Jim and Jtdirl were supporting you on the mailing list. I think you may have been misinterpreting what they were saying. Anyhow, I also think the suggestions you have made to others are helpful and that you should continue in doing that. It is certainly not acceptable to create "illiterate, meaningless articles" as you wrote on your user page. Angela 00:51, 8 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Im glad to see youve started making appeals to Wikilove -- I hope it continues to grow. Later. --戴&#30505sv 04:53, Sep 11, 2003 (UTC)

There actually is a reason I redirected the Chamber of Secrets and The Chamber of Secrets pages to the Hogwarts article. In the context where the links to this article are found, it is a referense to the Chamber of Secrets, not Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. You'll be happy to know a won't write another article for the Wikipedia as long as you keep meddling with my work. Don't try to contact me, because I have quit!

Thanks for the assistance the other night on the Faulkner copyvio's. I'm sorry you ended up getting questioned about it when you were just jumping in to help me get it done. Thanks again.Ark30inf 00:45, 12 Sep 2003 (UTC)

I'm not sure if the comment on Ark30inf's page was related to what I said earlier today on the Thomas Sutpen page, but I just wanted to say that my comment on your use of your sysop authority should have been taken as a compliment, not as a criticism. I think you are a very capable sysop and would not like to see you pushed out of that role because of a few criticisms. When I said it was annoying, I meant the situation, not you. Sorry for any confusion. Angela 01:13, Sep 12, 2003 (UTC)

You can't please all of the people all of the time. A lot of people here seem willing only to criticise others and when they see someone being criticised they all jump on the bandwagon and attack that one person. I'm not saying this is what has happened here necessarily, but it does happen. Try not to let it worry you too much. Angela 01:25, Sep 12, 2003 (UTC)

> User:Algis continues to vandalize the List of themed timelines page. RickK 03:31, 10 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Returned from wikipedia:problem users - the page recommends that you "First discuss the issues with the user in question" before listing users. Also, please distinguish between newbie edits by someone getting to grips with our style guidelines and wiki markup, from vandalism. Thank you. Martin 01:16, 14 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Issue was already raised w/ user on 9 August at User talk:Algis. He continued to experiment with that page, but later emailed me saying he was not familiar with the system and was sorry. He hasn't been around since so I don't think this should be our concern anymore. --Jiang 01:19, 14 Sep 2003 (UTC)
You're quite right Jiang: the demon drink has rendered me blind, groping my way forwards in a land of light. Martin 02:20, 14 Sep 2003 (UTC)

RickK

  • Rick requested de-adminship on wikiEN-l: "Please take my sysop powers away. I won't be needing them." I think Rick has made a wise decision here, and I'd like to give him my support. Martin 18:30, 8 Sep 2003 (UTC)
    • I do not support this and I think his reasons for requesting it are misfounded. I think he plays he a valuable role in guarding against vandals (the recent Heine episode for example) for which he needs his sysop 'powers'. Angela 18:37, 8 Sep 2003 (UTC)
    • the reasons for asking were bad. Now RickK, if you could use your sysop powers just for unblocking, undeleting and unprotecting for awhile if you feel like some are thinking you too bold. Just be bold in doing the opposite :-)
    • thinking about it...I think I blocked my ip the other day...I think I forgot to unblock it...hum...distracted I am...
      • done. Much better :-) It was clear abuse against myselfAnthère
    • While I respect your right to chose to relinquish your role here, I've yet to see a good reason for it -- you seem to be complaining about rough treatment. Excuse me, but its only typewritten words here. Your request seems either like an overstating of the complaints against you--as if they questioned your character, or just plain reverse-psychology to make us feel sympathy for you. Whatever it is, I'm not into playing games -- I myself have only moderately used my sysop abilities, and in fact rejected my first nomination because I preferred to quibble rather than be lumped with any 'responsibility.' You should not feel like youre adminship is being threatened by simply being challenged. We have honest disagreements here -- you dont seem incapable of handling disagreement. My only beef with you was that some things you do be done more openly. -戴&#30505sv 07:48, Sep 11, 2003 (UTC)
      • Agreed. He needs to learn how to control himself. We can't be expected to do it for him. --Jiang 07:23, 13 Sep 2003 (UTC)
        • Cimon Avaro on a pogo-stick: I don't think his sysop rights need be removed, at least on the basis of a few words written hastily. He can always do as he said some months ago, as he accepted the rights:
Acceptance: OK, I guess I can live with it. I can always just not do the admin thing if it gets to be too oppressive, right? Thank you, everybody. RickK, July 2003
If RickK no longer desires de-adminship, then I'm happy to withdraw my support for his former request. If that makes sense... :) Martin 02:04, 14 Sep 2003 (UTC)
  • Request was soundly denied. Martin removed his vote. --contents removed to here. Be well--and again, sorry for the hurt toes. -戴&#30505sv 02:43, Sep 14, 2003 (UTC)

Thanks Rick. That was as tricky a bit of writing as I'd care to tackle. I'm still not convinced that I've done justice to the complexities of it all - apart from anything else, there seems to be some fairly convoluted perversion of the definition of species going on - all in a good cause, no doubt, but it makes things curly just the same. It probably has some rough edges, but no matter: it's a wiki: someone will fix them. Cheers -- Tannin

What a bizarre place to leave me a message! How was I supposed to see that? I'm going to e-mail him by the way. Angela

I think considering the misunderstanding, his IP should be unblocked. Although as it's clearly a floating IP, it makes no difference anyway. His thoughts that it was a software problem may have been genuine but there's no way of telling. I don't see any other solution to the problem other than the one you took as he was not responding to the warnings you gave him. I explained this to him in the e-mail. Angela

In case you didn't notice - more messages in strange places! Although his one to me in a sensible place. Not quite sure what to make of it really but I thought I'd point it out. Angela 06:14, Sep 15, 2003 (UTC)

That's because I'm sick of all the nonsense on my talk page so I cleared it up to leave only the nice comments that have been made to me. You will find his reply at User_talk:Angela/Archive1#Robert_Taylor. Angela 01:02, Sep 16, 2003 (UTC)

I agree that "gay" is stupid to mention in articles, but there is a note at the "List of gay people" that says that you have to put that in the article or the person will be taken off the list of gay people. Which seems even stupider to me! I'm happy with or without! -- Outerlimits

Tha's an untenable notion, and one I wouldn't be happy with. RickK 02:55, 18 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Rick, thanks for the compliment about Susan Haack. :) As long as we're trading praise, I should tell you I've noticed how productively active you've been recently, and it's a real inspiration to me to contribute more often. Thanks again -- Jwrosenzweig 03:52, 18 Sep 2003 (UTC)

FYI, Savasas wrote the article on Robert Bond, according to his talk page. Jwrosenzweig 04:39, 18 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Look, I was on the verge of just deleting the thing, but thought better of it and listed it on VfD. Have you read the article? You might find why I put it here. There is no point to to the Wikipedia:Pages needing attention page, as nothing gets resolved there. RickK 05:07, 18 Sep 2003 (UTC)

My comment was intended as information, not criticism. (Actually, as User:MyRedDice pointed out to me, articles with NPOV problems should just get a NPOV dispute header.) I did glance at the article briefy, but really, I took your assessment of its copyright and NPOV status at face value because you are a trusted contributor. -- Cyan

Just thought I'd let you know that you may not get a reply at User talk:Robert Taylor as he has requested deletion of the page. Angela 22:19, Sep 18, 2003 (UTC)

re: "he wasn't the original author, I was" at VfD - isn't that just because you pasted the text in from what he was adding at the original Robert Taylor page? I would really really like this to be deleted just to put an end to the matter. I've got over 4000 words in e-mails discussing the issue with him and this is the only way to solve it. Do you really object to the article being deleted? I would be very grateful if you could reconsider your objection. Angela

Is that a no then? He's no longer on List of composers and he basically created the original content [1] even if you are listed in the page history as the main author. Angela 02:15, Sep 19, 2003 (UTC)
