About the micronation article

I know you don't accept the Fifth World nations even though they exist as part of the micronational phenomenon. But I hope you will take note of the work I did today at the micronation article, and just what kind of contributions were eliminated and reverted because "Vandal" - I thought it was the destroyers of info who were the Vandals - from User:Gene Poole.

I don't expect him to be banned by you, but I think you should ask him why he keeps eliminating new information about the micronational world when it doesn't regard his nation.

I don't believe Gene Poole's edits are done in good faith, because they are not edits, but mere distruction of articles. You are an Admin, and you should look at this objectively. Otherwise the micronation article will only reflect the ideas/biases/knowledge of Gene Poole. That would not be a disservice to me, but to Wikipedia in the long-term.--IndigoGenius 16:21, 11 Jul 2004 (UTC)

IndigoGenius's Reply

Does what you say about "3 reverts and you're out for a day" make a difference? Do you actually think I even care at this point? If User:Gene Poole hasn't been banned already with what he's done — just look at his micronation article, then look at mine at User:IndigoGenius/Micronation — can you expect me to keep wasting my time with it? Do you think that real nation builders have the stomach for low life crap artists like the Emperor of Atlantium?

User:Gene Poole doesn't want Fifth World (5W) nations mentioned, and the reason he doesn't is perfectly logical in his praying mantis-like brain: it's the only way his foolish, immoral, and useless nation can compete with the likes of a 5W nation. He doesn't like the 5W not because it is "incoherent drivel," but because it is the very opposite. Read this article to get an education, if you still care about getting one on the subject: TTF-Bucksfan related news.

If his article on the Empire of Atlantium hasn't been voted for deletion yet (Sysops can do that, not me), and I have no evidence that it was, nor that it could possibly survive such scrutiny, then what's my purpose here? It is certainly not to write a better and more comprehensive micronational article!

I have better things to do with my life, and I'll just write my own articles in my User file, where they don't bother nobody seeking publicity from the Wikipedia, and who finds the truth compromising to his success. I'll write my own articles if I feel like it. User:Gene Poole can't make and will never make any real history with Atlantium, so he's chosen to do the next best thing: make his nation seem relevant in the Wikipedia, when in reality it isn't even relevant within the micronational community.--IndigoGenius 05:59, 13 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Baseball at the 2004 Summer Olympics

Hi Rick,

I wrote this quickly today following roughly how somebody had started the Football at the 2004 Summer Olympics. I haven't looked into how they progress from the preliminary rounds to the semis so if you know it will be easier to redesign the page. If not wait a few days I'll get back to it

Taipei v Taiwan

Hi Rick,

When I noticed that you had changed Taipei to Taiwan on the Baseball at the 2004 Summer Olympics I presumed that you had changed it because I had made a mistake so I went down the fixtures and changed them all to Taiwan, since which I came across a sub-page of the official Olympics site that states that Taipei are the team playing. Did you just make a mistake or are you a baseball addict that has noticed they got the official page wrong?

Tupac Edit

You posted your edits to the Tupac Shakur article 10 minutes after I posted changes to the Rise to Fame portion and reverted much of what I did. I was wondering if this was on purpose or an accident (we both checked out the same version and you copied over what I did). Note: I'm not asking about the Early Life part, just the Rise to Fame part. Salasks 15:23, 13 Jul 2004 (UTC)

I just saw that you reverted edits by 63.231.226.163 adding several Latin American leaders to the Cold War people category. It is quite a broad category, and I'm not necessarily sure if it makes sense for one to exist; but so long as the category exists, it does seem reasonable to lump Trujillo, Guzman, and Noriega in it. Are you in the process of substantially narrowing down the category, or is there another reason that you feel that they do not belong in it? 172 05:07, 15 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the response. I looked through 63.231.226.163's user history and he/she does seem to be making the category way too broad. This is quite a problematic category; go ahead and scrap the category altogether if you wish. Or perhaps it could be limited to the bio pieces that link to Cold War (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Special:Whatlinkshere&target=Cold_War) 172 05:20, 15 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act

Hi, I'm wondering why you speedy deleted Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act. I saw this come across in the new pages and went to read it, only to see that it was gone before I had a chance. It is an actual act, and the summary in the deletion log doesn't really show any problems. Thanks! kmccoy (talk) 06:16, 15 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the response. kmccoy (talk) 06:19, 15 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Is it really necessary to add every single last name for a female soap opera character? If we did that for Katherine Kelly Lang, we'd be here all night. Mike H 23:01, Jul 15, 2004 (UTC)

I did want your input on this matter. Mike H 03:08, Jul 17, 2004 (UTC)

I didn't modify a thing, nor was I going to. I think you have a wrong picture of me. Mike H 15:34, Jul 17, 2004 (UTC)

I was just about to add Alex Wright to cleanup, when I saw that not only had you just done it, but you'd given it the exact same summary I was about to: "a mess."

Soaps

I gather by your edits, you are better versed in ABC soap operas. Do you watch them? Mike H 22:21, Jul 19, 2004 (UTC)

I started watching Days of Our Lives and Another World with my mother. Nowadays I stick to The Bold and the Beautiful but I follow all of them in Soap Opera Digest. Did you see Erica's intervention episodes? I loved that they brought Mark LaMura back. Mike H 22:31, Jul 19, 2004 (UTC)
I saw the first hour of the intervention but only got to see half of the second hour. Yeah, it was good to see Mark LaMura, but then I think Lucci went on vacation, because she hasn't shown up again since then. RickK 22:32, Jul 19, 2004 (UTC)
I only bothered to tape the intervention episode that aired on Friday, July 2. I don't watch much AMC anymore, but when I do watch ABC, AMC is my favorite. I made sure to tape last Friday's episode of GH with the tribute to Anna Lee. They could have focused a little more on her, though, instead of Tracy bitching at everyone. There's a time and a place for Tracy Quartermaine to be a bitch, and it's really not on the tribute to the dead matriarch. Mike H 22:35, Jul 19, 2004 (UTC)
It's a shame that most of the characters Lila had dealings with have been recast - Even Edward, plus Lois and Emily. That stopped them from being able to show old clips. But Tracy is always Tracy, it's just her nature. RickK 22:37, Jul 19, 2004 (UTC)
Jed Allan is way too young to play the role of Edward. I know that John Ingle was still about 15 years younger than Anna Lee, and was probably much younger than the first Edward, but at least John Ingle could LOOK old. Now he's making Mickey Horton look old. It's totally making Judi Evans Luciano look skanky.
But, you know? I never saw Rena Sofer playing Lois, but I can safely say that Lesli Kay isn't at all like Molly on As the World Turns. Molly was really slutty. I like this Lois, although I think she's trying too hard to sound like a Noo Yawkuh. Mike H 22:40, Jul 19, 2004 (UTC)
Rena Softer is just ABSOLUTELY beautiful. Lesli Kay is doing a decent job as Lois, tho I keep wanting Rena to come back. But her characterization is pretty much the same as Rena's. And I agree with you, Jed Allen is totally miscast. Is he even older than Stuart Damon? RickK 22:46, Jul 19, 2004 (UTC)
I just checked -- Jed Allen and Stuart Damon were both born in 1937.  :) RickK 22:47, Jul 19, 2004 (UTC)
Stuart Damon is one month older than Allan, though. By comparison, John Ingle was born in 1928 and Jane Elliot in 1947. Besides, Allan is forever C.C. Capwell. Mike H 22:49, Jul 19, 2004 (UTC)
Yeah, but I never watched Santa Barbara, so I remember him best as Ed, the chief angel, on "Port Charles".  :) And Wally Kurth was born in 1958, so he's only 11 years younger than his "mother" and when they were on DOOL together, he and Jane Elliot were lovers. RickK 22:53, Jul 19, 2004 (UTC)
Sometimes those soaps are creepy. Like I loved Jake and Paulina, but that was because I was a little kid at the time and didn't know a thing about his raping Marley. Mike H 23:48, Jul 19, 2004 (UTC)
Well, GH made Luke and Laura a romantic couple after he raped her. And now the evil rapist Todd Manning is one of the main stars of OLTL. RickK 23:51, Jul 19, 2004 (UTC)
Ooh, that reminds me. Do you think you can write more on Cliff and Nina? I only know up to 1983, when SoapNet ran the Tad episodes. It coincided with Nina coming back to Pine Valley unscathed, and Devon being jealous of Nina, who was so in love with Cliff. Mike H 00:12, Jul 20, 2004 (UTC)
Ack. I'll have to do some research. RickK 04:12, Jul 20, 2004 (UTC)
Thanks ever so much. Cliff and Nina is my favorite classic soap couple and it kills me that I can't finish writing the article. Mike H 20:29, Jul 20, 2004 (UTC)

OK, I've expanded it. I took out the Devon part because I didn't know how that resolved. RickK 21:01, Jul 20, 2004 (UTC)

I'm glad you did that. I didn't know much of ANYTHING about the later years of C/N. I knew Taylor Miller was in a storyline with Michael Tylo, because Hunter Tylo insinuates that Taylor wanted to have an affair with Michael in her autobiography. I didn't have a really nice picture of Hunter after I read her book. She was really good at mudslinging, and all at stars I liked (she had bad things to say about Stephen Nichols and Kimberlin Brown, as well). Mike H 21:06, Jul 20, 2004 (UTC)
You know what else I don't understand? In the episodes for December 1982, when Joey shot Kate and Steve and Nina made love, Palmer referred to Nina's mother as Daisy, but in 1983 when she returned, Nina referred to Daisy as Monique. Didn't she know that Monique was really her mother by then? Mike H 23:50, Jul 20, 2004 (UTC)
Yes. Daisy had left Palmer and Nina when Nina was a baby because Palmer had caught her making love to another man and threatened to take Nina away so she could never see her again, so she left them before Nina ever knew her. Palmer told Nina that her mother had died. When she came back to town, she was calling herself Monique Jonville. She had an affair with Sean, and had info to prove that he was the killer of Sybil and not Cliff, but she was afraid to reveal it without having to reveal who she really was, but eventually on the witness stand with Nina sitting there in the coutroom, she revealed that she was really Daisy, Nina's mother. But because Nina had first gotten to know her as Monique, she kept calling her that. I wish Gillian Spencer would come back! I loved the byplay between her and James Mitchell. Did you know she was the ORIGINAL Viki Lord on OLTL? She's been writing for DOOL, but I don't know if she still is. RickK 23:57, Jul 20, 2004 (UTC)
I think she writes for Guiding Light now, but don't hold me to that. You might be interested in seeing this. It's the episode from December 1982 I mentioned. It starts out with Liza and Amanda at the restaurant, and Liza is talking about how she's going to steal Greg from Jenny. Good stuff. Mike H 00:01, Jul 21, 2004 (UTC)

blocking anon

Hi, sorry about the delay in replying. You asked why I blocked an anon for 12 hours regarding Current Events. It was because he insisted on inserting material from "INN", which is a code for Arutz Sheva, a pirate radio station run by right-wing fanatics that broadcasts from a ship off the Israeli coast because it can't legally broadcast from inside Israel (though sometimes they break this rule and several of the operators were charged with perjury for lying about it to an Israeli court). This radio station is notorious for making reports that are distorted or even completely invented. It is also notorious for its racism, such as when it broadcast praise of the Hebron Massacre in 1994. If a news report is important enough for Current Events, it should be no problem to find a reputable source for it. That's the main reason I blocked him, but I was also annoyed by the way he did reverts without a care for the edits done in between the original version and the current version. Besides that, he uses Current Events for his personal political campaigning. Witness how he added "Muslim" to a report when that word was not used either by the press report he cited nor by the human rights report the story was about. I was not sure that blocking him was appropriate but on balance I believe it was. --Zero 07:18, 21 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Range blocks

Hiya I saw you recent post at the village pump, and thought I'd come an teach you how you could have done it.

Firstly do a reverse DNS check to see the internet provider. If it's AOL give up. AOL is far too large, has far too many computers for you to ba able to block the vandal. You'll sucseed in blocking loads of legit users and probably won't get the actual vandal.

Assuming it's not AOL then proceed as follows,

64.12.116.10 through 64.12.117.22

Set the last digits to 0 64.12.116.0 ->> 64.12.117.0

do two /24 blocks 64.12.116.0/24 and 64.12.117.0/24 that will block a total of 512 IPs

Stick to /24 only if you are at all unsure about what you are doing. Note that /31 will block fewer than /24 and /16 will block a lot more. Never go lower than /16 ( I don't you you can in actual fact anyway) Also since range blocks catch innocents as well as vandals keep them short. Policy is 24 hours only I think.

AOL bandits

Mr treason, micheal etc - we deal with by repeatedly reverting everything they write. If they are on a rampage and you can't cope, then a very short range block might be necessary. Say 1 hour-just to give you a change to get over the crises. Other than that all we can do is keep reverting them. Eventually dial up will peter out as everyone goes over to braodband, and we won't have this problem. theresa knott 22:38, 21 Jul 2004 (UTC)

English and Nazi city names

Gdansk, Elblag and Torun are NOT English names. The English names are the same as the German names, and they are NOT Nazi names. RickK 23:39, Jul 21, 2004 (UTC)

Please see for example www.gdansk.pl , www.elblag.pl and www.torun.pl to see that the cities's authorities use these names (Gdańsk, Elbląg, Toruń) in their ENGLISH language subpages, so this means that they think they are the English names of the cities. In all English language publications I have seen these names are used. The German names are rarely mentioned, but always as German names (nothing more). The German people did much hurm to the Polish people during WWII. Since that time the German names are considered to be extremly offensive (like painting the Nazi swastikas on Jewish graves. Please be informed and try to understand. Thank you. PolishPoliticians 23:47, 21 Jul 2004 (UTC)
