrations. Decius 06:35, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Note that he accuses me of also engaging in his type of edit behavior, but the History of the article shows that the only mistake I made was suggesting that Albanians might be descended from the ancient Paionians---this is very possible, but it can be considered original research. At the time I added the sentence I thought it might qualify as demonstratably admissable, but I agree that I shouldn't add my own theories, so I erased that direct Paionian suggestion months ago---what mention of Paionians remains in the text is just the geographical fact that they once lived north of Macedon, east of Albania. That's as far as I went, which in no way compares to his "actions" in the article. Decius 05:42, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I see that from Talk:Finno-Ugric languages, it is possible for a User to be banned from a certain page. This case is worse than the Finno-Ugric case, which got User:Antifinnugor banned from that page. Anyway, the reason I contacted you is to get some input on what steps should be taken. Bad maps

Your help and common sense is needed. User:Kelisi, has been producing some maps and trying to replace the CIA maps for several Caribbean and South American countries. In my opinion these new maps (which have more detail than the CIA maps) are vastly inferior. They use garish colours, terrible decorative fonts, use a horribly large pixel size and are generally ugly and crowded, and look terribly amateurish and like they were produced on a Commodore 64 or something. Here is a list of maps he has produced . http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3AContributions&target=Kelisi&hideminor=0&namespace=6. Perhaps the worst example is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Brazilmap.gif . Bizarrly these maps seems to have support from a few people who have been trying to push through their inclusion on several pages. Please see talk:Panama and talk:Honduras. Summons

Salutations. RickK, you are being summoned to a discussion with an anonymous user who calls himself the Fort Bleakeley vandal. He says it is very important. You would do best to join the discussion at my talk page immediately. Please hurry. VosConclavo 11:46, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)

hello from India

Hello, I am writing this message from India. I am working as a Senior Manager of a premier Bank of India. “Johar Jharkahnd”, the article which was recommended for deletion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion/Log/2005_March_27#Johar_Jharkhand) was placed by me. I am new to wikipedia and I had just put the article, which I had written for my Bank’s House Journal. Out of context, it certainly looked babelfish translation / weird / contained pidjin-English words and was certainly not encyclopedic. I am convinced that the decision to delete the article was correct. However, I can assure you one thing- the article was never intended to read like a Nigerian email scam.

I am very new wiki and within a week, I have become a wikipedian addict. I am sure to participate in the wiki experience and contribute in a positive manner in creating a free encyclopedia. . Thanks…. Byeee.--Bhadani 13:54, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)

General Slocum

Please respond to my various comments at Wikipedia:Votes for undeletion/List of General Slocum victims. Thanks. --brian0918™ 20:08, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Nice excuse to avoiding thinking. Is there a valid reason why a list of casualities of 9/11 is allowed on Wikipedia but a list of 1,000 people who died in a previous NY disaster is not allowed on Wikipedia? --brian0918™ 20:23, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I should note that the article is a valid VFU because of the new information that Wikisource doesn't want it either; they want it put on Wikipedia. The original WP VFD wanted it moved to Wikisource. --brian0918™ 21:49, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Blocked Again!

Rick -- you are blocking me again. I can't help it if AOL assigned me a vandal's number. Please release the block. Thanks. WBardwin 00:44, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Did that take care of the problem? RickK 00:48, Apr 3, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks - I'll try to just log out and then back in if this happens again. Always get another number that way. WBardwin 00:51, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I'm with AOL at the moment -- are you looking for something more specific than the company/carrier? You'll have to walk me through some things -- I'm more writer than tech! WBardwin 02:36, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)

After fussing through a variety of things with a techie friend, I'm afraid the remainder of my computer difficulties are due to the fact that high speed internet is not yet available in our area. -hard to believe, huh. So I crawl along as best I can -- with quite a bit of downtime, interruptions, and broken connections. After all, to the rest of the internet, I'm a dinosaur. WBardwin 22:26, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Impersonation

Rick - FYI: User:RicKk is blocked indefinitely for impersonating you. I rolled back all his edits except his vote on Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Chamaeleon since the page had been edited since then, but I left a note pointing out that he was a sockpuppet. User:Rdsmith4/Sig 21:39, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Vandalism

You said, "don't vandalize Wikipedia." What the fuck are you talking about? How do you define vandalism, and when did I vandalize anything? Maprovonsha172 03:45, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)

How would I know my anonymous ID? Maprovonsha172 19:47, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)

'Screenwriting' (my Favorites link takes me directing to Screenwriting if I want to go to Wikipedia, because I'm waiting to see if anyone adds on to it.) Maprovonsha172 23:28, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Rick, just to let you know, I unblocked User:65.27.80.50, blocked by you earlier, because TheGrza wrote to me saying it is his IP address too, and was used by someone in his dorm who has said he won't vandalize again. However, if you want to reblock, feel free. I'll keep an eye on it, and if there's any more vandalism, I'll block it again myself. Hope that's okay. SlimVirgin (talk) 01:16, Apr 4, 2005 (UTC)

Voting Warschau/Warsaw

Hi. Since you have edited on pages with disputes about the names of German/polish locations, I would invite you to vote on Warsaw/Vote to settle the multi-year dozends-of-pages dispute about the naming of Warschau/Warsaw and other locations.--Schlesier 08:37, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Tkorrovi vs Psb777

You may be aware of this case. I refer you to some of your comments archived here and wondered if you would like to comment. Paul Beardsell 22:41, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Page Moves

If you're asking about such things as moving Red Dwarf to Red Dwarf (Television Show), I'm trying to avoid and/or prevent namespace collisions. If that (or the way I'm going about it) is a bad thing, I'll stop. Thanks,
Luc "Somethingorother" French 00:08, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)

As far as I know, Wikipedia:List of really, really, really stupid article ideas that you really, really, really should not create was only one move recently, to make the humorous nature of the article more clear, and one that happened *very* early in the article's history because I accidently created the article in the WP: namespace rather then in Wikipedia:. Certain things had to be changed to fit with the move (i.e., the WP:Stupid redirect and the self pointer within the article itself), but there should have been only the one move recently and the one that happened due to namespace stuff. If there's been more then those two, I'd like to hear about it. Thanks,
Luc "Somethingorother" French 06:26, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Greatest find ever

I was googling for Raul654 and I found happened upon a hit on stormfront.org, the pro-nazi website. Wondering how the heck my name ended up there, I stumbled on the greatest find ever. Check it out:

Instead, when started tweaking these articles, adding merelike parentheses like "...(Recall, 1933 was the depth of the Great Depression)...", I was (temporarylike) barred from editing for Vandalism. When I looked up the user who locked me out, his homepage proudlike displayed the "Hero of the Soviet Union" with the following comment:
I just wanted to thank you for the good work you do keeping the vandals at bay. Since you already have a barnstar, I award you the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, with all the privileges and responsibilities it entails. →Raul654 05:37, Jul 26, 2004 (UTC)

Ok, I admit, I smiled :) →Raul654 02:04, Apr 6, 2005 (UTC)

cardinal names

Carlo Maria Cardinal Martini

That's Wikipedia standard for the names of Cardinals. RickK 05:50, Apr 6, 2005 (UTC)

OK. I looked at existing articles and noticed that some included "cardinal" and others didn't; so I just made an executive decision. I know I know, I shouldn't be lazy — I should have looked for the naming convention. Thanks. Doops 05:54, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Incidentally, I agree that honorifics like "his eminence" dont't belong in — they're silly and not encylcopedic. I only used it because I saw it in other cardinal articles and wanted to follow precedent. Wish I'd had the guts to just skip it — thanks for stepping up to the plate. Doops 06:01, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you for supporting my adminship — I vow to use my super powers (well, my mop and bucket) for good not evil. Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 09:47, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Dancing girl

My bad. I wound up pasting a URL from a copyvio into the page move (blush). I hope I fixed it OK. - Lucky 6.9 15:44, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hi RickK, I noticed you had deleted this and I'm wondering if I should have put it on VfD (again) to begin with (instead of trying to improve it with an edit). (See here.) I guess I was giving the editor the benefit of the doubt because he had put that content in a separate article, rather than sneaking it in to the existing article about the original band (which he had been doing, repeatedly). I'm fairly certain the guy will be back, so if/when this happens again, I assume it should go straight to VfD (or Speedy VfD)? Thanx, -- Gyrofrog (talk) 16:53, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for responding. I guess my take on it was that if they want to mislead their audience by using that name, claiming to be from Sealand, etc., then that's their problem, just don't put it in the same article about the original band, and make sure readers can tell (and know about) the difference. Since the VfD result was "Merge" then maybe future anon edits should be merged to Tony Blackplait, the band's ringleader — assuming Tony Blackplait is notable. Anyway I'll continue keeping an eye out. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 03:39, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Take another look. No comment necessary if you still think it should be deleted. Gazpacho 18:49, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)

See the pattern of edits. I'll assume good faith that removing this content isn't meant as vandalism, but is there a way for me to watchlist their contributions? Rad Racer | Talk 03:15, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Zürich to Zurich

A note and question about test-templates from Sjakkalle

Hi RickK

I would like to say that my debate with you on the Votes for Undeletion page was purely a disagreement with your stance on the issue. As an administrator you are doing a great job. You are perhaps the sternest person I have seen on Wikipedia, but Wikipedia would be a worse encyclopedia without your efforts.

Reverting testing (and at worst vandalism) is a tedious and frustrating task, and I have one question regarding it. I have been handing out several {{subst:test}} templates and also a few test2- and test3-templates. At one point I saw that an anon had already received a test3-template. In these circumstances, should I use the test4-template ("This is your last warning...") or leave it to an administrator?

Sjakkalle 12:14, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thanks. I tried geology-stub, but that didn't exist.  :)

It's getting very difficult to remember what is and isn't available in stub categories! Grutness|hello? 06:35, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Please read my latest comments on Random Mootness deletion, as I have updated both the deletion thread and the Wiki entry itself.

Thank you.

NAO blanked the article America vs. Ancient Rome because he copied it to his user page and we are now trying to delete it. DDerby 06:52, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Templates

As part of a series of articles on the 2005 English cricket season, I would like the same text to go into three articles: one on the season as a whole, one on the MCC's season and another on Warwickshire's season. If you know a better way of linking one piece of text through to a number of different articles, let me know, jguk 08:11, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

User categories

They're part of this scheme to allow people to find users who speak certain languages. There are quite a few users in the categories for the bigger languages, but it seemed worth laying the foundations for all languages with Wikipedias having more than 100 articles so that people didn't come along and implement them in a haphazard non-standard way, and I was just finishing that task off. My apologies if I am flooding Special:Newpages or something. It's all done now. — Trilobite (Talk) 08:48, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)
